Hi all. I´am conected to a computer by rdp, this computer is doing video and audio streaming. The video streaming without audio available is working fine, but when I enable audio, both start works whit delay and freezes. I think that the problem is the audio rdp driver, is there any way to improve it?. Thanks in advance

New 2003 Installation with RDP Printing Problems
by Guest Mark Stoker- 7 replies

We have just installed a new 2003 R2 terminal server solution in one of our retail stores. We are using Wyse S30 terminal with HP P2014 printers attached via the USB connection. I am using the Windows 2003 driver. Most of the time the users can print fine but we have seen the following problems. i) If say the printer jams and the user has the intervene the print job seems the get 'stuck' in the print queue. Re-starting the print spooler service usally does the job getting it to print. ii) Sometimes when the users logs off the instance of the printer is not removed. Subsequetly when the user logs back in there are 2 instances of the printer and they…

RDP shows blue screen for 2 to 5 minutes before icons come up.

I have a Small Business Server 2003 and a Terminal server 2003 (two different boxes). This is a new customer so I do not know how long it has been happening. When we DRP into the Terminal Server box everything pops up great except between the login and when the icons pop up. The time it takes after you type in the password and when icons pop up is about 3 to 5 minutes. When we try to get out of it the time is about the same - forever. I have tried to reduce all processes to nothing, no sharing of hard drive, resolution to 16 bit, no printing, sound, nothing. Tried the command line trick and that did not work. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi evererybody, I have unusal problem with Terminal servers. It is a new clean instalation. There is four W2003R2 servers from wich one is DC, SQL and TS License server and other three servers are Terminal servers in app mode. All four server are in domain managed by DC on first server. Problem is this: Domain Remote desktop Users group can't logon to TS, the same problem is with administrator. In RDP-tcp configuration there is only local Remote desktop users group. I can't put in permisions of RDP-tcp Domain Remote desktop users. I baypased that all by creating new group called RDP USER and added new group in RDP-tcp permisions. Also changed Domain se…

Where are my TS Device CALs going?
by Guest Daniel Segel- 1 reply

We have 140 Per-Device CALs installed on our licensing server. At this point they have all been issued, but the TS Licensing Manager doesn't tell me who/what device each Device CAL has been issued to other than giving a simple name. The problem is that there are seemingly many licenses issued to devices I can't identify and there are several cases where there are multiple licenses issued to the same device (by name). For example, I have licenses issued to: jsmith jsmith jsmith default dafault LH-UAGS5F2WL7GZ 192.168.0.13 192.168.1.2 WBT00806439040D WBT0080643905C8 WI_JyeXK7iFyI9b1t Note that we do not use any 192.168.x.x IPs anywhere on our ne…

Users sessions get reset
by Guest Chip- 3 replies

Over the past week and in the past I've had it happen to me. A user can be in the middle of working on an e-mail or something of the sort, and the user get disconnected corection they get reset. Originally I thought it was the GPO doing this, but I'm now wondering if it is anything else since the GPO is not set to disconnect or log off an idle session. When the user that was working on an e-mail in outlook does relog back in, it is a completely new session, there is now sign of them ever being logged in before. I've had this happen to myself then logged in as Admin and did not see my session as disconnected in termianal services manager. It's almost like…

TS lockups
by Guest Tim Gowen- 3 replies

I'm seeing a lot of lock-ups with remote users on a particular W2K3 server. I've tried the KeepAlive registry fix, but it was already set to the recommended setting. Power management or screen savers don't seem to be the issue either. The screens of the remote session just go to the background colour, with no icons. They're still shown as connected in the Administrator, but they cannot be made to come alive. Tim

!!! Oracle Reports rwrbe60.exe on Windows 2003 R2 x64 !!!
by Guest Jerry Alan Braga- 3 replies

We are a Windows 2003 TS shop and we are testing a new dl380 g5 server running windows 2003 x64 R2. We have our own applications that are based on Oracle Forms / Reports 6i. They work fine on Windows 2003 x32 but on x64 the reports background engine that is used to run all reports that are launched from forms starts up fine but does nothing after. It does not connect to the database and the logging pane show nothing not even errors that are forced that do display when in x32 mode. I know that when the background engine starts it talks to windows printer drivers at the start in order to set the printing env. Could it be that it cannot talk to the x6…

TS Setup Questions

We currently have a Windows 2003 Server as our DC and 15 XP Clients connect to it to use our accounting system. We are opening another location where 10 XP clients need to access the same accounting system. Both locations have cable Internet access. We plan to do the following to accomplish this and then we have some questions with some of the steps: 1. Purchase an additional Windows 2003 Server Standard (like a Dell PE1900) to use as the TS. It will physically set next to the DC and login to the DC to run the accounting application like a workstation does. THe remotes will login to the TS to run the application. Q: In addition to the (10) TS CALs-Per Device …

I have added some new terminal servers to my Citrix Farm and I get the following msg in the event log. I already have an established terminal server licensing server that I have used for years. Event Type: Warning Event Source: TermService Event Category: None Event ID: 1009 Date: 9/26/2007 Time: 8:45:18 PM User: N/A The terminal server licensing grace period is about to expire on 9/20/2007 and the service has not registered with a license server with installed licenses. A terminal server license server is required for continuous operation. A terminal server can operate without a license server for 120 days after initial start up. Obviously,…

W2K3 Enterprise 32-bit RAM Allocation
by Guest cendrars- 1 reply

Hello, Customers are purchasing blades with 8GB of RAM and running W2K3 Enterprise Edition to run terminal services. I am seeing build sheets with the /PAE switch applied to these servers to support RAM beyond the 32-bit 4GB threshold. Is the /PAE switch indeed required for W2K3 Enterprise to address 8GB of RAM? As the /PAE switch reduces kernel memory as result of additional RAM addressing beyond the 4GB limit, this strikes me as a questionable move for TS. Does W2K3 Enterprise indeed require the /PAE switch to address 8GB of RAM? Is this reduction in kernel memory an issue for TS? I am recalling a white paper I read some time back referenc…

How to change Office 2007 settings for all users on Terminal Serve
by Guest PeterHS- 2 replies

L.s, I'm using Office 2007 on Terminal Server 2007 with 13 users. I'm looking for a way to change the settings for all the users. I found out how to make a MSP file with OCT and that this can be used for chancing settings after installation. But how do i run this file, and will it make changes for all users on the TS? A don't want to make the changes with GPO for Office 2007, because a want defaults, which can be changed by the users. And i'am to lazy to make the changes for each user/program/option by hand. Many thanks

TS has Office 2003, Workstation has 2007
by Guest A.C. Buehler- 2 replies

I have a number of laptops that have Office 2007. The TS is running Office 2003. When the laptops run in TS, all is fine; when they run independently all is fine, too. However, if I connect the laptops to the domain, the roaming profile supercedes the locally installed Office 2007, no correct icons appear for Office, and when the icons are opened, they report that the application has not been installed. Took me a few minutes to realize that the profile was looking for the 2003, and the laptop has 2007. Incidentally, when I take the laptops off the domain, the 2007 works on the laptops, and the TS connections still run 2003 fine. I would like to find a wa…

connections from outlook to exchange via terminal server get endless password prompt
by Guest jcasteel@gmail.com- 2 replies

I posted this in an exchange group and one of the MVP's suggested I post it here as well. I've recently added an exchange server to a small domain and have ran into some problem with connections from a terminal server in the organization. All lan users can connect fine and are having no issues with exchange. Connections from the terminal server all fail with an endless password loop. When I go into control panel / mail and try to add the account it will sometimes validate the username, but most of the time it just prompts endlessly for the un/pw. On the rare occasions that it does validate the username, once I open outlook it just loops for the password. …

Roaming Profile Directories are not deleted
by Guest waynea@tek.com- 2 replies

We've setup our terminal servers to delete the local copy of the user's profiles (see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274152/en-us) when they log off. Upon logoff, all the directories and files are deleted with the exception of: C:\documents and settings\username\application data\microsoft\internet explorer We've also noticed this happens only when the user has 2 or more quick launch icons in their quick launch bar (C:\documents and settings \username\application data\microsoft\internet explorer\quick launch). Has anyone else seen this? If so, did you find a fix? Thanks.

server requirement
by Guest pete0085- 11 replies

Brief question about server requirement for a single terminal server. There would be a max of 12 users accessing the server at one time. With disk space not being an issue, what would be a recommendation for memory for such a server? Could it be an another application server or does it have to be a deditcated server? Can someone briefly explain why accessing resources through a terminal server doesn't take up as much bandwidth and is faster then accessing it over a Wan link?

I recently applied the windows updates to my 2003 server running PS 4.5 after I applied the windows updates I have one application that will no longer run. I have tried contracting the vendor of the software but they tell me it's a problem with the updates that windows got. They also told me that they have one other Citrix customer that has the exact same problem. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated. I have used the Filemon/Regmon etc to see if there was anything getting denied permission etc but I still get the following error message. Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 9/25/2007 T…

The error msg that I get is The system cannot log you on due to the following error: The network address is invalid. I get the same error message from other clients now when accessing these 2 servers. However, I can access the other servers on the network w/o any problems. Any ideas ? TIA, RM.

Terminal Services Session Screen Saver possible to disable?
by Guest Version7- 3 replies

Our problem is we have a user based group policy that has the following settings, Password protect the screen saver Enabled Screen Saver Enabled Screen Saver timeout Enabled Number of seconds to wait to enable the Screen Saver Seconds: 900 This locks our users computers after 10 minutes. Since this is a user based policy this follows the user's when they log into the several terminal servers. This becomes very annoying for the users to have to unlock there TS session after 10 minutes when they just unlocked there computer. Is there a way to superseed the User based group policy and perm disable the Screen saver on the TS Servers? Or maybe th…

Hello. We have a dedicated Windows Server 2003 box and HP Thin Clients. I understand that the HP Thin Clients and the Windows server support local drive mapping (For CDROM drives, USB drives, etc), however we would like to take it one step further. We have a HP Read/Write CD/DVD USB drive to accommodate the HP Thin Clients. We can get the Thin Client to see the CD functionality of the USB device, however we are unable to get the O/S to recognize the "burning" side. Here's my question. The CDROM drive can with software for burning. I don't want to just install the software on the terminal server without some sort of confidence it is going to wo…

When I remote desktop into my Windows 2003 Server from Windows XP Pro, I enter my username and password into the local remote desktop dialog. The connection is established to the server. Screen goes black for a second like it's about to succeed, then bounces back out to the local username/password dialog. The only cure for this is to reboot the server. This doesn't happen often but it does seem to happen after a remote desktop connection over a poor/flaky/slow internet connection, like the server side remote desktop process gets confused by junk packets and never recovers. Is it possible to just restart "remote desktop service" without rebooting the …
