Terminal Server Printing issues (Additional Print trays missing)
by Guest venkat- 0 replies
We recently installed windows 2003 terminal server with SP2. Most of our printer are HP laserjet printers and to be specific laserjet 4100, 4050, 4300and 9000 series printer. We get the default printer mapped ok while logging on to the terminal server but seem to lose the additional trays in the printer settings on the TS client. Is there any way to fix this issue. If we log on as admin to that TS session we can add the trays and the setting for that particular workstation remains OK. Is this a permission issue? Once we have the trays the printing is not an issue

Total Terminal Server connections
by Guest Jeff Volante- 3 replies

Hi all, I am trying to find a way to pragmatically determine the total number of connections for a given terminal server. I know that I can get this information via the "qwinsta /counter" command, but where is this info stored. I thought I could get it via WMI and the Win32_TerminalService class which has a property called TotalCount. When I query this class I get no information back. Is this information stored in the registry or somewhere? Any solutions are fine. Thanks.

TS Licence Server message

Hi, I get a message: “No Terminal Server licence server is available …” every time I start Terminal Server Licensing. I only have one server in my domain, Windows 2003 TS which also is a DC and TS Licence Server. I know this is not the recommend solution, but shouldn’t it work? I can connect manually to the Licence Server and verify that it is activated. Why doesn’t it connect to the Licence Server automatically? Will this situation cause problem for me when the first 120 days has passed? Thanks! Tommy

not creating IP session printer
by Guest Q- 5 replies
Here is the problem(s). When some users connect to the terminal server it will NOT redirect any IP printers. Some users it will redirect IP printers. The printers that are redirected, on the workstation I can give the user manage printer under the security tab, but on the terminal server this right will not hold. We also use Novell NDPS printers and they are redirected but the manage printers right will not hold. I do have a user that all works correctly with an IP printer that is redirected. I am at my wits end over this and ANY help is greatly appreciated!!

terminal server and Access 2003 runtime
by Guest jay- 3 replies

Setup: Windows SBS 2003 as domain controler, Windows Server Standard 2003 as terminal server. Application to run is an Access mdb running under Access runtime 2003. Terminal server locked down by group policy (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/overview/lockdown.mspx) Problem: Runs like a champ when I log in as Administrator in a console session. Other users logging in as a terminal server session have Access crash (with the "Send / Don't send to Microsoft" window popping up). I've checked to make sure that the users have rights to the programs involved. Any help??? Thanks in advance. Jay

Hello, I am getting a very strange profile issue on a clients terminal server. Some users (and they are always the same users) are unable to use their profile on the terminal server. I have attached the event logs below. But the same users never have a problem using the profile when logging on to a PC. Event Type: Error Event Source: Userenv Event Category: None Event ID: 1509 Date: 18/07/2007 Time: 09:06:14 User: DOMAIN\THISUser Computer: TERMSERVER Description: Windows cannot copy file \\FILESERVER\Profiles\THISUSER\NTUSER.DAT to location C:\Documents and Settings\THISUSER\NTUSER.DAT. tsshutdn command
by Guest Brad Pears- 4 replies

In a power fail situation (we seem to have them often where we are located) I want to run a script on our terminal server to notify the users of an imminent shutdown and then actually shut the terminal server down. To do this I thought I would use the "tsshutdn 120" command to shut the terminal server down in 2 minutes. The actual script this command is embedded in will not have run until after having already been on UPS battery power for 5 minutes so that should give users plenty of time to get off the system. However, I want to ensure that the server can be powered back up unattended by the attached Smart UPS once power is restored. I ahve my UPS config…

ActiveX is installed but runs only for Administrator
by Guest Scott- 1 reply

We have recently replaced a Terminal Server. After installing Terminal Services we installed Adobe Flash Player and a QuickBooks ActiveX control. Both work if a user with local Administrator rights logs into the local machine. Both work if "Administrator" logs into the domain. Neither works if anyone else logs in to the domain - even other Domain Admins. Console vs. terminal session makes no difference. The domain controller has not been changed, so any domain Group Policies that were in affect for the old Term. Server are still in affect for the new one. We know it has to be permissions/security - but we've tried everything we can think of. We'v…

user sessions remain in disconnect state forever...
by Guest Brad Pears- 5 replies

We are using a windows 2003 (sp1) terminal server. Our domain controller is a Windows 2000 small bus server. I have configured user session time limits etc... using the "sessions" tab in each users AD user profile to "end a disconnected session" after 1 hour. I have not configured anything on the actual terminal server using the "Terminal Server Configuration" app because I wanted to do it user specifically. For some reason when a users session becomes disconnected, it never gets logged off when the 1 hour expiration limit I set is reached. This has not been a big problem in the past (I used to log them off manually) but just recently we have had a f…

Hi I want to enable the "Shutdown" button on my domain controllers (don't ask why) to a number of administrators who are not in the domain admins group. The will connect to the server using Terminal Sevices. I have altered the Domain Controller GPO with the following settings: Computer configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\Security Option\Shutdown: Allow system to be shut down without having to log on = ENABLED Computer configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assigment\Shut down the system = Here I added the user accounts in question. The problem is that these settings only enables the "Shutdown" button for the console (…

How can user kill own session
by Guest Marc- 4 replies

Hello Newsgroup, is there a way (script, small tool etc.) which gives an user the possibility to "kill" his own session on a Windows 2003 wts NLB? Sometimes we have users, which have hanging sessions. When they "disconnect" the session and logon again, the user gets his old hanging session (from the session directory). Thank you. Regards Marc

Adding Terminal Services to SBS2K Domain
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 1 reply

We have an SBS2000 domain - NOT SBS2003 - with 15 licenses We also have a Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2 box that is used as a file/ application server in the same domain. We are considering using the Terminal Services capability of the 2003 Server (not activated yet) to allow (5) thin-clients on the factory floor to connect to the Windows 2003 Server. Questions: 1. Can we activate a Termianl Server in this domain? 2. If so, can anyone give us guidance on how the licensing for the thin-clients will work? That is, does Termianl Server, once activated, already have the (5) licenses we would need? 3. Would we have to buy any additional licenses for the SBS2000…

What is best thin client hardware.
by Guest ThomasAJ- 2 replies

Apologies if on wrong forum but question is due to using Terminal Services. All my users now spend 99% of their time on TS and do no work on their local PC. I have a new user and need new hardware and stumbled upon the 'thin client' concept which sounds great. A brief look at the major hardware suppliers showed that only HP have TC hardware. Surely that cannot be right and any comments on their products in the Microsoft TS environment. Um is there a thin client forum? -- Regards Tom

Local Printers Being Renamed - Big Problem!
by Guest msnews.microsoft.com- 2 replies
Hello We are running Terminal Services on a Win2k3 SP2 server. When a user connects to the terminal server and connects their local printer, the printer is being renamed to something like this: Laser1 on WORKSTATION in session 8 This is causing a big problem for us as the app running in the terminal service environment can only use printer names that are 8 characters or less. If I log in as an admin, I can rename the printer but only for that session. The users do not have the permission to rename it, even if they wanted to. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

TS and Flash Player
by Guest Mike B.- 2 replies

I have a user who is trying to view embedded flash player images on a website while logged into a TS session. The server is a Windows 2003 server with about 15 users logging on. If I give this user admin rights, he can view the web page without any issues. Once he loses those rights, the web page will not show the page correctly. The Terminal server has IE7 installed and the page he is trying to get to is wcbsfm.com. Thanks.

TS client print to local usb printer
by Guest mwagener- 1 reply

Windows server 2003 x64 running TS for user app. Users are able to establish session and print if they are printing to a network printer. Users cannot print if they have a local printer connected usb. The driver is loaded on the server, but what port should it direct to? Currently DOT4. When users print, the jobs stack up on that printer on the server and do not redirect back to the user.
