I have a 2003 Small Business Server R2. With a 2003 R2 standard member server. The member server is configured with Terminal Server and the TS Licensing server. I have an 8 cal pack all ready interred. The Remote Desktop Users group had the rights to login into Terminal Server. I cannot get any of my users to login to the server through TS unless they are part of the administrators group. Can someone tell me how to get around this? Thank You Jim

Terminal Services SUBST mapping by default
by Guest prosbloom@gmail.com- 2 replies
Hello, I have a terminal server with around 25 users connecting. The problem we are having is windows is mapping the W: drive by default for every user to the users home directory. It is not a net use mapping, but rather a subst map. We have to map the W: drive to a different place because some of our software is hardcoded to use the W: drive. There is no group policy in place and no login scripts running that would be forcing this drive map. Any ideas where or why windows would be mapping this drive?

Close program but TS session continues to run
by Guest paulc- 4 replies

W2K3 TS and XP/W2K clients I have configured some RDPconnections to the server to automatically run upon connection. Basically, I don't want the users to have any interaction with the TS other than running the program. However, the only issue I have is that if the user closes out of the program too soon (> 2min or so), the TS session continues to run. When that happens, if they log back into TS they are presented with a blank screen since, apparently, the TS thinks the prg is still running when in fact it isn't. Other than setting the disconnect timeout to a very small number like 1 minute, is there anything else I can do?

Possible to change network ports used by terminal services licensi
by Guest Aidan-Eire- 1 reply
Hi, I have a bit of a dilemma. Due to firewalls between terminal server and licensing server I need to open up ports to allow this traffic. Howerver our security policy won't allow this as required ports are too unsecure... port 135 445 and 1025-65000,. Can anybody please tell me if there is a way yo change these ports and ideally tie down all the traffic to one assigned port?? Thanks for any replies!, Aidan.

Printing rights problem
by Guest BSigworth- 0 replies

I have a printer connected locally to our 2003 sp2 TS server that will only print if the user is a member of Administrators Group. There are several other printers configured on the server which work fine with only the user belonging to Remote Desktop Users Group, as we would like. I tried making users a member of Power Users Group, granting rights to, or removing restrictions on printing services with no success. The printer is a Zebra P330i (card printer). It installs as a local printer using a standard TCP/IP port. And just to keep things interesting the application that uses the printer, finds it by it's name, which must be set to “cardprinte…

by Guest Mat Powell- 5 replies

Hi, When the Administrator connects to the TS on Server 2003 (Standard), Copy and Paste to my local machine is fine. When anyone else Connects the same way the Copy function just hangs forever and you can never copy. Our other remote site works in the same way without a problem. (Still looking for the different setting(s). The RDC "Disk Drives" setting is crossed also. I feel it may be a rights thing but cannot find it, any ideas? Some facts: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. TS License installed The remote site is actually on the same lan, ie: Technically Local, the other site that works is really remote. All applications etc work ok via the …

Migrating User Profiles - Windows 2003 Server / TS
by Guest Mike- 0 replies

Ok, we have a client that currently has two terminal servers. ATL-TS-01 and ATL-TS-02 ATL-TS-01 is the terminal server when 100% of the daily users (say up to 28) connect when working remotely. ATL-TS-02 is for a handful of users to use for a single application (think compliance or HR). Now here is a kicker. The handful of users that connect to ATL-TS-02 will also connect to ATL-TS-01. Their profiles are not roaming, so they have one profile with all the applications that have been installed on ATL-TS-01 etc, and their profiles on ATL-TS-02 also have local profiles with a few custom applications available to them. Also items like Office or Adobe a…

newbie TS license ?
by Guest Don Cooper- 1 reply

I was reading the paperwork on the TS server and was curious about a few things. The TS invoice showed the Microsoft part number as R19-00846, however the "Microsoft Open License Order Confirmation" that came with it showed MS part no. as R19-00145. 5 copies, License prg -Open. Issue date of this license agreement 11-06, Last Date for repeat orders/End of Maint Coverage 11-08. Does this mean the licenses will expire on 11-08 and have to be renewed? Product Description: Windows Terminal SVR CAL Win English OPL NL User CAL When we increase the number of users from 5 to 10 can we just buy the R19-00145 ? thanks

Remote Control Message
by Guest DMI- 2 replies

Our company has a line and uses 10 WYSE terminals. The terminals connects to our Terminal Server and runs the program it needs to accomplished the task. No input devices are connected to the terminals. Some times we have an issue with one of the units and we are forced to drive to the location to find out what the problem is. When I use the Terminal Services Manager I am able to connect to the session in question - for example the RDP-Tcp#242. When I right click on top of the RDP and select remote control the system prompts the Remote control request at the physical terminal asking for the user input and requesting the a user entry for administratio…

Multi-site Licensing question
by Guest APT SA- 6 replies

We have a multi-site environment with our Citrix-TS servers in the HQ site. We are planning on deploying a distributed TS application that would run in the remote sites. I wanted to put license servers in the remote sites so they would get their licenses in their own sites. This will be fine when connecting to distributed app in their site but will it affect their access when they connect to TS app in HQ office. In other words if you have TS and license server in site 1 and client and license server in site 2, if client connects to site 1 will it have to pull CAL over WAN and/or will it attempt to get a new license from license server in site 1 even th…

TS licensing mode...user/device??? temp licenses?

I need to purchase additional TS licenses. I had previously installed 5 TS per-user licenses, and I had put TS into per user licensing mode, but as you can see from the following graphic, TS still does not want issue non-temporary licenses. http://71.232.122.144/tmp/ts1.jpg Any ideas why it won't issue non-temp licenses? Users still seem to be able to login ok. Not sure what's going on. anthony

Setting up a new Terminal Server farm with NLB and Session Directo
by Guest JK in Nebraska- 5 replies

I am attempting to setup a Terminal Server farm with NLB and Session Directory for load balancing. I have been looking through Microsofts TechNet articles etc. but am not making much progress in getting things to work properly. I'm sure I'm skipping a step or doing steps out of order. Does anyone know of a single resource that goes through the whole process? I have three new servers with Server 2003 Enterprise on each. All servers have two NICs (all identical). All servers will be on the same subnet.

Time to stop buying thin client devices?
by Guest Rob Nicholson- 2 replies
We're running Windows 2003 Server with terminal services and Citrix Presentation Server 3, although about to upgrade to 4.5. It's becoming increasingly difficult to defend our existing thin client devices (Wyse S10s) for a variety of reasons. I'm very tempted to stop our purchase of Wyse terminals, at least the S10s because: a) Lack of USB pen drive support b) poor graphic performance c) inability to play some media format files d) much higher power PCs for a very similar price e) looking to the future and how virtualisation/SBE may change At the moment, users have to logon to a PC in the office to transfer files. This is an annoyance and as we all …

I'm replacing a W2K Terminal server that supports many RDP connections -- with a W2K3 Terminal server. 1st of all - how do I determine the number of TS licenses that are currently allowed on the W2K server? Then can I "upgrade" these licenses to W2K3 CALs -- or just purchase new?
