by Guest STFW- 3 replies

I want to run the "terminal services manager" that I see on my 2003 machines, but in a snap-in on my mmc console on my xp machine. I can't seem to find a download for this. I want to log off admins that are forgetting to log off and instead just disconnect. Is there a way to set an autologoff after so much time of inactivity? TIA.

How to remove an old Terminal Server License server?
by Guest Rik- 1 reply
Our old Windows Server 2003 terminal server is at end of life. It was also our Terminal Server License server. We installed a new Windows Server 2003 terminal server, and configured a new Terminal Server License server on this new system. Activating the Terminal Server Licensing server and the TS CAL's worked fine. We also deactivated the old terminal server license server. When the old server is down and we startup Terminal Server Licensing on the new server, the new server is still looking for the old server (Finding servers... is taking about half a minute). When a client computer tries to connect to the new server, the same timeout occurs before t…

Running Terminal Server Farm on Virtual Server
by Guest Don- 1 reply

I was wondering if anyone could point me to information or give their thoughts regarding "virtualizing" a Terminal Server 2003 farm onto a x64 Windows Virtual Server 2005R2 box. Currently we have (7) 32-bit TS2k3 servers in WLB cluster with about 300 terminals. The servers are on separate physical boxes. I'd like to consolidate those onto 1 or 2 64bit VS05R2 machines with lots of memory. -- Thanks, Don

W2k TS & XP Rdp

I have a windows 2000 Terminal Server in a WinNT4 domain. Licensing is running on the TS. I am establishing a VPN connection from my laptop (not a domain member) to the network using a SonicWALL TZ-170 and the SW Global VPN client. I can connect to another W2K server running in Remote Admin mode, but I can't connect to the TS running in Application Mode. All I get in the Event Log is a 1004 "The terminal server cannot issue a client license." event. Once logged on to the server running Remote Admin mode, I can log on to the Application Server. Any clues? Thx, Ken

Terminal server and W2K3 Server licenses
by Guest GotNoIdea- 4 replies

OK I need to get this straight as I have heard all kinds of explainations and comments. I'm looking into setting up a W2K3 Standard server for a potential that will also be used as a Citrix server. The amount of clients and user accounts is undetermined at the moment. I know for example if I'm going to have say 50 users accessing this server that I will need 50 W2K3 user cal's as this server will also be a DC. Now my question is do I also need terminal server licenses? My coworker seems to disagree that we need them. He claims that since XP comes with the TS client (RDC) that it is no longer required. We have our own W2K3/Citrix server that is a terminal serve…

Upgraded RDP clients on affected computers without any luck. Nothing shows on the error logs of the server. Error/Response is "This computer can't connect to the remote computer."

Remote Desktop Users Group Not Allowing TS Connection
by Guest Colleen- 1 reply

I have installed 7 TS user licenses and have the Domain Controller set up as the licensed terminal server. Members of the admin group can TS to the machine, but the users added to the built-in RDU group cannot. I am getting the message:To log on this remote computer, you must be granted the Allow Log on through Terminal Services rigtht. By default , members of the Remote Desktop .... " - the same one Rene in her thread was getting. Because the terminal server is a Domain Controller, I cannot give 'local' access to the machine, nor is it available in Computer Management in order to do the access manually. I manually added the RDU Group into the Domain …

2003 Server Standard edition with SP2
by Guest Madison- 1 reply

I arrived at a customer site today to enable their server as a TS license server. It is 2003 standard edition SP2 on a WORKGROUP. When I go to TS license manager, auto discovery finds not TS license servers. I goto the Actions menu and select Activate Server, nothing happens. No other windows open, that is the area where you would put the license key in. I have done many times in a domain environment. Is the fact that this server is not on a domain keeping me from making it a TS license server? Thanks in advance, Madison

Hi, We are running terminal services on a windows 2003 member server, with windows server 2003 r2 on our domain controller.
