Windows 2003 TS - Software Constantly re-installing
by Guest LeighP- 5 replies
We have a client - remote with own IT (i.e. have never seen this setup personally). They're running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Terminal Services. The server has Office 2003 Standard Edition installed on it. We have an Access 2003 Runtime application recently installed on it. This same runtime application has successfully installed on many hundreds of PCs and indeed several TS servers perfectly well. It's an Access 2003 Runtime wrapped in an Installshield expression package (uses an MSI). On this one instance - every attempt to launch the application file (an Access mde) sees the whole install of the package fire up and attempt to run again.…

Transition from single to cluster?
by Guest Brian MXP- 2 replies

Howdy- Is there any way to move from a current, single production Terminal Server to something like a two server cluster? I'd like to have some more fault tolerance and the ability to independently reboot the systems without causing problems for users... And NLB seems like it only handles network loads and not CPU or memory... TIA, BM

How to limit drive allocation to Temporary Internet Files for all users
by Guest Structured Chaos- 2 replies
I just audited the profile directory sizes on my TS server and found that many of the Temporary Internet Files directories exceeded 2GB in size each. I am aware of the policy setting "Delete temporary folders on exit" and have that set but it does not always do what its supposed to. For that reason I wish centrally administer a specific allocation of say, 15MB, and then disallow users to change it. I know I can turn off modification by using "Disable changing Temporary Internet files settings" but there doesn't seem to be a way to globally set the allocation limit. TIA

But I can share the local printer at TS Server 2003 when the client's OS is 32 bit Server 2003. What can I do to share XP's local printer at TS Server 2003. Please give me a solution. Thanks a lot

terminal server licensing issue
by Guest Joe Letter- 3 replies
I installed a win2k3 terminal server with 10 user cals, activated the server and installed the client licenses (I installed the ts license server on the ts server) . I did all this _outside_ our sbs2k3 domain. The server was working great. I then took the server and joined it to the domain. When I did this the server started telling me I have a license issue. Specifically: "No terminal sever license server was found on the network. This terminal server will stop issuing temporary licenses to clients 120 days...." What can I do to fix this? Thank you, Joe

I am running a terminal server and have a gpo in place. I have it set to delete cached roaming profiles. I have it set to keep only the windows install information for each user and this is stored on another drive. The problem is deleting the cached profiles was working and now it is not and I cannot figure out why. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it. Thanks -- Gary Story Network Analyst

2003 server can't see 2000 license server
by Guest dlw- 2 replies
My TS license server is a windows 2000 server, in the licensing manager, it says activated, and it issues licenses to users on it and another 2000 server. I now have a windows 20003 server, the grace period is up, and it won't issue licenses, says it can't find licensing server. When you go into TS Licensing on it, it shows the win2000 license server, but for activation status it says Unknown. Do I need new/different licenses for it?

cannot print to attached printers
by Guest Buddy- 0 replies
A recent power outage has resulted in the following problem for a client. All printers that are attached to PCs can print fine from the local PC, but when connecting to the terminal server, the printer shows up as the default printer for that session, but all print jobs fail to print. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printers. If I share the printer from the PC and then connect to it as a network printer (While in the terminal service session) I can print to it then. But no printing works through the terminal service session to the locally attached printer. Printing to other printers works fine. Retsrating the server has made no difference. Th…

Hello All - I am unclear on on the proper memory and profile settings for users on a Terminal server with 2-Quad core cpu's and 16GB of RAM. 32-but enterprise R2 Currently i have the PAE switch and userva=3030, also the users on the TS are not using the ts profile setting of there usernames. What are the correct profile settings? Why would a user need a second profile tab for there profiles? What are the correct memory settings? There are about 50 users, well on there way to about 75 by years end. Robert

Client's printers changing unexpectedly
by Guest Scott- 2 replies

Hello; Something odd is happening with some of my users. They have Remote Desktop Client to connect to TS on a 2k3R2 server. The server has 5 liscenses available, so they connect without a problem. The problem is when they connect, the terminal services has a problem with their printers. All the users have the same localy connected dell printers on their desktop. The drivers are installed on the server, and when someone logs in, it sets up the printer (e.g. Dell laserjet on session 2) for them perfectly. The problem is, if more than 2 people log in, the Terminal services removes the printers for the earlier sessions, swaping them with newer sessio…

Terminal Server Licensing Issue
by Guest DanC- 5 replies

I have setup a new TS for our sales staff and we purchased 15 Per-device Cals. I installed the licenses by first installing a batch of 10 and later adding 5 more. I noticed a few days later that each device that I use to connect to our terminal server using remote desktop takes one available license. I have remoted in personally from 3 machines and each machine took one license leaving me with 12 instead of 15 for our sales staff. I also noticed that our terminal server is taking one of the 15 licenses so that leaves me with 11. I was told that this problem might be caused by remoting into the terminal server with Windows XP but two if the machines that …

User not being logged off according to settings in AD..
by Guest Brad Pears- 1 reply

We are using a Windows 2003 (SP1) terminal server to support remote users etc.... Our domain controller is a Windows 2000 Small Bus Server. I do not have the "terminal services configuration" settinss configured at all on the actual terminal server itself - because we have different users with different requirements. Because of this I use the "Sessions' tab in each users AD profile to configure the disconnect times, active session limit etc... etc... However, for some reason, when a user either disconnects their session manually or gets disconnected for some other reason and never logs back on again, the session never gets logged out automatically afte…

Hey all The Licensing Server Service will not start because of low disk space. I get the error stating that the log file could not be created and so the service will not start. How do I change the log file location at service start up? I have already cleared as much disk space on the OS drive as possible but have plenty on other drives. Thanks.
