Add Administrators Group to Roaming Profiles
by Guest laramie.hartmann@gmail.com- 1 reply

I recently setup a group of terminal servers using roaming profiles and inadvertantly forgot to set the GPO to add the Administrators group to the user roaming profiles. I've corrected this so that new profiles have the proper security permissions, but I'm not sure how to correct the permissions on the profiles that were already created. I realize that I can go through one by one and take ownership then adjust the permissions then apply ownership back to the original user, but this will take ages with over 100 users. Does anyone know of a faster (scripted) way of doing this? Thanks, Laramie

Local modem speed in teminal server session
by Guest oxocube75- 1 reply

We are planning on publishing an application through terminal services. Our remote offices will no longer have a local install of this application but will still need to retain full functionality. The issue we are having right now is currently the users have the ability to send a fax from inside the application. We want them to still be able to send the fax from their local machine while the data is held in the terminal server session but when tested all the data is being sent through the terminal server session connection so is limited by the session bandwidth. Is there any way to get the local modem to send it's traffic outside of the terminal session which …

Questions about Terminal Services 2008
by Guest cmiller@servermotion.com- 1 reply

We are running the RC of Windows Server 2008 -- Longhorn. We want to use RemoteApp to push out individual applications to users. Two questions: 1) Currently, we have to be running the RC of SP1 for Vista or connect from a Longhorn server. Is it always going to be this way, or is the RDP 6.1 client going to come down XP and earlier versions? 2) How do we control which users see what applications? Currently, all I can find is the option to disable or enable a specific application as a whole. I want User A to see Application B, but not Application C. Where do I set these policies? -Chris

Non-admin users to connect to Remote Desktop
by Guest Ludovic Felten- 2 replies

Hi, I've created new user accounts (non administrative) and I want some of them to be able to access the Remote Desktop on my server. They need to connect to the console and I never need to have more than 1 user logged in at a time, so I don't see the need to use terminal services with licenses and stuff. The issue is that even if I make sure the new users are allowed local logon and logon through terminal services, I still get the error "" while opening a remote desktop console session. If I assign the user administrative rights, they can login with no problem... but that's not what I want. So my question is: does it really REQUIRE the users to ha…

We are experiencing a problem where our Terminal Services users do not get the traditional print window when printing. . .when they go to File / Print it immediately prints the document and doesn't show the print dialog window allowing them to choose the printer. It works for anyone in the Administrators group though, but not Domain Users. We are using Windows 2003 server with the users using Windows XP.

multiple disconnected sessions
by Guest Don Powell- 1 reply

I notice on my 2003 terminal server that a couple of my users have multiple disconnected sessions. How can they have more than one session, I thought that if they disconnected then reconnected it just restored their sessions to active rather than create a new one? More importantly, how can I change my settings so they don't have more than one disconnected session? Thanks

TS 2003 Licensing
by Guest Mel- 1 reply

Ok, so here's the deal... Purchased TS User CALs (2 ) back in June. There are two users who access via terminal services - myself and another. It seems that although we purchased TS User CALS (confirmed on the open license confirmation), the server was configured for device. The other guy initially logged in using his home computer and it received the license. His real computer (a laptop) received the temp license which has now expired and of course he cannot log in. According to the article below, all I need to do is to into TS Configuration and change it to per user. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822134/en-us The article seems to suggest th…

Printers not clearing out
by Guest Joe- 11 replies

Hi, We have a problem that when a user logs out from the terminal server the printers associated to their sessions don't delete. The only way we have discovered to remove the printer is to restart the printer spooler services on the TS. Any suggestions as to what is wrong or what can be done to fix? Thanks, Joe

I'm having an unusual issue with TS clients with locally-attached printers. Said printers show up in the TS session as they should, and are set as default for the user. When a test or other printjob is sent to the printer, it shows up in the queue, reports as printing, and disappears - all very normal. However, there's no output on the printer in question. The job apparently disappears into the ether. Has anyone else experienced this issue. TS is running on w2k3 server, and the clients are HP t5135s. thanks.

"Blank" Connection...
by Guest Stephen Russell- 4 replies

Hi All, Having a weird problem at the moment. Up until about a week ago I could connect in fine using RDP 6.0. Now, when trying to connect to a server (and workstations) at a remote site over a VPN it starts the connection into the server (or PC) but it won't bring up the login screen. It just stays on the Grey (or Blue) screen with the "connection bar" at the top in full screen mode. I can still RDP into the servers at this location. The only thing that has changed between it working and not is that our ISP reconfigured the ADSL router changing it to PPPoE/PPoA. This was done remotely by them and they said that was the only info they changed!!! It's w…

Thin Clients dumped off TS 2003
by Guest thatotherguy- 3 replies

We've got this problem with some of our thin clients getting bumped off the server with the message "Because of a protocol error, this seesion will be disconnected. Please try connecting again" after about 2 or 3 minutes of inactivity from the user, starting about a month ago. I thought it might have been packets being dropped, and after harassing our ISP, and going through hundreds and hundreds of traceroute logs, its not that. I have found a potential fix at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824683, but we don't have access to Platform Builder, so it's not much use to us, plus they all just started dropping off at the same time, which is the real pu…

Hi and Thanks for helping. We have a W2K3 Server that is accessed by to local PC's and 2 remote PC's Obviously at this point onlt 2 people at a time can be in. We are expanding and I am going to assign the server Terminal Server Role and add 5 CALS. I see that somewhere along installation a few years ago, I gave this server a role of Domain Controll which I see is directly connected to Active Directory. Do I need The Domain Controller Role. All we will be doing is accessing a main software application. NO email, or web hosting at this point. If I turn off Domain Controller to save memory, will the 2 users remote or local, still have normal acce…

Changed Win 2k3 server to domain controller and can't RDP in ....
by Guest Radioman- 3 replies

Hi, I appreciate this is a fairly newbie question, but I have made a win 2k3 server a domain controller, to run the inbuilt radius server. However, I can no longer rdp into the server - from its static ip 195.38.3X.XX I can access it from my local network from its static (local) ip 192.168.2.179 Via remote desktop If I do netstat -a, I see it is listening on all TCP ports you would expect (I have a mail server running and can connect to that) However it is also a game server running Half-Life and that is not accessible. When I look at the output of netstat -a, I can see that all TCP ports are noted as either listening or established, but every UDP p…

Local users connect to these servers over our LAN with HP thin clients ( windows CE based ) and with the microsoft terminal services client on windows 2000 workstations. terminal server sessions limited to 30
by Guest BW- 2 replies

Hi, We have a duel 2.8GHz Xeon w/ 4GB RAM running win2k3 sp2 and terminal services that staff connect to via RDP. We are seeing that after a few days all of a sudden a limit of 30 users starts. If there are 30 users on anyone who attempts to log on receives a profile cannot load error and the session closes. If we jump onto terminal services manager and logoff users so there is under 30, then people can log on again. Only happens after a few days of running and before it happens we can have anything up to 50 concurrent users working fine. Really confusing us. Has anyone seen this? The server is updated with latest patches and we saw this issue bo…
