Licensing problem...
by Guest Mike- 7 replies

I have a win2k terminal server that XP Pro clients connect to. My DC is a Windows 2003 SBS & I had purchased 5 TS licenses. I had read somewhere that XP Pro clients connecting to a Win2k TS had built in licenses, so I really didn't need to buy the licenses. All that aside, my current problem is that every 3 or 4 months, some of the clients start getting the message that the connection couldn't be made because of an error in the licensing protocol, or something like that. I have always been able to talk the user through deleting the LICENSE000 key, which is a labor in itself, but I would like this fixed once and for all. Where do I start?!?!? -- The …

I have a W2K server setup with terminal services. The users have been using RDP with XP Professional and Vista Business for the past year, to connect to this server. We have a new machine (HP) that came with Vista Home Premium on it. The user has been using RDP to access the terminal server without any problems until a couple of weeks ago, they updated Vista and whenever they would access the TS, they would get a message that the TS License was going to expire in X number of days. The license has expired and I checked the TS event log and it reads "The Terminal Server cannot issue a client license." The Vista machine displays a message "The remote co…

Hi all, I've configured a shared folder in the usual way in order to use TS Profiles on my 2008 TS Farm. The profiles are getting created on my server just fine (they are appearing as [username.v2] ) However, I am unable to access these profiles using the administrator account (access denied). I have configured the permissions as per a 2003 TS implementation that works perfectly. Can anyone advice? Many thanks, Mike

Printer Issues
by Guest Freaky- 6 replies

Hey there, I've got a weird problem with a customer. This customer always had some printers mapped through terminal services, these always worked fine. A while ago they got a new printer, a HP LaserJet 2840. The strange thing is the old printers are still there (they're still installed on the computer and the terminal server still maps them thus), however on the new printer there is nothing. No log entries, no printer, nothing. The PCL6 driver (same version as client) is installed on the terminal. Normally I would suspect a message that it can not map the printer due to a missing driver, but there is no such message. To troubleshoot I threw away all printe…

Terminal Server Licensing Service in SBS2003 environment
by Guest Cary W. Shultz- 6 replies

Good afternoon! I have not ever done what we are going to do on Thursday so I want to make sure that I have my ducks in a row. We inherited this environment recently..... SBS2003 environment: single server, multiple physical locations. The SBS2003 Server is the only server in that forest. The previous consultant placed a TS (on a Domain Controller...eeh gads!) in another forest and created the identical user accounts on that TS box as exist in the SBS2003 domain. Well, we are going to wipe that TS Server, install WIN2003 SP2, join it to the SBS2003 Domain as a member server, install TS in application mode and then install the applications. M…

SQL 2005 on a Terminal Server?
by Guest bo_dong@yahoo.com- 6 replies

Can I install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition with Reporting Services and Analysis Services on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition with Terminal Services? I also installed IIS and volume lincensed Office 2007 on the terminal server. Then users can remote into the terminal server and interact with sql data using locally installed Access and consume sql reports using local website. When I turn off remote connection to the sql server, then the data is only accessible and visible to users who are in the remote session. Will this plan work? Anything special during install and setup? Thanks

Local Settings Folder within Roaming Profiles
by Guest lozza- 6 replies

Hey Guys, My dev setup: 2x TS Servers hooked into Session Directory. Load Balancing achieved via DNS Round Robin. Roaming User profiles being used and pointed to NAS device. Profile is stored on \\NAS\Profile\%UsernameOfEachUser% My Issue: I;ve been told to limit profiles to a max of 40MB. Desktop/Start Menu/Application Data/My Documents all redirected to their own folder on the NAS. i.e. \\NAS\RedirectedMyDocuments\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedDesktop\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedStartMenu\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedApplicationData\%username%.... This I believe prevents the size of these folder counting towards the profile size as these folder are no…

Multi-site Licensing question
by Guest APT SA- 6 replies

We have a multi-site environment with our Citrix-TS servers in the HQ site. We are planning on deploying a distributed TS application that would run in the remote sites. I wanted to put license servers in the remote sites so they would get their licenses in their own sites. This will be fine when connecting to distributed app in their site but will it affect their access when they connect to TS app in HQ office. In other words if you have TS and license server in site 1 and client and license server in site 2, if client connects to site 1 will it have to pull CAL over WAN and/or will it attempt to get a new license from license server in site 1 even th…

Terminal Server 2003. I have routing and remote access configured. I see the users connect to the server. But when I try to make a remote access connection back to their machine the entire connection including the client (remote) machine gets hung. I disconnect the session from the routing and remote access console, but the remote machine gets hung. The remote machine is running Vista SP1. The problem is only on this 1 remote access server (TermServer). My old TS running windows 2003 sp2 can make the connection fine. Any idea? I am trying to look through group policy to see if something is blocking this connection from working properly Thanks, SJM…

Hello, I want to install Terminal Server on an exsiting MS Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition File, Print, database, & web server. What I want to do is install QuickBooks and have users access QB via Terminal Server. 1. Can I install TS on this server without it effecting any of the other rolls of the server? 2. If so, can I configure the same server to be a licensing server as well. 3. Should I purchase per device or per user licenses? I'm thinking per device. Thank you, -- RAJ

TS Licensing Issues
by Guest Rosewood- 6 replies

I'm very green to TS and this is my first TS deployment. I thought everything was good to go. I added our 10 licenses as per user CALs since we have 6 users that may jump between 12 different computers. The CALs are installed and I thought everything was good to go since everyone was connecting w/o a problem. Today I was told they are getting a message when they login that their license expires in 4 days. So I went to the Terminal Service Licensing window. Sure enough it shows a bunch of Temporary Licenses issued and 10 User CALs available. So how do I get these user CALs tied to a specific user and get them off the temp licenses?

Rename server name with TS Licensing installed
by Guest Dylan- 6 replies

Hi, Is TS Licensing server tie to the host name? If I need to rename the server, do I need to call clearing house to re-activate the licenses? We have a TS Licensing server with 4000 XP complimentary CAL. I was going to build a new server and transfer the CAL to the new server. When I called MS clearing house, they said can't transfer comp CALs. There are some data on the this server that I'm moving to a new hardware but for those data to work, I need to keep the same host name for the server. Since I can't move the CALs, I'm hoping I can just rename the license server to release the host name for the new hardware. Will I break TS license serve…

When I connect to it via a single monitor client PC even using the last Remote Desktop client 6.0 I always have various problems in displaying the windows that are not on the central monitor of the server because these windows often remains out of the visible screen. Are there any programs that automatically manage this problem? I'm sure they exist but I don't know how to find them...

Winlogon.exe uses 100% CPU
by Guest Lasse- 6 replies

Hi We have a Server 2003 R2 SP2 with Terminal Services that's causing some problems. We have around 80 users using the server and each have a RDP connection that automatically starts a program on the server. Suddenly today the server more or less stopped responding and the only thing I could find was Winlogon.exe using 100% CPU time but I can't figure out WHY? I logged off all the users and then the problem disappeared. I suspect it might be our GPO logon script, but the only thing it does is check if you logon to the Terminal Server and then it runs the following line: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /Xs /y /n"Printername"

Saving Username and Password in Remote Desktop Client
by Guest Mike Schumann- 6 replies

I am trying to configure Windows Vista & XP laptops to easily connect to multiple different applications running on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. I have created multiple user accounts on the terminal server, each of which starts up a different application. On each laptop, I want to create a shortcut on the desktop for each application. To do this, I tried to save a separate connection (rdp) file with the username and password for each application. This does not work. It appears that the username and password is not saved in the connection file, but is somehow saved only once for the server. Is there any way to make this work????? -- Mike …
