Hi, I am using terminal server 2003. Users have locally mapped drives with short cuts to remote server applications. When I try to run a remote application I get a "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. The link is correct I can run it from a desktop system. I also get the same error if I run it as a admin on the terminal server. Group Policy is blocked for the administrator. any suggestions would be appreciated. jason

Hi, I'm trying to use Remote Assistance (Offer Remote Assistance Tool) in my network. I have a 2003 Server and clients with WinXP. I've set up all policy configs for both server and clients. I try to offer assistance to the clients in the network, I start "Offer Remote Assistance" from the Help Center, the put the computer clients name. I can reach succesfuly the client as I can see the users connected to the computer to select which user I want to help. After selecting I click Start Remote Assistance and I get the following error: "Program cannot be started. Try it again" Any idea of what the problem can be? Thanks

Activesync on Enterprise 2003
by Guest ASkoog66- 2 replies
Years ago I dabbled with using activesync on Win2000 terminal server and was unable to realistically use. I am now having to face the monster again, only with Windows 2003 Enterprise Server setup as an application server. I currently have everybody running their Outlook on their local machines and syncing to their Ipaq's via local USB activesync. I would like to start migrating people to using Outlook 2003 on the terminal server, but still need to be able for them (about 5 people) to be able keep syncing with their Ipaq's on their local computers via USB. I have no desire to setup up Small Business Server or an Exchange server for our tiny organiza…

Excel Horizontal Scrollbar Buttons Stop Responding through TS
by Guest jeffreysandor2@gmail.com- 2 replies
- 256 views
I have a few users testing out a TS environment, and found that in Excel, the horizontal scrollbar buttons stop responding after 5-10 minutes. It occurs in more than one spreadsheet, and only through the TS. Horizontal scrolling still works via the arrow keys (by navigating to cells outside of the viewable area), and by clicking mid-scrollbar to "jump" to that location. Its only the scroll arrows on the scrollbar...and with that said...the arrows on the scrollbar disappear as well. I've tried Tools-->Options, uncheck Horizontal Scroll Bar, then apply...and then again recheck the horizontal scroll bar and apply, but when the scrollbar reappears, the buttons are…

Remote Desktop problems...
by Guest Matt- 3 replies

All-- I have a server that is running Windows Server 2003 R2. I can connect via remote desktop on the same domain, XP workstation, but can not connect accross the internet using XP workstation. I can ping the server from the router, I can log in to the router and see the server, but I can't connect. I have port and application forwarding correctly configured, I believe. I've changed the listening ports to bypass firewall settings. What steps should be taken to accomplish this. Thanks.

CAL Model
by Guest Richard Thompson- 1 reply
Hi there, I have a quick question regarding Licensing. I have a terminal services environment with 42 servers hosting applications to about 1300 users. These users all connect from 1300 unique devices which include Windows 2000 pc's, Windows XP pc's and Linux based thin clients. I know each device needs a Terminal Services CAL, my question is Windows CAL's. As far as I understand each device/user which makes use of a windows service requires a CAL regardless of whether the machine is a terminal server or not and whether the device is a thin client or not. Is this correct? Thanks in advance, Rt

Restrict logon hours using domain account
by Guest MWoods- 1 reply
Hi, I need to restrict access to a terminal server within our domain based on time, i.e. allow unlimited access between 13:00-15:00 but at no other times. The user will be using there domain accounts during the day so Logon Hour restrictions via the user properties method is not an option. Does anyone know how I can achieve this or even a third party utility I could use? Thanks in advance for any help.

Screen goes black
by Guest Bob- 10 replies

Hi, I notice that Remote Desktop sessions will blacken their screens after a period of inactivity. Why is this and how can it be controlled? I believe my Power Schemes are set to never turn off the monitors and the screen saver is set to none. Also, when it does happen, how can I wake up the RDP session in a non-destructive way? The only thing that works for me is to click the screen. Shift-key or CTRL+ALT+END doesn't help. Thanks! --- Bob

I am facing a very anoying problem. My Terminal Server which was also a backup domain controller , but for the sake of solving this problem i demoted it , my without any effect on the problem. The problem is that my terminal server clients are not able to add printers on the network to their desktop. Now i went through google & some MS knowledgebases & got to a solution where one needs to disable a security option in the Security "Device prevent users from installing printers" which i did , but still nothing .. in fact i disable this options everywhere i can find , no matter local security policy, domain security or Domain controller security policy but s…

Difference between temp and full TS CAL
by Guest citrix.expert@gmail.com- 1 reply
- 230 views
When looking at a Windows client device's registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\MSLicensing, is there a way to tell whether the TS CAL the device has been issued is temporary or full? I know I could just look at the TS License Server for the device name but I specifically want to know if there is any way to tell by looking at the device's registry only?

windows 2000 terminal services
by Guest Ed Mcspadden- 1 reply
We currently have one windows server 2000 sp4. Terminal Services is used in administration mode w/remote desktop to check backups, etc... We now have a need for a couple of users to be able to connect remotely from their PCs at home and use goldmine and quickbooks. Questions: What licensing will need to be purchased? If terminal services is running in application mode, will this effect the ability to connect for administration purposes? Are there any helpful how-to guides available for setup procedures? Thank you for your help. I do appreciate it greatly.
