Terminal services client disconnects immediately
by Guest Stoop- 4 replies

I have a new terminal server, it is a DC, and a fresh install. When I try to connect to terminal server from any client, it "blinks" and disconnects immediately. There is no timeout delay like would be normal if there was no TS installed on the server, so some portion of it is working. Any ideas?

by Guest rbg- 6 replies

I have a medium sized distribunted communitiy of devices. My license sever tells mr that cals allocated to the same machine name. Are the any utilities that can show move information regarding the machine as I want to avoid asking the users to look at their terminal settings. I suspect there is a faulty terminal which is taking more than one license but I cannot eaasily find it as the machine name is not listed against any logged in sessions but licenses continue to be allcated to this machine name. Please help.

First print job of day ALWAYS hangs on server for a user
by Guest Rich- 6 replies
this is the weirdest problem i've ever seen. We have a user who's first print job from her RDC session always hangs every day. Then when she logs off the server and back on to clear her virtual print queue mapped to the network printer installed on her local computer, she can then print. I've tried deleting her profile from the server, reinstalling the printer on her local computer, no such luck. Any ideas of what could I could possibly try next???? She use mstsc to connect to the 2000 SP4 server. Even cancelling the job in her virtual print queue doesn't work, it just sits at Deleting forever until she logs off.

Pls. I need urgent help!! I have two Windows 2003 SP2 terminal server running. Unfortunately these servers do no longer receive licenses from the terminal service license server. We have AD in place and Terminal servers and the license server are in another subnet. Connection works on technical base (TCP/IP ok, authority ok and all these stuff) As I open the terminal server license consol and try to connect to license server manually I receive the message, that there is no valid license server availabel in workgroup or Domain. The license server itself response, but not the service. (Server is not a valid license server). I have no idea what to do rein…

Are there any TS CALs that come with Windows Server 2003?
by Guest Joe Murphy- 9 replies
I'm looking to add 5 CALs to my TS and when I go into the TS Licensing utility, I see my DC (which is the only TS server in my environment) and it reads Product: Existing Windows 2000 Server - Terminal Services CAL Token (per device) Type: Built-in Total: Unlimited Available: Unlimited Issued: 0 So, what does this mean? I have unlimited TS CALs? (I don't think so.) Is there a number of CALs that come with Windows Server? I don't want to purchase TS CALs that I don't need. Right now we are using Remote Desktop for Administration, which allows just two concurrent connections. Do I need to uninstall that before bringing up TS? How does the OS diff…

When I try to log on I get an incomplete dialog box: http://bluepointdesign.com/Blog/RDLogin/defaul1.gif More at: http://bluepointdesign.com/Blog/RDLogin/default.htm It happened on one laptop under one profile and then I noticed it affected all profiles. I switched to another desktop PC and it worked fine that day. Now today I see the same problem on the second PC. It seems to be spreading! However I can connect to the remote machines using another VU machine from the same network. Also there ware tow servers on the target and I get the same error on both of those. All client machines are WVU with all the most recent patches and RDC 6. No errors in the event…

Simple question about RD and RWW
by Guest cory@bluepointdesign.com- 2 replies
- 303 views
I've been looking for a while for an answer to what I think should be a common question but I think I'm just not using the right words. We have a 2003 SBS running ISA and on the LAN we have a separate Windows 2003 Standard Server for Terminal Services. In the beginning I had no idea it was so simple to set up access to the TS because I had not heard of RWW. In my mind one maps 3389 to a single server and that's it. For instance at home I have to change the ports on multiple machines so I can map ports on my router to them for remote connections. At this point RWW is FM (F'ng Magic) to me but as with so many things I just take it on faith since it works. But rec…

WMI Performance Counters not fully functional
by Guest D3P3CH3- 3 replies
Hi all, I have special problem with performance counters in windows 2003 server. When I execute query SELECT * FROM Win32_PerfRawData_TermService_TerminalServices then No Instances are returned. Then I execute SELECT * FROM Win32_PerfFormattedData_TermService_TerminalServices - result seems to be OK, BUT Active, Inactive and Total Sessions returns always 0, doesn't matter if anyone is logged in. On another station, when Win32_PerfRawData_TermService_TerminalServices query returns one instance, then everything is OK. Does anybody know how are data into this counter gathered - don't really know where to search for problem... Thanks Vojta

Hi All, I need one urgent help. I have a windows 2003 server with SP1. Its a part of a windows 2003 domain Terminal service is configured in remote administrattion mode. Since no one was able to login to the server using TS, the server was forcibaly rebooted. After reboot the Terminal server service did not come up. We tried couple of options but TS never came up. So from a similar server we did copy some reg keys to the problematic server. After the reg key copy the Terminal server service has come up but we are still not able to do a RDP to that server. Terminal Services, using Hosted Exchange, need to lock down IE
by Guest grokker99- 1 reply

I have a situation, where a client subscribes to Hosted Exchange. They use Outlook on a Terminal Server so I need to lock down IE/ internet usage. I used to use the trick of setting a proxy address of 127.0.0.1 and then locking down the ability of users to change this in IE. But doing that in this situation breaks Hosted Exchange. anyone have a good way to lock down IE for everything but one address/ Hosted Exchange? Thanks, Kristin

move the licensing server
by Guest Jane- 4 replies

Hi all, One of windows 2000 domain controller is our terminal licensing server. I want to demote this domain controller. Then, I need to move the terminal licensing service onto the new windows 2003 domain controller. So, I deactivate the old license server and activate the new server and call MS to reissue the TCAL pack on the new server. Are these steps right? But, we still use windows 2000 terminal servers. Any issue with windows 2000 terminal server connection? What if we need to introduce the new Windows 2003 terminal servers, any issue? Thanks for your help.

I'm trying to configure Our Windows 2003 Server to use Enhanced Security so that I can stop users from downloading Unwanted Junk programs on to our terminal Server. I've tried some settings in GPedit but when I put the sites into the trusted zones they don't seem to take. Can someone give me some guidance on how to Configure IE so that they are not able to download spyware / junkware?
