User Profile hangs
by Guest td- 7 replies

I have a user that when he logs onto our TS 2003 box it hangs at loading your personal settings. He did not have any issues in the past. This has just started happening. I was going to rename his current profile and let him log on and then I would just copy over what he needed from his old profile to the new one but.....when I try to rename the old profile it says Access is denied. Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not in use. I am assuming that there is a file within this profile that is locked or hung by the system. Is there anyway to unlock it without restarting the server? IS there anyway to see what file is locked in t…

Every time I try to access an access database file through terminal server with a regular user I get the following message: "Windows can not access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." If I logon with account administrator I can access the database. If I place the user in the administrator group I can access the database but i do not want to do that. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi; I got the following message when I logon to my Windows 2003 Terminal Server, how can I fix it. "Your terminal services temporary client licence will expire in 5 days" I did purchase the Terminal Services CAL and activating in a couple years ago but when I looked at the Windows Server 2003 - terminal server per user CAL token, I found nothing there. I saw it before. I only found some computer name listed in "Temporary License for Windows 2003....." cert only. Why? -- Kane

How to disable logging of failed printer installation
by Guest Brian- 7 replies
Various client stations of my terminal servers have virtual printers (CutePDFWriter, etc.) that do not exist on the TS. I would actually prefer that clients disable printer connections, but that does not always get done, and so it fills up the TS event log with pairs of 1106/1111 errors. (printer could not be installed / Driver... is unknown) What is the registry entry for disabling logging of printer installation-related events on the TS?

Login error for new user on Domain Controller TS
by Guest Marc S- 7 replies

I have two Terminal Servers. Both Windows 2003 Standard. One is also a DC. For a user, she can logon to the Terminal Server (non-DC) no problem. For other TS that is a DC, I have tried to log her on remotely for the first time, but when the user tries to access that server they get this error: "you must be granted the Allow logon through terminal services right. Members of the remote desktop users have this right." She is already a member of a domain-wide Security Group called Remote Users. 1. Do I need to log her on 1x locally at the DC Terminal Serverf? 2. Where is the built-in Remote Desktop Users Group on a DC. It's not listed under Computer Ma…

Licensing
by Guest Marc S- 7 replies

If I have two Terminal Servers. Both Windows 2003 Standard. The Licensing Server is on a separate 3rd Server that is one of our Domain Controllers. If that Licensing Server is shut down for a while, and someone tries to log onto either of the Terminal Servers, what happens? 1. Are they temporarily issued a temporarily TS license? How long does that license last? 2. Even if the TS is set for "per Device" mode, can it allow 2 simultaneous connections like the Remote Desktop for Administrators...or are the two simultaneous ONLY for Remote Desktop for Administrators.

Remote desktop: Problems reconnecting to an existing session.
by Guest s7b@americancentury.com- 7 replies

Good afternoon, We are having a persistent issue with Remote Desktop at our company. I have only recently been asked to help with this issue, but it has been happening for around a year. The symptoms are as follows: A user locks their machine and later tries to remote in (either from home or from within the same building/network) They put in the computer name and click OK. They reach the target machine and are prompted from their password. They put in their password and click ok. The dialogue box goes gray, as though it is about to proceed to the Desktop. The box stays gray for 10 seconds or so, and the just goes away. No error message. I see no events cre…

Safe to run Office 2007 with SBS 2003
by Guest Eric- 7 replies
Hi all, I am posting today to find if anybody is running Office 2007 with SBS 2003 and a Terminal Server? I am looking to upgrade a client to use Office 2007 from Office 2003 and I wnated to make sure that Outlook 2007 plays nice with Exchange 2003 on the SBS? Anybody having any issues? Is there anything special that needs to be done. I am aware of a possible issue with Outlook Web but I think that was more due to the Vista side of things. Again, I just want to make sure that all is well before I deploy Office 2007 company wide? Thanks much and have a great day!

Update on serial port redirection and advice needed
by Guest Brad- 7 replies
About a month ago, I posted about having serial port redirection issues. Vera directed me to a KB article where I had to get Microsoft support to provide a hotfix on the Terminal Server. This was done and this is where the project stands: The program does work on a thin client that has Windows XP Embedded, however it still does not work on another thin client that has Windows CE 4.2. The case with Microsoft has not been closed yet and still is a open issue (the Microsoft support is well worth the cost). They have referred me to KB #887695 where I contacted HP and they walked me through the steps of upgrading to the current CE version. So I know t…

How to stop prompt for Credentials?
by Guest Simon White- 7 replies
I have secure website used by clients to connect to terminal servers. When they click a link a dynamically created RDP file is returned launching their Remote Desktop Connection. However, they are now prompted for a password despite the fact that it was supplied in the RDP file. The terminal servers all use SSL and I have turned off the prompt for credentials item in the RDP file. If they login and save their password then it appears to work fine on subsequent connections however the problem is that they usually do not know the password having not needed it in the past. I would actually prefer not to give it to them so that I can change them on a re…

Computers keep leaving and re-joining session directory
by Guest lozza- 7 replies
Guys, Just looking for some understanding here. I have (I believe) setup session directory correctly to be hosted on a cluster and everything seems to be working in terms of sessions reconnecting... SO.. not much of an issue. However something I have noticed in the event logs of the active node of the cluster hosting the session directory is that the TS Servers that have been configured for Session Directory throughout the whole day keep leaving and rejoining the Session Directory within a second or so.. is this normal and could this cause problems in terms of users logging in at that second the server leaves and then comes back in a second later? i…

Selectively Redirect Printers
by Guest Vincent- 7 replies
I have done some searching on this topic, but have come up empty. Is there a way to selectively redirect a client's printers? So, the client has printers A, B and C, but I only want to redirect printers B and C. And, yes, I do know about the FilterQueueType registry setting, but the problem is that both printers A and C are USB. The actual reason for me wanting to do this, is that printer A causes the session to hang when I try to logoff. So my reasoning is that if this printer is not redirected, the session will no longer hang when I logoff. If anyone has ideas concerning either of these, it would be most appreciated. Thank you. remote desktop time out when accessing TS
by Guest Jim Burke in Novi- 7 replies

I have been using remote desktop for months to access our terminal server from my laptop. I am hardwired to my modem using earthlink cable. It always worked fine. SUddenly it has started timing out on me. My web access works fine, and I can use remote desktop on my laptop from a friend's houses using their internet connection and I get to the server OK, but on mine now it just times out on me. Earthlink help was of no help to me at all. I can ping the server fine, get to the web OK, just can't get the remote desktop connection. Other users are getting to the server fine. ANy idea what would cause this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Permission Issue? Icons Denied in Terminal Services
by Guest KWME- 7 replies
I was working on my server this afternoon trying to get a printer to work on Terminal Services. I must have changed something, and I can't remember what. When users log-on to the terminal server they get the following message when clicking on almost all of the icons on the desktop and start menu "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." One weird thing is that the internet explorer icon works perfectly. I've checked and rechecked the share permissions and can't find a problem. I rebuilt the mandatory profile. I've checked the group policy and can't find a problem. I'm at wi…

Windows Server 2003 RDP - 32-bit display possible ??
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 7 replies

Is it possible to use RDP with 32-bits display in Remote Desktop, in Windows Server 2003? I am using Remote Desktop for Remote Administration mode. In Administrative Tools > Terminal Services Configuration > Connections > RDP-Tcp > Client Settings tab, I can Limit Maximum Colour Depth to only 24, 16, 15 or 8-Bits. 32-bit seems to be unavailable. When I use 24-bit, and video played looks all blue. This is not a big problem, as playing video through it is a very rare event, but I still use 16-bit instead, as colours look fine in that mode, and there is not much perceptible difference in that mode. However, I would like to use 32-bit mode,…

New 2003 Installation with RDP Printing Problems
by Guest Mark Stoker- 7 replies

We have just installed a new 2003 R2 terminal server solution in one of our retail stores. We are using Wyse S30 terminal with HP P2014 printers attached via the USB connection. I am using the Windows 2003 driver. Most of the time the users can print fine but we have seen the following problems. i) If say the printer jams and the user has the intervene the print job seems the get 'stuck' in the print queue. Re-starting the print spooler service usally does the job getting it to print. ii) Sometimes when the users logs off the instance of the printer is not removed. Subsequetly when the user logs back in there are 2 instances of the printer and they…

Locking down local destops question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 7 replies

In a test environment, we have setup an SBS2000 DC with a Windows 2003 TS and XP Pro clients. We have successfully applied a GPO to the OU that contains the TS for the Testusers and the TS desktop is locked down-- with the exception of a few items we cannot remove using a Windows2000 GP editor. We followed the standard procedure of moving the TS into is own OU, adding the Testusers group to the Security, removing 'Authenticated Users' from Security, adding thte TS machine to the Security. We also enabled "loopback processing" with the 'Replace' option. On the XP Pro clients, the Testusers have no reason to use any local resources as they only use what we give …

Client Printer Redirection
by Guest farleynx- 7 replies

Hello, I have several users connecting to a Win2K3 Terminal Server that need their local printers mapped. However, I would like to restrict them to only being able to map their local default printer. The following registry setting controls that on the client side, but I don't have access to the local computers in order to make that change. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default\AddIns\RDPDR\RedirectDefaultPrinterOnly I thought I might be able to control this through the group policy so I created a custom .adm file (see below). ;Redirection of A Terminal Server Client's default printer only CLASS USER CATEGORY !!WindowsComponen…
