Remote Desktop / TS on Server 2003 is gone
by Guest martin@leyne.com- 3 replies

I have a server running 2003, Web, SP1. Remote Desktop stopped working after a reboot. What I have been able to see so far: - Remote Desktop as part of System Properties is enabled - There is no listener displayed in TS Manager - The Server is no longer listening for 3389 (as shown with netstat) - The options for TS, as part of Add/Remove Windows components, are gone It's as if RDP was wiped off the map. The reboot was harmless enough - no major changes. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Martin

Powerpoint 2000 Org Charts in Terminal Server Session
by Guest Reine- 2 replies

I am having great difficulty in getting two users to be able to open up the org charts simultaneously in Powerpoint2000 during a terminal server session. I continually get the error "Unable to load MS Organization Chart, Press F1 for Help", when the second user attempts to open an org chart. Office was installed properly on terminal using the resource tool and .mst transform file and is running on Server 2003. This is apparently a known issue anyway with respect to Powerpoint 2000 but not necessarily involving terminal server. There is a related knowledge base article KB218571 that suggests a work around which I have tried to no avail. The key seems t…

TS Performance when copying file or sending email attachment
by Guest Badogg- 3 replies

I have a Terminal Server that has about 5 users connected to it max. Everything works great except when one of two things takes place. In either event, all connected TS Clients comes to a severe crawl: 1) If copying a file from/to TSclient either through copy/paste functions or by doing it from a command prompt via copy <filename> \\tsclient\c\. 2) If sending an email from outlook that has a file attachment. The slowdown affects all TS Clients that are logged on to the server. The O/S is Server 2003 Enterprise, running Dual Xeon 3.0ghz processors, 2gb of Ram. Connection is a 6mb cable connection. Exchange is running on another server which …

Can a remote connection cause lpt1 corruption?
by Guest StoneChampion- 1 reply
I have a Windows 2003 Std Server acting as a terminal server. Attached to it's LPT1 port is an Okidata ML320 printer. A remote user also has this same model of printer attached to her local PC. Ever since this user has started using TS to connect there have been times where her print job is directed to the server's local lpt1 instead of her PC. (I havnt ruled out the user selecting the wrong printer but...) Also the LPT1 port on the server needs to be removed and reinstalled several times a day. Could the fact that she has the same printer attached to her local pc that is attached to the server be causing this corruption to the LPT1 port?

Re: Workstation with printers mapped under different Session # I am having the same problems, When a user is logging off, the inactive ts printer ports remain. If the user is logging on again he can't use his session printer. Do you have a solution already??? Licensing Server Question-Where to Install
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 3 replies
We have a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition and are getting ready to install Terminal Server. This file/member server is in a domain with SBS2000 as the DC (NOT SBS2003). We are reading discrepancy on where to install the Licensing Server. This is a small (less than 20 PC are currently in the domains) environment. We will be adding additional 10 PCs/Users that only need to access the Terminal Server. We purchased (5) 2003 Server CALs and (10) TS-CALs (Per Device). Where should the Licensing Server be installed? Thanks!

Terminal Services/SBS- Adding Users & Managing Desktops
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 2 replies

We are going to be installing TS2003 on a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition. This server is currently a file server in an SBS2000 domain (not SBS2003). 1. The client machines are going to be setup on a factory floor, and for simplicity, there will be just one user per machine. These users(DC1, DC2, DC3, etc) have never been added to the domain and only need to access the TS for a data collection program. Do we add the users to the Active Directory on the SBS2000 box or within the TS Local Users & Groups as members of the Remote Desktop Users? Note, these users may need to access CAD files that are on the DC through a mapped drive. All usrs will have the…

licensing help
by Guest Eric32- 2 replies

I recently installed a new server running Windows 2003 and installed terminal services. This server is replacing an existing terminal server. When I did the install I didn't pick a license server and it told me I had 120 days (I think) for the grace period. All of the users have since been moved off of the old server onto this new server (most are thin clients). My question is how can I make sure the new server is licensed properly. The old server is still providing file services but I can go ahead and remove terminal services. When I go to the new server and look at the terminal services licensing it's pointing to the DC that has the licenses instal…

Terminal Services Problems
by Guest Kevin- 1 reply

Hello, Wondering if someone can point me in the right direction to solve some terminal services problems. As a business we run multiple terminal servers. We're running Windows 2003 with about 9 terminal servers. 1st question, the first problem were having is that previous to me being here, they tried to put the servers in a round robin configuration so when a users logs on, they would be directed to a random terminal server. They had several problem implementing that with Windows 2003 server. One question that did come up was maybe Windows 2003 R2 might overcome this problem. Another place I worked at they had a Sunfure 5000 that some consulting compa…

Unable to print to network printer...
by Guest Brad Pears- 2 replies

I recently installed a driver for our HP OfficeJet 7310 all-in-one printer on our Windows 2003 SP2 terminal server. The printer installed fine and I (being the administrator) am able to print to this printer with no problems from my session. The printer is configured with a static IP address as we are using the ethernet interface. However, when another terminal server users attempts to print to this printer, the job immediately fails and the print job has to be cancelled (even a test page) from the queue . I tried setting the "everyone" group to full access (normally the everyone group has "print" only access) and this did not solve the problem. I am…

Cannot logon to TS
by Guest Dale Miller- 9 replies

I have a Windows 2003 Server running Terminal Services. I want to add another user to be able to log onto the Terminal Server. Whenever she tries, she gets "To logon to this remote computer, you must be granted the Allow Logon Through Terminal Services right." error message. I go into GPEdit.msc, and find the "Allow Logon Through Terminal Services" property, and see the one user who currently has this right ... but the "Add" button is greyed out. I also go into Active Directory, and into the new user's properties. The "deny logon through terminal services" check box is NOT checked. Why can I not change the Group Policy? Any suggestions? Thanks. D…

When I attempt to connect to a 2003 server using Vista Ent. I recieve the following error message. "The security policy of your computer requires you to type a password on the windows security dialogue box. However, the remote computer you want to connect to cannot recognize credentials supplied using the windows security dialogue box. For assistance, contact your system administrator or technical support." However, when I use a Vista Business WS, I have no problem. I have tried setting the Server Authentication to "connect, even if authentication fails". Any ideas?

cannot connect with RDP...
by Guest Billingsley- 3 replies

My Remote Desktop client just blinks like it tries to connect but gets denied right away. The server is Windows 2003 Storage Server R2 and is obviously in Remote Administration Mode. When I look at TCPView port 3389 isn't listening but when I look at netstat -an port 3389 is. I also get strange behavoir while copying files to the server such as: " Not enough server storage is available to process this command." Which I know is completely wrong because I have over 900G free. I sense there are some RPC issues but I'm not sure how to go about troubleshooting them. Can someone give me a pointer or two? TIA. -Steven-
