TS Printing
by Guest Mark R.- 2 replies

I have an HP 1320 with the PCL 6 driver on a workstation that prints fine locally. The workstation connects to a 2003 R2 server x64 that has the x64 and x86 drivers. When I connect to the TS server, it will not redirect the printer. The printer is installed locally via USB on a Win 2K Pro station. I tried installing the 1320 on the TS server locally on the LPT1 port but it still didn't work. I was able to use an active TS port with the 1320 as long as the user with the active port remained logged in. ONce they disconnected, it didn't work anymore. Any thoughts? Also, I have an HP P2015 that connects and redirects fine, but when it prints via TS, the printo…

Getting second server to see licenser server
by Guest Jerry Flatto- 8 replies

We have two virtual servers running VMWare on our university network. These servers are only available internally for academic use and are both addressable with internal separate IP addresses (XXX.XXX.XXX.205 and XXX.XXX.XX.206). They are both running Windows 2003 server while our university is Linux based. The first vserver has terminal services license server running on it as well as SQL 2005 and Dynamics GP 9.0. The second vserver is configured for Active Directory so we can install CRM 3.0 on it. How do we set up the terminal services on the second vserver (.206) so that it can see the license server of the first vserver (.205)? Thanks for any assis…

Where is the Map Root checkbox for Terminal Server Home Directory?
by Guest Kevin Hurni- 3 replies

In NT 4.0 Terminal Server, you had the ability to check the box: Map Root in the Terminal Server Home Directory portion of User Manager. But it seems that in Windows 2000/2003 this option is removed? I know that the attribute is still there, because our previous users still work properly, but newly created ones do not. What attribute in AD corresponds to the "map root" checkbox?

Export TSADMIN Data
by Guest John D.- 5 replies

I need to capture some network data, and to make it easier to read the capture I need to know the following: User Name MAC Address of the Thin Client Logon Time of User IP Address of Thin Client All of this information is available in TSADMIN. I would like to know if there’s a way to export this information into a text file so that I can use it. Ideally it would be very useful to get all the data at once, all the users and their associated data, rather than one user at a time, or retyping the information. Thanks, John D.

Why Install TS License Server on seperate machine?
by Guest Ryan- 1 reply
I have the need to install a TS License Server to issue TS client licenses to a Windows 2000 TS. I've read in a few articles that the License Server should be installed on a seperate Windows 2000 Server. Why is it not good practice to install the License Server on the TS itself? What is the advantage of installing the License Server on a seperate machine? I'm going to need to issue TS Licenses for no more that 30 users. -- Ryan Network Admin

Terminal Server lockups
by Guest Ray234- 4 replies

We are running Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services. We are getting random lockups where the taskbar is missing on the server, and the only way to get it back is to reboot. Also, users will get performance issues including lockups and slow performance. Sometimes their taskbar is missing. When this happens, either the backup will fail and/or the Symantec Anti-Virus will stop getting the definition updates. Rebooting will fix both. We have ran multiple virus and spyware scans and checked startup items with Hijack This. I have removed and re-installed Symantec and the backup client. I have updated Windows to SP2, updated several device drivers, but c…

Explore crashing due to Java on TS
by Guest Jacob Hornbech- 2 replies

Hello kind sir's. I'm having a problem on my companys Win2k3 Ent. Server. I've locked down the users pretty hard of safety reasons, which works pretty well. Now however, some of the users need to enter a site which needs a certificate. This is all fine and dandy, I put the respective site in trusted sites, and opend the certificate with the user. When the user then enters the site IE crashes, some times with an error or none at all. I've been using some time on this, and found out that when the user initiate "Sun Java Console" under "Tools" in IE, it crashes aswell. I've tried to reinstall Java, to no avail. Is there anyone here that have experience…

Hello there... This issue is occuring on Server 03. As I described in the subject, there's two Terminal Server CAL 2003 5-license paks we installed, 5 are part of the Open License and 5 are a Retail pak. They're installed and Activated, but for some reason it doesn't use any of them. It will not allow more than 5 users to connect... I tried to do a phone activation with the Retail pak to see if doing that and "reinstalling" it will kick it in. Yet it does not, and now it shows 15 total CALs... 10 retail, 5 open :) I'm completely confused as to why this is occuring. When it first happened the machine was SP1. It was updated to SP2 but that didn't d…

Hallo, using Windows Server 2003 SP2 german (new stand-alone installation, standard configuration) only with Terminal Services Licensing Server enabled, the TermServLicensing service starting lserver.exe creates a new private key (TlsContainerXXXX) every time in Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18. How can I avoid this? Thank you in advance, Markus

User specific file association

Hello. I'm working with a problem that I hope that some of you can help me with. We have a Windows Server 2k3 Enterprise, which functions as a Terminal Server, about 200 users. The thing is, that some of these users need Microsoft Office, others don't. The ones who need M$ Office, need to pay the license fees to M$, while the one who use Open Office get it for free. The question is, how do I limit some users to only use M$ Office, and hence restrict others from using it, on the same server? I've thought about changing the registry in HKCU, but hesitate to do so due to the complications in this approach. Do you guys have some considerations or thought…

Only one of 2 load balanced servers allows clients to obtain a lic

Okay, I have a bit of a weird situation here. I recently rebuilt my 2-Server TS NLB Cluster becuase I wanted to re-build the RAID configurations. All went fine, NLB Cluster is up, along with Session Directory, and both servers can see the licence server. So far so good. I also purchased 15 additional CALs to ensure that I didn't run out of licences - I knew I was sailing close to the wind. So now I have 4 spare licences from the original CAL pack and another 15, none of which have been issued yet. So, 19 spare licences. The Licensing Server is in per device mode, the CALs are all per device CALs and so are the Terminal Servers (believe me - I've check…

Remote Client Printer not showing up when connected to TS
by Guest dean.carrefour- 3 replies

We migrated to a new network and terminal server recently. I have one user who worked fine before, but now when she connects, her local printer doesn't show up. It says 'no printer detected, would you like to add one?' when she tries to print. Of course it won't let her add one. The 'local' printer option is grayed out. She is in a remote office. This is a brand new Windows 2003 Server running nothing but Terminal Services. We have several other users in other remote sites working just fine on this same server. I can login as her from here, where the server is located, and print just fine on my printer. I have also tried this from multiple machine…

Hi, I have a Windows 2000 terminal server that is part of a domain where the TS license server is a Windows 2003 server. Windows XP clients are being refused connections to the 2000 server because of "an error in the licensing protocol". I have made the registry entry for the license server on the Windows 2000 server but error 1004 still appears in the event log. The XP clients should still be able to connect to the 2000 server without a purchased CAL should they not? TIA

I have a Win2000 TS licensing server and 2 Win2000 TS running in AppMode. I have about 40 users, Win XP and Intermec devices using the TS. When I try to connect with some new clients I get a 1004 error. All the "old" clients are working fine, but I cannot connect with any of the new clients. The licensing server have "lost" all my TS, I can just see the licensing server it self. When I am trying to connect to one of my TS from the licensing server, I got this message : Windows cannot connect to a licensing server. I have tried to follow the Guidelines from Q239107, but it still dos´nt work. It seems that I have got a system where it is´nt possible to …

TS User Profile Folders Not Being Created
by Guest S Sainsbury- 12 replies

I have a windows 2003 SP1 NAS Server. A TSProfile$ share was setup some months ago and permissions were set as per microsofts best practice. This has been working fine until today. Now when I create a new user and set the profile path, no folder is being created within the TSProfile$ share. I have gone over the permissions again and again but can see no issue. The users home drive is located on the same physical volume on a share called Home$ which has identical NTFS & SMB permissions and that works without issue. I have compared both shares again and again and see no differenace between the two. It only appears to be TSProfile that is affec…

Hello everybody, I recently setup a windows 2003 R2 server with terminal services enabled. When i connect to the server with RDP, 2 mouse pointers are displayed : the first seems to follow the real mouse move and the second reflect the remote pointer position. The local console works perfectly. Does anyone has a idea to suppress one of the pointers ? Thanks

Roaming profile location being misinterpreted.
by Guest BMC- 0 replies
We set the location for users' roaming profile through terminal services through the GPO setting "Set path for TS Roaming Profiles". This expects the setting to be specified as \\Computername\Sharename. The explain text further details that a placeholder for the username (%username%) should not be added as this is appended automatically. With this setting set to the location we want, \\user\tsprofiles, this should therefore be interpreted not as the location at which all users' profiles should reside, i.e. user1's profile is at \\user\tsprofiles\user1 user2's profile is at \\user\tsprofiles\user2 Today however, when any user tries to log on, Windows tr…

Using RDP v6, connect to 2 different w2k3 servers, both domain controllers in the same domain. I am able to see my local drives as "drive_letter" on "local_computer_name" on one of the servers, but not the other. I have checked gpo settings, user profile environment settings, and RDP-TCP client settings, and they are all configured the same. Do you know what the problem could be.? Thanks

I am migrating an SBS 2000 server environment (created by a nut, but that is another story...) to a W2K3 Server environment - We are ALSO changing the DOMAIN - On the OLD DOMAIN the SBS 2000 Server (which WILL be removed) is ALSO the TC Lic. Server..... There is an old Citrix Server on a W2K Server which will remain in place.... Here is my issue - I need to move my 2000 TS CALS to a new licensing server - as the old one will be removed I Will be leaving the CITRIX server IN PLACE only modifying domain membership etc. - It is a W2K server Should I create a TS Lic. server on the CITRIX box and move the licenses there AFTER I switch domains....
