Drive Redirection + Group Policies...
by Guest dt_moore@hotmail.com- 8 replies

Hi Guys, This is probably the dumbest question anyone has ever asked...but would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Right now we have a Win2003 Server (domain controller) which users connect to using Remote Desktop. I want to be able to enable drive redirection (show local drives) for admin users and disable the drive redirection for normal users. I have setup two group policies, one for Admins and another linked to a security group I defined, which all the normal users are members of. The "Do not allow drive redirection" policy is DISABLED in the admin policy and ENABLED in the normal users policy (so the two polices have con…

by Guest Eric- 10 replies

Hi All! I am new to Using Terminal Server and have a question about connecting a Dell 1720 to the local Wyse S90 ThinClient. I have everything running perfectly! All apps are running great and my remote location Wyse S90 Terminals are all connecting to my server via RDP beautifully. I am nearing the end of this installation and I need to add a few local printers to some of the Wyse S90 WinTerms. What are the necessary steps to take to add these local printers (Dell 1720) and will I be able to have these local printers be the default for those that will also have a network printer available? Thank you very much for any help you may be able to provide…

Access error in Terminal Server
by Guest CCripe- 1 reply

In an Access 2003 database, there is a macro that captures the user's environ name and inserts it in a field. To make this work, the user must go into Macro=>Security and set the security level to low. This works fine everywhere but TS. If you set the macro security to low on TS, the function works for a day or so, then it stops working and you get this error: "The expression you entered has a function name that (database name) can't find." If they go in and tell it AGAIN to set the macro security to low in Access, it will work for awhile and then stops. It doesn't seem to matter what rights the person has; Administrator, Power User, etc. All …

Group Policy TS User Home setting
by Guest Ragnar- 8 replies

Hi Is there a way using only Group Policy settings to configure multiple home directory shares when using the Computer Configuration setting "TS User Home"? The home directory is a top-level share with subfolder for each home directory. E.g. \\server\user share\%username%. I know it's possible to use variables for the "TS User Home" Group Policy setting and then use it together with Terminal Services Home Folder per user account, however I don't want to use any per-user account settings. Can't really see that this have changed with Windows Server 2008 either.. Thanks. /Ragnar

Prevent user internet access on terminal server
by Guest Martrad- 4 replies

Hi, We have a policy in place that populates the users proxy settings with the proxy server info and access to the internet is controlled by a proxy server using an "Internet Access" group. This works fine on the users desktops. When the users login to our terminal server the policy applies to their login and they are granted internet access on the terminal server. How can I stop them accessing the internet on the terminal server but still allow then access on their own PC?

Publicating a TS Farm in TS Web Access 2008
by Guest Ralph- 10 replies

Hello, Can we configure a TS Web Access to populate the Remote Apps of several TS ? We did not want to setup IIS on the TS and installed the TS Web App on a dedicated server. We published remote apps that point to a TS Farm but as it seems we cannot enter a TS Farm name in the TS Web App configuration I had to enter a specific TS in the configuration. When this specific is down no remote apps are listed in the TS Web Apps. So how can we manage to publish remote app that point to a TS Farm with the TS Web Access on a dedicated server ? Thank you, Ralph

I have a Windows 2003 Server that we use for development. The built in 2 user limit is becoming a problem, our developers are stepping on each other. I would like to increase to 4 users to be comfortable. The developers are usually in and out of there in a matter of minutes to configure something in IIS, copy a file, create a directory, etc. No heavy-duty apps are being run. Problem is when I go to Add/Remove Programs > Windows Components and select Terminal Server and Terminal Server License Manager, I am prompted with a warning that includes: "Program Installation: If you continue with this installation, programs that are already installed on…

Will TS connections stop in this scenario ?
by Guest Xavier- 2 replies

Hello, I have performed an audit for a potential customer. This is a small shop with 6 people and for some (unknown) reason, their current IT firm installed a Windows 2003 Server (SP2) as TS. This server is the only server in the house and acts as DC, file & print, etc... The company uses 2 laptops and 4 Wyse Winterminals. I checked the TS licencing configuration and here is what I found: 1. TS Lincencing service is installed on the server 2. TS Licence server is unactivated 3. TS is in user mode The current IT company that advised the customer might have wanted to save some TS licencing dollars. I have no idea when the server was installed and…

Local Settings Folder within Roaming Profiles
by Guest lozza- 6 replies

Hey Guys, My dev setup: 2x TS Servers hooked into Session Directory. Load Balancing achieved via DNS Round Robin. Roaming User profiles being used and pointed to NAS device. Profile is stored on \\NAS\Profile\%UsernameOfEachUser% My Issue: I;ve been told to limit profiles to a max of 40MB. Desktop/Start Menu/Application Data/My Documents all redirected to their own folder on the NAS. i.e. \\NAS\RedirectedMyDocuments\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedDesktop\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedStartMenu\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedApplicationData\%username%.... This I believe prevents the size of these folder counting towards the profile size as these folder are no…

We need to move our 2003 TS from a Windows 2000 domain to a Windows 2003 domain (with new server & domain name). The TS is in its own OU and has a Group Policy established for it. How do we leave this GPO intact when it gets moved? Thanks!

We have a Domain controller at a Corporate office that is Windows 2008. In satellite offices we have Windows 2003 TS's the aren't on the domain but part of a workgroup. We need the ability to connect up to 5 users to each satellite TS at a time. We bought 40 WIndows 2008 TS CALS, and are now thinking that we should have bought 8 five packs of Windows 2003 TS Cals instead. Is there any way to effectively and legally use the WIndows 2008 TS Cals for these 8 Windwos 2003 TS's that are remote on their own Workgroups? Can the 2008 DC handle licensing for these satellite workgroups? Is it a license vioation to use the 2008 TS Cals on 2003 TS servers?

They want Office 2003 (same version) on the terminal server. What must be done to keep in line with the proper licensing for Microsoft.

Hi, I'm just about to install my first Terminal Server to run SAP and have the following questions: 1. My disk is 120GB - what is the optimal partitioning scheme. It's a Dell box and is currently partitioned C= 12GB and D= 105GB. Is this Ok? 2. The OS is Server 2003. What happens when a client connects - do they see the application running under Server 2003 or do I need to install XP on the server for client sessions. 3. If a users saves from an application to the c driver, is this the actual server C drive or is it redirected somewhere. If the server C Drive how does this impact on partitoning scheme above. 4. When installing an application users to …

Win2K TS's can't connect to Win2k3 license server in remote subnet
by Guest Mizzleman- 9 replies

Hello, I have 3 Win2k TS's that can cannot connect to a Win2k3 license server in a remote subnet, same domain. It was working fine until yesterday. I have not changed anything on the servers. Some patches were installed on 7/13/2007. I have set the default license server registry key for the license server. I ran a protocol analyzer when I run the TS Licensing tool on the TS as it tries to find the license server. After looking throught the analysis, it shows the LDAP query and getting the license server info, but the TS still can't connect to it. What is going on? This is a major production outage so a quick response is appreciated. Thanks.

BUG: Text in Files with "unknown" extensions Associated with Wordpad do not search. Article 309173 is invalid.

BUG: Text in Files with "unknown" extensions Associated with Wordpad do not search. Article 309173 is invalid. I have found that if you associate a file with Wordpad, the text within a file search option doesn't work. It is necessary to associate them with Notepad for them to be searchable via the text within them, even if they are merely text files. I've followed the instructions explicitly in the Article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309173 and it doesn't work.

Hello, I use Remote Desktop Web connection with a fixed IP to allow access to a Windows 2003 server. Requests which come to port 3389 are forwarded to the Windows Server 2003 machine. I can access the server either using Remote Desktop or via the web site. I switched my ISP and obtained a new fixed IP and new router (Linksys WRT54G). I set up forwarding once again. However, when I try to access the server via remote desktop web connection I received the following error: "VBScript: Remote Session Disconnected The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accepty new …

Hello all -- I have a Windows 2008 Std installation with Terminal Services installed. The server is a member server of an Active Directory domain. I initially installed and used the Terminal Server on the 2008 machine during the trial period. I setup Remote Apps and had copied the .rdp files to my local workstation. Everything was working fine and life was good. I really enjoy the RemoteApp feature. I later activated Windows and soon thereafter ran VMware's CONVERT to P2V the machine to an ESX 3.5 host. No issues here. When I logged into the machine for the first time under ESX, it deteched that the hardware had changed and I needed to re-ac…

Home directiories and folder redirection
by Guest Phil- 6 replies

hope someone can enlighten me here as i'm quite new to Terminal servers Is rootdrv2.cmd still valid in Citrix. If so do you still have to set it on every TS. I thought that TS home drive Group policy setting would now be the preferred opion. Leading on with the next question If users have their home drives mapped in ADUC say to H drive, is there a point in setting up TS home drive as the users would surely have 2 locations to keep their documents in??. My take is if they used pure TS then use the TS home drive If I mixture of 2 then Bothe ADUC home drives and TS Home drives but redirect theTS Home drive to the Users Home Directory Finally AppDa…

folder redirection and doubing up of folders in user folder
by Guest anthonyx26- 1 reply

Server: TS Windows Server 2008 I set GPOs for folder redirection but when the user logs in and opens up his user folder, it shows all the folders in double. E.g., there are two "documents" folders. One has the regular folder look (it points to c:\users\%username%\documents) and the other has the green windows standard folder...and it points to the redirected folder location on the network (ie \\server\redirects\%username%\documents). I've added a "rmdir" to the login script to automatically delete the local C: drive fodlers, but it seems odd that I should have to do this. Is there a more official way to make this happen without resorting to my "dele…
