We have a large enviroment that has a few entities that have a tendency to bring up unauthorized terminal sevices and connect to our Enterprise Terminal Server license server. Is there a way to limit license requests from only particualar terminal servers or is there a way to setup a terminal server to only use a particular license server and not autodiscover Enterprise licenses when it runs out of licenses? Thanks Rob

Hi, we're a small company with 2 locations. Site 1: - DC and a TS - TS: Xeon 3Ghz - 1GB - 3x SATA 250GB RAID5 (HW) - Internet connection: 20Mb down / 512k up (cable) - Fortigate F50 firewall Site 2: - DC - Internet connection : 1Mb down / 1Mb up (SDSL) - Sonicwall TZ-170 firewall IPsec connection between site 1 & 2 Approx 4 users at site 2 conccurently logon to the TS in site 1 to use Office and a few custom applications. Users are complaining of 2 things mostly: - The response is slow (I think the server should do fine for 4 users, and RDP uses about 32-64kb / active connection so upload from site 1 should be fine too) - Browsi…

I've recently started testing Terminal Services using Windows Server 2008 Beta 3, and I've noticed that using the command mstsc.exe /console does not, in fact, provide a console connection. Has this option been removed? Is there any way to obtain this functionality using Windows Server 2008? Thanks. -- Ross Chappell EPI Internet Direct http://www.epidirect.com

Later I want to start the same session again (it is still there in "Terminal Services Manager" on the server), I logon and get a new session. I use the same name and password. Is there a way to get the same session again ? Sometimes it works, but also sometimes not. Thanks, Marty

Guys, We have locked most of the stuff users can do on the terminal server environment, i.e. disallowing right-cling on task bar. I have occasionally had users called because the application they run froze on them. Can I allow the user to right click the task manager and end their own process and not others? Tent

Client & Network Printer settings
by Guest Brett Sadler- 1 reply

Hello, Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction with the issues I'm having and that I explain this in an understandable manner. We have a TS server that we have for our Accounting (Dynamics 9) department only. Currently, we have it setup through client registry settings so that they have only their default printer connecting through to the RDP session. This works fine. However, it was constantly defaulting to the client printer, as opposed to being only just available. I realize this is by design. Since only one person has a local printer, under the RDP connection properties on the Client Settings tab, I turned off the "Use connec…

hi there, we are running a win2k3 sp1 terminal server with the usual apps on it - MS office, acrobat reader, etc. it is a dual cpu xeon with 4gb ram and we regularly have 40-45 users online concurrently. however today the server began to run *very* slow to the point of unuable even from admin console however the strange part was that the cpu and ram were being reported as hardly used (10-30% CPU and ~2gb ram free). a restart resolved issue but only for an hour or so. restarted again and now has been working better for about 2 hours, but every now and then it's like it freezes for 10-20 seconds then carries on ok. only thing i have done is install…

Hello. I have a issue where a Windows 2000 terminal server is displaying the Event ID: 1004 error "The terminal server cannot issue a client license" message in the event logs. A month ago the Terminal Server was also a backup domain controller but I had to demote it to a standard member server. Since then the error code 1004 comes up. We are using a new Windows 2003 domain controller that the Terminal server is in the same domain as. The Windows 2003 domain controller does not have terminal server licensing service running on it. Is my fix as simple as installing the windows 2003 term server licensing? I have no plans immediately on installing termina…

Anyone having problems installing Flash from Adobe on their 2003 Terminal Servers? I can download it, it shows that it's installed, but it doesn't work (IE 6) and using the ADD PROGRAMS method or just a install from the console doesn't change anything. Slow RDP from Vista to 2k3 SP2 R2 x64
by Guest Brian- 3 replies

I have a Windows Vista desktop. I RDP into many servers 2000, 2003 x32 and x64. I have one server 2003 SP2 R2 Enterprise Edition x64 build 3790.srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710, when I or anyone RDP's into this server from a Vista computer the session is very slow. The screen refreshes fine, but a mouse click takes several seconds to reatct. I've found that if I run a "netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled" command on my Vista box the RDP session works fine. RDP from XP is also fine. I don't know why this is the only server I'm having problems with. I have one other 2003 SP2 R2 Enterprise x64 server and its build number is 3790.srv…

We have 5 windows 2003 servers in a separate domain. 1 DC, 2 Clustered Servers and 2 Citrix servers. We have a domain account used for managing the clusters. This a/c has local admin rights on both cluster nodes. We noticed that someone had accidentally put this a/c in domain admin group. After removing this a/c from doamin admins group we are unable to connect to one server (node 2 of cluster). We don't even get logon screen when we RDP in the server. Pls note that, we have enforced security using GPOs. Using the GPO tool, I made sure that, all servers have lastest GPOs. I have tried the following, 1.rebooting the servers. 2. Re-registered with DNS 3…
