Parent domain has Windows Server 2003 server std edition. Child domain 1 has Windows Server 2003 std Child domain 2 has Windows Server 2003 std 64 bit Not sure if this is a problem with the cal's, or the server(s). We have a license server sitting in a parent domain, and two different child domains with terminal servers. The temporary licenses were handed out, but after adding the cals over a month ago, they are still not being distributed. I can see the Windows Server 2003 TS per user cal's from the console. When opening the licensing console from one of the child servers, the server is discovered, but the activation status is unknown. Any help wo…

I basically am planning on having 25 thin clients connect to a Terminal Server. What components would I need and what licenses will I need to purchase. Thanks!

Windows 2003 SP2 Terimal Services console connection DCOM error
by Guest Jay Scovill- 2 replies
I'm having a problem with Windows 2003 SP2 Terminal Services and COM Plus. We have an application that launches a COM Plus component when it is run. The application is the client portion of a client/server product. Both the client and the server are running on the Terminal Server. So all interaction between the two should be local with no involvement of the network. When a non-administrative user logged on though a regular RDP session and tries to launch the application it fails and the following error is logged in the event viewer: Event Type: Error Event Source: DCOM Event Category: None Event ID: 10016 Date: 10…

TS Licensing for four sessions...
by Guest Fuel451- 4 replies
I currently have four XP users using RDC from a remote location to connect to four local XP clients to run some Access queries that would put an enormouse strain on our connection to them. I'd like to setup a Win 2k3 server for them to all connect simultaneously via TS to run the queries/reports. I've read that I'll need a TS license server to manage the licenses. Is this correct, even for only four simulaneous sessions? We already have an EA with MS, but I'm not sure if TS CALs are included. Could someone confirm this, and offer some suggestions or recommendations?

Excel 2003 rdp screen resolution
by Guest striep- 0 replies

Hi Group, we have computres working under Windows XP with dual sreen setup at a resolution of 2560x1024. Creating a button or label in Excel 2003 looks OK. But when connecting to that computer via mstsc (RDP 6) with same resolution the font on the button or label get messed up. It changes to a fairly large font with a negativ letterspacing and is so unreadable. Same thiing happens when connecting to a TS with that resolution or even with a dualscreen setup at 2048x768. Anyone seen this before? The computers are fully patched and use rdp 6. Regards Stefan

terminal server sessions locking
by Guest Brandon Hegh- 3 replies

Hi, Have a customer with two servers, one a terminal server running MS windows 2003 server and one small business server running MS SBS 2003. Terminal Server has SP2 loaded The problem is at least once a day one of the sessions starts to lock up. The users tell me they can tell when it's going to happen by the fact the cursor changes to a black square. Sometime they can log off their session and when they log back on it's all good. Other time the session need to be reset from the management console. The only errors in the log are "Application Hang" errors, but these don't really correspond to the times the session hangs and also don't necessarily…

Hello, I am using Remote Desktops to connect to some of our servers. When i choose to log one off to log in again either under a new user or because of a change of password it often reboots the Server. I am certain that I have not chosen to Shut Down and this has now happened on a number of occasions. I was wondering if this was a known issue. If you need any more information just ask. Thanks Carl

moving desktop icons
by Guest pdch@shaw.ca- 4 replies
Just built TS2k3 with assistance from a friend and Vera's excellent website. All I need to do now is fine tune the program icons on the desktop. I need to move some of the icons to a folder on the desktop to 'hide' them so users can differentiate between older programs and newer programs (older tax programs with 'hidden' icons). I can create the folder on the desktop, and copy the icons into the folder (instead of moving ... as a test), but when the users try to open the folder with the copied icons, they get a message saying that current policies prevent this operation. I need to modify permissions on the desktop folder so that users can access the copied ico…

problems after upgrade to Server 2003 SP2
by Guest Tom- 2 replies

I’m experiencing problems after upgrade to Server 2003 SP2. The issues seem to be related to each other but I’m not sure. The users are unable to log off. Also, the TS profiles that are located on a different server are getting an additional TS profile. For example, user jsmith has two profiles now, jsmith and jsmith.domain.com. Prior to SP2 upgrade the users only had on profile, example jsmith. Have anyone had similar problems after the upgrade?

Terminal Server MSDN Licensing
by Guest pbochman- 1 reply

I have a MSDN subscription Win 2003 Server with a terminal server installed. When trying to connect to it, I am getting a message stating that a licensing server cannot be found. I have no problem installing it, but part of the installation procedure is activating the license server and purchasing CALs. Do I really need to purchase CALs even if I have an active MSDN subscription?

Hello, I want to install Terminal Server on an exsiting MS Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition File, Print, database, & web server. What I want to do is install QuickBooks and have users access QB via Terminal Server. 1. Can I install TS on this server without it effecting any of the other rolls of the server? 2. If so, can I configure the same server to be a licensing server as well. 3. Should I purchase per device or per user licenses? I'm thinking per device. Thank you, -- RAJ

Maximum number of allowed connections.
by Guest yba02- 1 reply

Hi, Recently, we have commissionned TS on a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition to allow remote users to access local applications through Citrix. Both TS and Citrix are still in grace period. Everything seems smooth except for 1 particular user. In an attempt to resolve the issue, I changed TS licensing from per device to per user but it is still the same for that user. Regardless of the client, that user always faces the same problem. Whenever he wants to log on to the application, he gets back an error message saying "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections." The weirdest thing about this problem has two sides: …

hide drives for everyone except admins
by Guest Steve Paul- 2 replies

1) If I want to hide drives from users, I understand this can be done with group policy applied to the terminal servers. If I do that, is it possible for Admins to still access the drives somehow ? 2) I have tried using the Nodrives registry setting to hide drives on a user selected basis but there appear to be 2 registry keys needed to make this happen, one is under hkcu\...\currentversion...\policies\explorer (no space between current & version) *& the other is under hkcu\...\current version...\policies\explorer (space betwen current & version). the nospace key does not grant the user sufficient rights to add the registry key & so t…
