Can someone recommend a good chat solution that is compatible with Win 2003 sp2 terminal services in app mode? Is Trillian a good solution? Any horror stories/gotchas I should be aware of? I'm tasked with implementing this in the next week or so. No budget, other than my time, Nat. Thanks! -Paul

I have three terminal servers...one user can't change their background color, on one server. The same user can change it on the other servers. All servers are part of the same OU and subject to the same group policies. Other users on the server can change it. The display properties applet (desk.cpl) just doesn't display the background color drop down in the desktop tab. I've looked through the secpol.msc for a local setting, done a policy results query, reviewed ntfs permissions on the applet, and I can't come up with a thing that would cause this. Now this might not seem like an important issue particularly but when the color is set to an annoying o…

Can you please help resolve a loopback issue, my policy works but doesn't do the loopback element. I only want the policy to be applied when users logs into to Terminal server/Citrix servers OU but the policy is also being applied to their workstation. I have followed the recommendation from these Microsoft knowledgebase articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/231287 - Loopback processing of Group Policy http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260370 - How to apply Group Policy objects to Terminal Services servers http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278295 - How to lock down a Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2000 Terminal Server session I will create a simple lo…

Viewing Image Files is slow and choppy.

Good afternoon, I have a Proliant DL140 G3 server running Windows Server 2003 R2. The machine has 2GB of RAM installed. Users are noticing that viewing .tiff files and .pdf's is painfully slow and choppy. Would a RAM upgrade fix this? We are using Adobe Acrobat 8 to view ..pdf's and we're using the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to view .tiff files. Our main concern is getting the .tiff's to be viewed faster. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks very much! - MT

Win2k: Printer Matrix
by Guest arno- 3 replies
Hello, I always used http://www.printingsupport.com/matrix.htm to find compatible (Win2000!) drivers for new printers on my Win2k TS, according to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=239088 Now, I have a "Canon MP830 Series Printer" and the commonly used driver "Canon Bubble-Jet BJC-800" does not work. Does anyone know, where I can download the Printermatrix? Do you know a kompatible driver for the MP830? In the above mentioned KB-article there is a TS-Assistant, would that help? I do not have .Net 1.1 installed, so I cannot test. Does this program know "new" printers? regards arno

no longer able to remote in to server
by Guest duke- 6 replies
Windows Server 2003. Months ago when we got the server new, I was able to remote into it from my office. Cannot remember if I had to enable this on the server. Then I installed terminal server to try it out, and after playing around with it I took it back out because I was afraid it would cut me off from remote access after the trial ended. Now I can no longer remote in "The client could not connect to the remote computer". Is there something I have forgotten to reset?

New RDP Client
by Guest Jordan- 4 replies

There are about 50 -100 computers that I have to access with RDP. In the version that came with XP I could create 1 RDP file and save my Username, Password, and Domain and leave the computer name blank. This way when I needed to connect to a computer I could just enter the computer name. Is there a way to force this new version to do the following: 1. NEVER again prompt me for any computer past and present about connected devices, the clipboard, printers, etc? 2. Stop changing my saved usersname and password from: UserName - MySavedName Password - Domain - MyDomain to UserName - Current logged on name Password - Domain - Remote Computer N…

What's happening with my TS licensing??
by Guest lavagirl- 5 replies

OH, my, what a mess. I was having some performance issues with some of my clients connecting to the terminal server. So, I called Microsoft. To make a long story short, they uninstalled and reissued my licenses for me (after 2 hours on the phone). So, clean slate with the license manager, 50 licenses, none issued yet. So, I went to the computers to start connecting them to make sure they were getting the licenses, and very strange things are happening! First of all, some of them are being issued a license, but the license server shows the wrong computer name for the license! (ie: perhaps an old name for the computer? we changed around some compu…

IE access
by Guest Jeff- 3 replies

Hello, Is it possible to block internet access per-user on a 2003 TS? I need to block internet access for one user but not all. I was thinking there might be registry key to modify to set a Proxy server address, and this would take care of it since we have no proxy server. Perhaps I can do something with group policy. -- Thanks, Jeff

by Guest G. Gates- 1 reply

I have one user that has problems on occasion using remote desktop. More and more often these days when she logs on to the remote server she gets the following tw messages. The only way to allow her to get in again s to kick everyone off and reboot the server. "Windows can not load the locally stored profile. Possible casues o this error are insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile." and "Windows cannot find the local profile and will be logging you on with a temporary profile. Any changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off."

Hi, Some of my users received the messages below when they log on to a window 2003 terminal servers. But some don't. Why? "Windows cannot locate your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile. Changes to the profile will not be propagated to the server. DETAIL: Network path was not found. Spooler service runs but cannot open Printer folder
by Guest Jlittle78- 1 reply

I believe i had an incompatable printer driver installed which caused the entire spooler service to stop (Event ID 7031)(spooler service kept shutting down over and over again and restarting). I was able to restart the service, however no i cannot open the printers folder to see any printers, nor can any TS users see any printers. it appears even though windows says the service is running, it really isn't. When i stop the spooler service the printers folder will now pop open, but of course there are no printers that will display until i start the service. But when i start the service again the printers folder locks up and i cannot do anything. Is there …

input translation errors
by Guest BSigworth- 3 replies

I have 4 POS (point of sale) computers to our 2003 sp2 TS server. Each has a (USB) Magtek Mini Wedge MSR reader connected to it for credit card processing. The MSR readers emulate a keyboard as far as their input. When I scan a credit card with Notepad open I can read the input on screen. The problem is that in the Terminal Services environment I get translation errors when reading a credit card. Examples are; the case of some characters are changed (upper case instead of lower case or vice versa) also ? and / switch along with ^ and 6 (these mark beginning and end of data strings). Thanks, Bruce
