Prevent Power Users from rebooting terminal server
by Guest Brian- 6 replies

Windows 2003 TS. Has QuickBooks on it, which requires Power Users membership in order to function correctly (well, maybe not, but that is what Intuit claims, and it is likely easier to get an answer to my question here than get any info the actual rights required from Intuit - it's much easier for them just to say the user must be a member of Power Users in order to run QB). So...I need to prevent Power Users from rebooting the server. How?

Terminal Services installation on Great Plains server
by Guest Andrew- 1 reply
Hello, We run Great Plains 7.5 on one of our member servers (Win2003) in test environment. Besides GP there is a custom developed application and SQL Server 2000 installed on this box. We are planning to provide multiple user access to our custom application through the Terminal Services (Application mode). The best practice is to install Terminal Server on a clean machine and then install software through Add Or Remove Programs. There is no problem to reinstall custom application but will the Terminal Server installation affect the Great Plains that can lead to GP redeployment?? Thanks in advance. Any help is appreciated.

Video clips - Poor quality on Terminal Server 2003
by Guest David G. Hoch- 5 replies
I'm running a Windows 2003 Server as a Terminal Server. It has plenty of processing power and RAM, and I've tested it with very few users connected. When watching streaming video in a Terminal Server session the video and audio are choppy and really not watchable. Watching the same video clips on a PC attached to the same network, but not running a Terminal Server session shows smooth video and audio. Any thoughts on why the Terminal Server would be having this problem? Thanks for your help. --David

by Guest murras68- 4 replies

Hi, Can anyone advise me on whether it is possible to use the same profile for roaming users when they are using their normal (Fat client) and TS/ Citrix sessions using the group policy Loopback processing in Replace mode and the UPHClean utility to resolve the corruption issues that may have existed in the past. We want to enable our users to save and retrieve their documents etc from the same location on the network instead of having to create two profile paths / home directories. I have We also intend to use Outlook Web Access for out external users. Thanks M

Printing to a MAC Connected Printer via TS Session
by Guest David G. Hoch- 2 replies
I have a user that is connecting from her MAC (using the RDP software for MAC) to a Terminal Server 2003 box. She wants to be able to print to her locally attached printer. I've loaded the Server 2003 drivers for the printer on the server, but when she connects to the server it does not automatically recongnize her printer and make it available. This works for clients using PC's to launch their remote session. Is this something that can work in a MAC RDP Session, or is that incompatible? Thanks for your help. --David

by Guest Keith Wheeler- 1 reply

I am looking at deploying a Visual FoxPro app to about 40 people using Terminal Server. Here are my questions: 1) Should I use Win2K3 Std. R2 which maxes out at 4GB RAM or Ent. R2 which maxes out at 64GB? 2) Can I use Win2K3 64-bit OS? And would that have any advantages / disadvantages on this scenario? TIA

Non-Roaming mandatory profiles
by Guest Joseph T Corey- 1 reply
Sorry for the cross-post from server.general... Has anyone successfully created a terminal server environment where you had non-roaming mandatory profiles? I'd like to take the idea of a mandatory profile and apply it to all new local accounts that are created, but for numerous reasons I can't use roaming or TS roaming profiles. I'd accept a solution that just deleted the local account at logoff. I've looked at delprof, but that seems to be better suited as a startup or shutdown script. Any help is appreciated! -- Joseph T. How to find RDP client IP Address
by Guest Jerry Alan Braga- 2 replies
we are running thinclient pc against a win2k3 terminal server. One of the machines seems to be having a network problem. I would like to run some network ping tests and others to it but I cannot get the ip address from the TS manager. All I have is the RDP# sessionid and the username. The client name is all the same for that remote location since we use a duplicated CD for all the PC's in that location. How can I find the ip address working backward from teh RDP#sessionid ?

Cannot Remote Control: Error 7054
by Guest Johannes- 16 replies

When I try to remote control a session (neither are console session), I get error: Session (ID 2) remote control failed (Error 7054 - The system has reached its licensed logon limit. Please try again later. ) The old installation didn't have this problem but the hard drive crashed so we have to reinstall. Q1. Why do I get this error and how do I fix it? Q2. a. Is this because we don't have license? b. Our network admin told me that he already put the CAL license on the license manager (on our Domain controller), how do I check if we actually have CAL for Windows 2003 Terminal Server? Btw, here are a few settings: 1. From Terminal Services…

I am running Terminal Services on Windows Server 2003 R2. I have 3 users who are using Remote Desktop to login to Terminal Service. All three users and coming in from different locations and they all have the same printer an HP Laserjet P3005 plugged into their local computer. For 2 of the users there printers are redirecting no problem. The third person's printer is working locally but not when she logs into Terminal Services. When she logs in her printer does not even show up. Is there something else I should check on her local computer? What port should her computer be loaded on her local computer. She also has other printers plugged into her lo…

Hi, does anyone know why a user that has moved to a new location still sees the printers from the old location when TS'd into a server? We have a user that has moved from one building to another. The client is a new workstation with XP pro and the server is Windows server 2003. User properties connect client printers at logon and default to main client printer. Local profiles are used, print drivers are on the server. Any ideas? Thanks in advance,

RDP and Vista
by Guest Chris- 1 reply
This might sound like a stupid question but on my Vista box when I connect to a 2003 TS box with the RDP client it asks for Username and Password. Then, once it connects to the 2003 box it again asks for the information. Before it ever try's to connect it prompts me with a question that the "Remote Desktop cannot verify the identiy of the computer..." blah, blah however I figured out how to kill that messagebox with info from this page - "http://weblogs.asp.net/owscott/archive/2006/11/10/Vista_2700_s-Remote-Desktop-Prompt.aspx". RDP adds the IP address into the 'username' so it looks something like 66.7.243.91\Synergy. If I don't put any password in whe…

Hi All I'm running a Windows 2000 Server (DC) and a Windows 2003 Server that I installed 3 months ago and have just installed the terminal server on it 3 days ago, means we've never loged into this Terminal Server remotely. However, when we try to connect (local administrator / domain administrator / simple user ) we get the following error : "To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User Access permissions on this computer. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have these permissions. Sony TZ laptop and terminal service
by Guest Bill M.- 1 reply

Hi there Have a new Sony TZ laptop that is running Vista and is a great unit except for one major issue. The resolution on the TZ is 1366x768 and when I connect to our server running Terminal service I get a partial screen as the server is 1024 x 768 so the ratio is wrong but I have apps that fill the server screen and when you look at them on the Sony you cannot see the bottom portion of the screen.. Now the scroll on the Remote Desktop screen works but does not scroll to the bottom of what would be the server screen it only shows so much and cuts off the rest so I cannot get to the bottom of my App. Is there a cure to this??? Or did I just waste a…
