Need HELP Transferring Print Servers PLEASE!
by Guest DJone- 1 reply

Hoping this is the right area of this board... since I do some times use Terminal Services to manage/add printers. Anyway, on to the meat and potatoes: Ok basically just looking for the best route to switch users (About 300-400) who are using printers on a current print server (Windows Server 2003 box), we'll call print-serv1. So all the printers they use are currently on that server and they are printing through that server as well. We have made a new server, we'll call print-serv2, and have installed and tested all the printers that the users are currently using on the network through print-serv1, still keeping the share names and drivers the exact sam…

dumb TS map drive question
by Guest SeriousSam- 2 replies

I was under the impression that if I mapped a network drive on our terminal server in install mode, the mapped drive would be available to all TS users on that server. Apparently I was wrong. What is the easiest way to temporarily make a mapped drive available on a TS server? I need the drive to be mapped from the TS box to a temporary app server while I do some upgrades on the original app server. Thanks!

TS access Disconnect message??
by Guest WetBehindEars- 2 replies

I have a user who receives this messages on the TServer. 'Remote Desktop Disconnected The remote session was ended because the idle timeout limit was reached. This limit is set by the server administrator or by network policies.' Where do I make that change? In the user's AD properties? I have a group policy and I disabled the settings in there and ran an gpudate but I think they still receive the message. Am I missing a configuration somewhere?

What is a setting in 2003 server to disable prompting for username and password ? When starting a remote connection directly from client (XP), like this: mstsc.exe test.rdp, password is not asked, but if command is started remotely from server like this: psexec.exe \\10.10.10.10.3 -s -u user1 -p user1 -I -d mstsc.exe test.rdp, everything works ok, but password is allways prompted.

My Documents redirection and Office
by Guest Robert- 0 replies

Hi We have a farm of W2K Terminal Servers. A Group Policy on the OU that contains the Servers redirects "My Documents" from teh profile to a UNC path, based on security membership. This works without any problems. We have discovered that if the Office apps are't tailored for each user when their account is created, then the default locatin for documents (eg Word files) is the "My Documents" withing the profile. This also applies to auto-saved files, etc. We have tried loading the .adm files for Office into Active Directory to set these on a test OU that contains a few user accounts, but have found that if we specify "My Documents" as the file location…

Hi, I have a Win 2K3 Standard Edition without any Domain, AD, or any other services configured, just as default, with a workgroup and a SQL express. I want to use a few concurrent TS connections, but my 10-Pack CAL will not arrive until 2 weeks (my IT supplier is on vacations), and I read that I can use a temporally unlimited licenses for a 90 days but I don't know how to do it. I followed this instructions: http://www.chicagotech.net/server/tsls3.htm I installed the TS License and activated the server, but I didn't install any CAL licenses yet. Then I restarted the computer and I opened the Terminal Services Configuration -> RDP-Tcp's Properties -&…

Cannot get past the welcome-to-windows screen
by Guest Ole Thomsen- 4 replies
We recently started to have a problem logging on to our WTS 2003 farm. Random servers stop accepting remote clients, while logged-in users sessions continue. Logging on locally shows the welcome-to-windows screen, pressing ctrl-alt-del gives no login screen but after 10-20 seconds the welcome-to-windows screen reappears. The only way to get access to the server is rebooting. We recently added the august security patches, and before that IE7. Ole Thomsen

Roaming profiles
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply
We have users on a stand-alone terminal server - Win2k3R2 Standard and their profiles are not roaming but are local. We are trying to move these users to a new terminal NLB farm with roaming profiles. In the GPO for the terminal server farm the users roaming profile is pointing to \\ad.domain.com\central\TermProfiles\%username% which is pointed to one location on a server that isn't part of the farm. When we move a profile from the stand-alone server (which is a terminal profile) to the roaming profile server (which is identical to the farm nodes), the login of the user will create a folder username.domain under the username folder which is there…

Vista and 2003 server
by Guest chas- 11 replies

I'm trying to connect to a windows 2003 sever which is on the local network, via Vista's remote desktop. I get the error message:- "The client could not connect. You are already connected to the console of this computer. A new console session cannot be established." I have no idea what this message means or how to fix it. A terminal session worked fine from XP before I upgraded to vista. A friend of mine with a very similar set-up, has exactly the same error when he tries to connect to his server also. Can any tell what I'm doing wrong? Chas

RDP Server 2003R2 > Thin client problem
by Guest Jan Kratky- 0 replies

I have the following problem: we have a new Windows 2003R2 terminal server in our office. Our Windows 2000 and XP PC's can connect to this server normally, but our Windows 4.0 and 5.0 thin clients are unable to connect. The thin clients can still normally login to our older terminal servers running Windows 2003 and Windows 2000. This issue is weird, because there are no errors in the server's Eventlog. Can anybody help?

Reason for RDP failing after reboot?
by Guest SilkBC- 0 replies
Hello, I have noticed with some Windows Server 2003 servers I manage that after rebooting via an RDP session after applying Windows updates that everything wil come back up except for the RDP service itself. I can ping the server, connect to any shares it may have, use mail services (if Exchange), etc. I have this happen with both SP1 and SP2 machines, so it doesn't seem to be a service pack issue. Nothing in the Event Logs indicate what the cause may be. A subsequent reboot always resolves the issue (I usually either have to go there and reboot by logging in on the console, or if I have access to another machine on the network, I am usually able to issue…

RDP logon error 1219 for one specific user
by Guest Peter Hornby- 1 reply
We have a number of servers in our test lab which are commonly accessed by RDP. There is a small subset of these servers which one user, and one user only, cannot successfully logon to. It seems as though the common characteristic of the affected servers is that they're all set up by our lab administrator to be members of a particular Active Directory OU. When he supplies his domain credentials to the RDP logon screen, an error dialog is displayed with the text: "The system cannot log you on due to the following error: The RPC server is unavailable". An entry is written to the server's application event log with source Winlogon, and EventID 1219. The…

My Server 2003 box encountered some disk issues and now will not start Terminal Services. I got some NTFS errors in the Event Viewer. I rebooted the Server and it said it could not start Terminal Services Error 1067. I went into services and tried to manually start it, but just get this Error 1067. It also cannot find the Server that has been activated in Terminal Server licensing.

Group Policy For Terminal Server
by Guest Rossco1981- 14 replies

HI All This is probably a straight forward problem but I am a bit stuck. We have an OU for terminal servers which has the GPO appplied to it, to restrcited various things (such as run box, control panel access, map drive etc). This works perfectly well when users log onto the server they can only do the tasks we want them to do, however as the policy is applied at machine level when we log on a administrator we also experience the same restrictions. We cannot apply the policy at user level (as users are in many places and use different computers/laptops etc). Is there a way to apply the policy to everyone but Administrators? As we need to use terminal…

printui.dll

I am attempting to map network printers for all TS users through the login scripts. The printers are installed on a print server with Server 2003x64 as the OS. My Terminal Servers are also Server 2003x64. The command I am using is: "rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /in \\printerserver\printer" When I run the command, I get the following message: "Operation could not be completed. Either the printer name was type incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server." I am able to connect to the printers through various other methods and so I know the server name and printer names are correct. What am I missing?

Session Directory

I have several terminal NLB farms with multiple nodes in each farm. When a user calls in with issues it is hard to find exactly where that user is logged in at (which node) with tsadmin. Is there an easy way or GUI somewhere that will show the contents of the Session Directory to find where the user is actually logged in at? Thanks,

Synch My Documents for Notebook Users
by Guest rjcmi- 1 reply

I am trying to design/conceptualize a more efficient storage and productivity upgrade with two notebook users in our center. Currently I have about thirty users all on desktops, but I also have two notebook users that often travel and need files out of their my documents folder while at conferences/meetings which may not have Internet access for them to log into the server. What I would like to do is when they do log in, their notebooks synch their local my documents to the terminal server's my documents. What I believe I need to do is create a shared folder where their My Documents are redirected. Then make that folder available for off- line access. Then…
