Server 2008 TS Web Access Remote systems cannot connect from the Internet
by Guest Jon Osborn- 7 replies

Please forgive I am new to TS Web access on 2008. We have installed a test server and installed TS and IIS on it. We are looking to publish programs to TS Web Access, have a hole poked in the fire wall to allow Internet users to access our "site" and use their programs from home. I have TS Web access working great on the internal network but when the same laptop is at home and we connect to our TS Web Access server from outside the network we get an error that states "The Remote Computer could not be found". What could have done wrong? Do we need to open more ports for RDC? I was under the impression we just need port 80 & 443 open. Thanks…

I noticed SP2 is out that includes this fix but due to other reasons I can not apply SP2. thanks, Don "Vera Noest [MVP]" wrote: > You can disable audio redirection, but I'm not sure if that applies > to system beeps as well. > > Anyway, I run the hotfix on a number of servers, without any > problems. > But of course, that's no guarantee that it will behave identical on > yours. seeing drives on terminal
by Guest Phil Rushton- 7 replies
We have 2 networks both are simple WORKGROUPS. Both run Windows Server 2003. Both run Terminal services via RDP on Thin Clients or old PC's running Windows 2k SR4. The two networks are not connected. I need to see the CD and USB drives on the terminals so I've ticked the Drives box on the RDP. On the first network I can see the drives from each of the terminals in a terminal session but on the second network I can't see any of them on any session. The only thing that is different (as far as I can see) is that the second network has the TS CAL's activated and the first network does not yet have them activated, because I'm still building it. What ha…

I posted this over on the Windows XP side and did not get a reply so I am posting this on the Terminal Server side even though it is a desktop issue but I still need some help resolving this issue and the OS on the desktop is XP Pro SP2 and we are running a Windows 2003 server environment I have a user who is trying to rmeote into her work desktop and she is unable to do so. The error she gets is: "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator" Now I am the network admin and I have set up almost all of the company desktops f…

Need your advice on this.

Hi all, I am going to move to windows 2003 terminal server. Currently, we are using Citrix servers and at most we have only 6 users connected at the same time even though we have around 400 users. Can I just purchase 25 user CALs and it will supply our needs? I guess that windows 2003 terminal server can pool users concurrently as Citrix servers. Any advice on the license and other known issues. Also, I can just install licensing server on the windows 2003 terminal server. Thank you.

What is locking ntuser.dat
by Guest HDI- 7 replies

Hi, Sometimes this file is used (locked) by an another process so when you log on you will get a temporary profile. On each instance where a temporary profile has been used, there are four successive USERENV errors: 1508 "Windows was unable to load the registry..." 1502 "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile..." 1515 "Windows has backed up the user's profile...." 1511 "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile...." When I reboot the problem is solved but I hope there is another solution. Anyone? What is locking this file? When I see in open files under shared folders there is nothing. Can I look some…

The server failed to retrieve the SID of Session BRoker
by Guest Kristin L. Griffin- 7 replies

Hi Folks, I have a weird issue. Even through the session broker server says my terminal servers joined ok, the terminal server system logs say differently. I get this message: The server failed to retrieve the security identifier (SID) of the TS Session Broker server. Win32 error code: 0x534. All terminal services connections go to only one server - they are not dispersed. Here are some network details and things I have ruled out: This is a Win2k8 environment. I have a farm of terminal servers (obviously) This is a completely virtual server environment, using HyperV I am not having network, dhcp, dns issues. Everything is running fine in that…

Print job still spooling
by Guest crackie- 7 replies

Hi, I have one unit of HP Laserjet P1006 setup and connected to my PC USB port. Printing from my PC to the printer is all alright without any issue. Somehow, whenever I login to our application server via RDP (Win XP Pro - remote desktop) and to attempt any printing, the print job will be pending at the spooler for an indefinite amount of time. Eventually it will just stuck there and does not print at all. I had checked on both the server properties and printer properties in the remote desktop environment, the TS has correctly mapped and assigned the port to the printer. I wonder what is wrong here and what causes the print job is still spooling in T…

Lexmark X5270 on 2003 TS
by Guest Gregg Hill- 7 replies

Hello! I called Lexmark and asked if the X5270 had terminal server compatible drivers for Windows Server 2003. I got a tech who seemed confused when I mentioned terminal server, but he did find a 2003 driver. When pressed to tell me if it was TS-compatible, he hesitated, asked someone else, and then said it was compatible. Due to the nature of the conversation and the hesitancy in his voice, I decided to ask here for real-world experience. So, does anyone know if the drivers for the Lexmark X5270 are really compatible with TS 2003, or perhaps which printer map I can use safely? Some Google searches have said to try an HP LaserJet 4 driver, but this …

Trust requirements for TS License Server in a different domain
by Guest burgessb- 7 replies

I've located most of the setup information to have terminal servers in domain forest B to acquire their TS device CALs from a License Server in domain forest A (via registry settings, a hotfix, and forest trust). My question is what is the minimum forest trust required to enable this? I would rather not have the domain B's 'name' appear as an option on the logon screen on Domain A's PCs. one-way, incoming, forest trust for one side of the trust one-way, incoming, forest trust for both sides of the trust one-way, outgoing, forest trust for one side of the trust one-way, outgoing, forest trust for both sides of the trust two-way, forest trust for one sid…

Hello All i am trying to set up a system for my terminal server, that would copy a file from a specific location as the user logs in, and then starts that file as the only application the user is allowed to run. here is the situation... i have an access application that we are running on a terminal server using a thin client setup. currently all users use the same access frontend located in a specific folder. this works, but makes updating that frontend a pain. i have to kick everyone out to do it. this application frontend should be copied to thier user account into thier terminal service profile. however with the amount of users doing this manuall…

Strange printer Behaviour!!!
by Guest Sebastien- 7 replies

Good morning All I've got a 2003 Server which I updated to SP2 yesterday. I also cleared the printer spooler using cleanspl.exe as I was having problems with the printer queue. I've reinstalled the printer drivers, etc and printing from the server directly to the printers works fine. But now, when a client logs in via TS, their printers are not brough across. I've made sure the drivers are identical, etc but nothing. Nothing in the error logs either. I've also ensured that all ports are forwarded as per kb302361..... I'm about to tear my hair out now!!! Not sure what else to do for this customer Anyone ever experience this?

shadowing
by Guest seth- 7 replies

I know this might be a very simple question, but can a non-administrator have the ability to shadow another session? I have a user trying to share a session with another user on a terminal server and can't seem to shadow. She gets an error (I asked her to tell me what error it is) and was wondering if it was because she is not an admin on that system.

Permissions issues on a 2003 Terminal Server
by Guest Tim- 7 replies

I have a couple of applications that run fine on workstations and even on other Terminal servers, but regular domain users cannot run them properly on this one terminal server. One of the applications is Windows Messenger; as a domain admin, I can run Messenger on any machine that has it installed, and the domain user I will use as an example here can access Messenger from his desktop and from other Terminal servers, but from this one server, he is unable to run it. Is there a permissions trick I need to know when setting up Messenger or Live Communications on a Terminal server to make sure that all users are able to access the application? Thanks i…

Disconnected Sessions issue

Good morning! I have been a bit puzzled by this so I am finally posting a question. I am posting both here and in the SBS news group....hopefully the proper way! Situation: SBS2003 Standard with a separate member server running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. This machine was joined to the domain the "SBS2003 way". There are some 20 users who make use of the Terminal Server. Basic applications installed [Office 2003 and their CRM-client (SysPro)] and all are working fine. Terminal Server is locked down via GPO. Sessions are disconnected after one hour of idle time and disconnected sessions can be reestablished within one hour. Only one session at a…

Loopback processing
by Guest Phil- 7 replies

Hi I'm in the process of setting up loopback processing and would like to check a couple of things. I have set up the GPo "TS Computer" to Replace and applied it to the Ou in which the TS are members of and given the TS Users "read" and "apply group policy" and TS Admins "Deny Group policy" All my settings are in the computer configuration and i have disabled the user configuration. Now I want a seperate GPO for TS Users, called TSUsers do I still need to set Looback to replace here as well? I am assuming that I apply it to the same OU that the Terminal servers are in?

RDP / Terminal Services / Mandatory Profiles
by Guest Glenn- 7 replies

I have users that connect to a Citrix environment and use the Terminal Server tab on the AD User Properties to setup thier profile. Now a couple of these users need to connect to a Windows Server 2003 R2 (64bit) to run some processes using Remote Desktop (RDP). The problem is that thier profile for the Citrix servers get loaded as a mandatory profile on the server. I want them to get a local profile and ignore the other settings. I have looked at GP and Local Security settings without any success. There are a some settings under Computer>Admin>Profiles>Windows>Terminal Services>Profiles I tried but did not work. Thanks, -- Glenn…

I've recently started testing Terminal Services using Windows Server 2008 Beta 3, and I've noticed that using the command mstsc.exe /console does not, in fact, provide a console connection. Has this option been removed? Is there any way to obtain this functionality using Windows Server 2008? Thanks. -- Ross Chappell EPI Internet Direct http://www.epidirect.com

DOS Printing from Windows Server 2003 TS?
by Guest John Kotuby- 7 replies
Hi all, I need some help please. We have a customer who is still using and old DOS version of software that we suppy to them and still support (even though I am encouraging them to move to the Windows version). They have a number of users that work from home. Up until a little while ago they were using Win2000 terminal Services and had no trouble printing remotely from DOS. Our DOS program, much like MS DOS Edit, can print to ports LPT1 - LPTn. They were using LPT2 without problem on Win2000. Now their tech support consultant has called and asked me for help. I could not find anything except a Kixstart script. I am not familair with Kixstart but …

Slow Performance issue
by Guest David G. Hoch- 7 replies

I'm running Terminal Sevices on a Windows 2003 Standard server. Fairly powerful box (1xQuad-Core Proc; 4GB RAM; plenty of fast HD storage space available) Users are seeing poor performance at times, even when only one or two users are connected to the box. Some of the performance issues reported include: - Slow opening of data files (.PDF, .DOC, etc.) - Once opened, slow and/or choppy scrolling from page to page in documents - Choppy and broken up video streaming In order to fix the video streaming problem I've upgraded the server's built-in video card to a card that has 256MB of RAM onboard. It made a very small improvement, but not enough to make the…
