I have a Windows 2003 R2 Standard Edition Terminal Server (SP2) which is not allowing users to browse most any sites.IE Enhanced Security was uninstalled during the original set up about 11 months ago. Everything worked fine until about 2 weeks ago, then users started getting the Enhanced Internet Security warning. I verified that it did not show installed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933991 Then downloaded Managing Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d41b036c-e2e1-4960-99bb-9757f7e9e31b&DisplayLang=en Checked the referenced registry keys for normal users & admins - shows no…

Terminal Session not terminating when forced app is closed
by Guest William- 1 reply
Hey guys, I have an application being forced to run in a full screen TS session when users log on (Dynamics) by means of the .rdp file. When users close the application the terminal session is not ending as one would expect it should. Idealy we want the terminal session to end when the application is closed because there is obviously no way to log off with the session being locked down due to the mandatory application. Is there anything I can check or change to ensure the session is ended when the application is closed? TIA

OS requirements for NLB STD or ENT?
by Guest Marc C- 2 replies

Hello, It appears that I can run Network Load Balancing in Server 2003 Std edition. I would like to utilize this feature between (2) 2003 Terminal Servers. I ask because I have heard (but cannot verify) that the enterprise edition is required to utilize 2003 terminal server. The articles I am looking at do not mention this requirement but I think that in windows 2000, the ent ed was required for both Clustering and NLB

I'm a user on a mixed client network. I can connect to our Terminal Server from a XP client, without any problem. When I try to connect using Vista from the same physical switch, it doesn't find the server. Is there a new setting or feature in the Vista version of RDP that the firewalls or the server software itself that would cause this problem? Thanks

Software Licensing

If I have 10 remote users all running Windows 2000 Pro, a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Network Load-Balanced (NLB) farm of two nodes (Server A and Server B), and MS Office 2003 installed on each server node, what do I need to consider for licensing? I had called Microsoft 2 years ago on this, and here is what I understand: 1) Windows Server CAL's - ten for Server A and ten for Server B 2) Terminal Server CAL's - ten for Server A and ten for Server B 3) Microsoft Office 2003 single license - one for Server A and one for Server B An associate has told me that one would instead require ten MS Office licenses for each server node (20 total) in addit…

I am trying to run Quickbooks on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. Quickbooks wants me to change the security level for "Internet" to Medium. The system will not let me do this. How can I change this security level. As an alternative, how can I stop Quickbooks from warning me about this every time I start a session? Thanks, -- Mike Schumann

Terminal Server Licensing Service in SBS2003 environment
by Guest Cary W. Shultz- 6 replies

Good afternoon! I have not ever done what we are going to do on Thursday so I want to make sure that I have my ducks in a row. We inherited this environment recently..... SBS2003 environment: single server, multiple physical locations. The SBS2003 Server is the only server in that forest. The previous consultant placed a TS (on a Domain Controller...eeh gads!) in another forest and created the identical user accounts on that TS box as exist in the SBS2003 domain. Well, we are going to wipe that TS Server, install WIN2003 SP2, join it to the SBS2003 Domain as a member server, install TS in application mode and then install the applications. M…

Remote Desktop to Terminal Sevices
by Guest John H- 2 replies

I've seen this question asked already, and I'm hoping for some clarification. We have multiple developers who need access to a server on which we already have installed several apps (SQL Server, PerformancePoint Server, Office) and have a few hundred man-hours invested in building out and configuring these products. We are at a point where we need more than 2 accessing at the same time. Is there a way to avoid having to reinstall existing apps if we install TS? All the developers are currently logging in through RDP as Administrator -- does this change anything?

Terminal server profile for specific server?
by Guest James- 1 reply
Hi, I have a terminal server which is used by users from another domain. Those users already have terminal server profiles for use with other terminal servers and I can't control user policy on that domain. When these users log into my terminal server I don't want their terminal server profile or roaming profile to be used, and if I can have only a single application open that would be even better - I take it I can do that within ..rdp file, but that doesnt stop their profile from loading. Is there a way to force a mandatory profile for when they log into this specific server without effecting their existing terminal services profile used on other …

Using old Server 2000 as terminal server with SBS 2003
by Guest OregonJohn- 4 replies

Thanks to Meinolf Weber for the answer about removing SBS 2003...so I can't do that. I'm so frustrated with Terminal Services. I know, I read all about why it shouldn't be part of SBS2003, but it costs so much to implement this way...2 servers, 2 server OSs, 2 sets of CALS, and then the CALS for the terminal services...gads! Anyway, so I have the old SBS2000. Can I use that? I'm only trying to run a single specialty software package (Abacus for attorneys) remotely, so I don't need full desktops. You know, it is so amazing to me how people out there are willing to help. I am so very appreciative. Thank you all for taking the time to read these questio…

Auto login on a per-user basis
by Guest cybershoe@gmail.com- 1 reply
I don't know if this is even possible, but I thought I'd ask... We are running a TS environment. Some of the clients access only a shop floor program, which handles user authentication at the application level. We want to let these thin clients auto-logon; however, we do not want to allow regular users that ability (we don't want them to be able to save their password in the RDP client). Is there any policy or setting that is similar to "Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Encryption and Security \Always prompt client for password upon connection", but can be applied on a per-user basis? Thanks, -- -Adam

Terminal Service provided an invalid license
by Guest Dave- 4 replies

We have run into a problem with Terminal Services during our testing of our disaster recovery plan. We are using a server imaging product Acronis True Image Server to image our 2003DC, 2000 Terminal Server (Citrix XPe) and a 2000DC. We then have restored those images to our disaster center recovery servers. All appeared fine until we tried to login to the Terminal server via a thin client. We are unable to connect and the Terminal server event log shows error 1003 "terminal services provided an invalid license". I would think that since the imaging is a block by block image of the production server that all data including licenses would be transfered to th…

Emailing attachments from Sharepoint Folders
by Guest Clarence- 3 replies

Forgive me for cross posting, but I wasn't sure which group was appropiate for this inquiry. I've a TS that is a member server in a SBS 2k3 network. I've followed the instructions in "Locking Down Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Sessions" to minimize the risks/mishaps that users can cause. However, what I found is that there is no way for users to connect to the document folders in SharePoint to be able to email attachments. I would like them to be able to do this via OL2003. However, when selecting 'Insert > File', there is only 'My Documents' to select from. I'd appreciate any assistance in finding a workaround to be able to accomplish …

We are running Windows TS 2003. We have roaming profiles and save a copy of local profile on the Terminal server. Some user’s local profile is getting too large because of the MS Outlook archive file. I can manually turn this off in Outlook, but it seems to get switched back. Any suggestions? Thanks

RDP Vista

When I try to log into 2003 x64 terminal services with windows vista business the RDP session just dies. I see applying settings, then I get the Vista error screen indicating "Remote desktop connection has stopped working." The Vista event log contains EventName = APPCRASH, mstsc.exe, 6.0.6000.16386 etc. The windows server does not contain any logged entries. Is there a fix for this?
