Printers not clearing out
by Guest Joe- 11 replies

Hi, We have a problem that when a user logs out from the terminal server the printers associated to their sessions don't delete. The only way we have discovered to remove the printer is to restart the printer spooler services on the TS. Any suggestions as to what is wrong or what can be done to fix? Thanks, Joe

How can i change the name of the autocreated printers???
by Guest r46792- 3 replies

We are using a program that crashes when you print if the printer names are to long. I think its 30 characters. How can we have the redirected printer names created with a shorter name. I read you can remove the session ID but I don't know how. the normal format is "printer name" (from %computer_name%) on session XX I'd like to have it just as "printer name"

I am running an MS Access ODBC app on Terminal Server under MS Windows 2003 R2. It connects to a SQL Server 2005 DB. The app runs fine from the console using the Access runtime engine, but fails when running from any user logging in to the Terminal Server. The failure occurs when attempting to access the SQL DB. Any ideas? TIA

Where are my Terminal Servers getting their licenses?
by Guest mleeser1@gmail.com- 4 replies

We have six 2003 SP1 terminal servers running the exact same config (installed from same image). When I run the TS licensing app on any of the servers it comes up looking for license server "dolphin" which is a server that has been shutdown and retired for about 5 months. In the TS configuration app it has server dolphin configured as the only license server. The question is, how are users still able to connect to these servers without any licensing problems? There are currently 20 - 50 users on each server and they have been working this way for 5 months without any issues. I want to get our licenses installed on a new server but I'm worried about breakin…

Client can't modify local Internet Options
by Guest azevon- 7 replies

Greetings All, I'm running a Windows 2003SP2 TS server with Citrix Meteframe 3.0. In the past, I have successfully added users (using computer management\local users & groups) and then added them into the group "Remote Desktop Users" Then I have successfully logged onto this server via a citrix client (or TS client), and modified that user"s Internet Option Security tab (my goal is to add my local UNC paths into trusted local intranet sites). Butr suddenly, when I add a new user onto the server (and give them the same rights as old users), when I log on as that user remotely, the icons in the IE Security tab are grayed out, with grayed locked k…

Terminal server settings...
by Guest merlin2049er- 6 replies

Hi, I got a few questions regarding TS and how to configure the following; I've configured each of our remote users using the RDP 6 client - it launches our custom datebase application when then login. Anyways, I've configured the group policies to - Keep-Alive the connection -Enabled (no one likes to login in if they are inactive for a while) - Automatic reconnection -Enabled (reconnect if they loose connectivity) - Restrict Terminal server users to a single remote session - Enabled That all works well, the issues I'm facing are people are shutting down the session (using the x in the yellow bar) but the application is still running. When they at…

I have a client that wants to give a non-admin the ability to remote control other users terminal sessions via the TS Manager. Any articles on how to setup a "Domain User" with such permission? -- - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)

Loopback processing
by Guest Phil- 7 replies

Hi I'm in the process of setting up loopback processing and would like to check a couple of things. I have set up the GPo "TS Computer" to Replace and applied it to the Ou in which the TS are members of and given the TS Users "read" and "apply group policy" and TS Admins "Deny Group policy" All my settings are in the computer configuration and i have disabled the user configuration. Now I want a seperate GPO for TS Users, called TSUsers do I still need to set Looback to replace here as well? I am assuming that I apply it to the same OU that the Terminal servers are in?

general questions on Remote Desktop (XP Pro)
by Guest ginahoy- 9 replies
I will soon upgrade from WinME to XP. I was reviewing list of differences between Home and Pro. One utility that caught my attention was Remote Desktop. When traveling, I sometimes wish I had access to a file on my home system. I have some general questions about Remote Desktop: 1) Let's say I'm using a computer at an Internet Cafe. Does that computer have to have special software or be running XP Pro? 2) Is it necessary to pay my ISP for a static IP? (e.g., how can I locate my computer via the Internet?) 3) Do I have to leave my system running, or can I use a LAN card with wake-on-lan feature? Thanks!

Hi, I have a very strange problem that am fnding diffcult to resolve or start to resolve. We have a Server2003R2 box with 1 app, our accounts program Sage Line 50. The problem i'm being faced with is , within the program, there is an option to design your own reports, (report designer) which generaly takes 15-20 secs to open. From my own PC as an example, 1 day it can be the timing above, other days it can takes 1m 40secs, and nothing has changed, or been amended. any help on where to start diagnosing this would be very grateful. Thanks Marc

Server 2008 TS Web Access Remote systems cannot connect from the Internet
by Guest Jon Osborn- 7 replies

Please forgive I am new to TS Web access on 2008. We have installed a test server and installed TS and IIS on it. We are looking to publish programs to TS Web Access, have a hole poked in the fire wall to allow Internet users to access our "site" and use their programs from home. I have TS Web access working great on the internal network but when the same laptop is at home and we connect to our TS Web Access server from outside the network we get an error that states "The Remote Computer could not be found". What could have done wrong? Do we need to open more ports for RDC? I was under the impression we just need port 80 & 443 open. Thanks…

Printing is inconsistent
by Guest DeNacho- 1 reply

i have a Win2K3 SP1 TS server. i cannot get printing to work consistently. i found several articles on the GP for Fallback driver and enabled that on the server. everyone can see their local printers, but not everyone can print to them. for example, my home printer shows up fine, but when i try to print from Notepad, for example, it just spews out blank pages. in another vendor-specific app, it's garbage. is this just a simple driver issue? i'm thinking it is, but we don't really have the means to install every driver for every printer that might be out in our user community. i thought the Fallback driver was supposed to take care of that. any thoughts?

Windows 2008 Network Level Authentication
by Guest Doug Murphy- 2 replies

Ok, I have read all the threads about CredSSP and XP clients, and have even tested the change sucessfully. My issue is a little broader, however: I have 4,000+ users, with a mix of XP and Vista (probably) that need to access , consistently, a 4 server farm that consists of 2 physical servers and 2 VMs under Hyper-V (these are on another server). All 4 are Windows Server 2008. This is working just fine using a CoyotePoint Equalizer as a hardware load balancer. However, these servers are in a Windows 2003 domain, and we have no plans to change that in the near future. I have no control over the bulk of the remote users, as they are home systems or belo…

Re: TS admin mode

Re: TS admin mode Vera, I really need your help. I have the Teminal Server running on Remote Administration Mode. Is buying one CAL only one way to switch this mode to the application mode? Does Application mode make any difference for the customer who uses the Terminal Server as a Application server at his network? The root of the problem is the VPN Cisco Client which is perfectly working at the console connection, but requires a few additional steps when running on the Terminal session... Any help would be highly appreciated... Nick nshmakov@screamsavers.com.au "Vera Noest [MVP]" wrote: > Remote admin mode gives you a maximum of 2 norma…

Terminal Server Licensing with multiple TS machines...

Good morning! Here is a somewhat convoluted sitatuion (and I am sure that I will add to that with my 'verbage'). This is for a client that I manage but only recently came on-board as the "guy" for this client. Previous "guy" is no longer with the company and the documentation is, er, lacking....let's just keep it at that. Okay. Client has two locations: the main corporate office and the co-location space. There are three servers in each location. Corporate office: SBS2003, WIN2003 member server (running TS and Citrix - computer name is CITRIX2003 for purposes of this post) and another member server.... Co-Load: Windows 2003 Server (DC), Win…

Termianl Server Implementation Question
by Guest Chris- 5 replies

Good Day Community, I'm going to outline a scenario I have, and just want get some feedback on what would be the best method to implement it. Scenario Server: Windows 2003 SBS Standard (DC) Server: Windows 2003 Standard R2 - Terminal Server Goal: I need to implement the terminal server for our remote sales staff. We recently did a big push on our accounting software - which requires the workstations to have amounts of RAM and atleast 2.0ghz. Most of remote sales agents have laptops that do not qualify for the upgrade. Instead of replacing 5 laptops, we purchased the hardware to make a terminal server (Dual Quad Core, 4gigs RAM etc). This will allo…
