Processor utilization on Multi Processor Servers
by Guest Riaan de Bruyn- 0 replies

Hi All I've noticed that processes which would normally fully utilizes processors like winzip or winrar etc. only utilizes the capacity of one (1) CPU in a Multi Processor environment via Terminal Services. If you log on to the console of a Terminal Services server, the process will use all CPU's to almost 100% utilization. But through a terminal services session it seems to be limited to use only one CPU. Is this by design or is there a workaround / configuration to all a single process to use more CPU power if available in terminal services? Kind Regards

This seems to be a common theme on this forum...I have a question that I cannot find the answer for. I have a user that is printing to a Brother DCP-1200 this driver is standard in the TS package. Whenever the user prints to the printer she can print 5 or 6 pages and then the server throws this error in the event viewer: The document https://safesite.safeco.com/commercial/Auto/viewsummary.aspx?Co owned by ckelley failed to print on printer Brother DCP-1200 (from WT0080646169f4) in session 7. Remote print services
by Guest sgavriel- 0 replies

In our environment we have a terminal server farm with 5 application servers. The client workstations remotely connect to any of the 5 servers in order to use the remote application and also print through it. By installing the printers' drivers both at the client workstations and at the terminal servers, users are able to print through the remote application to their local printer (a session of their printers is being created on the terminal server). Now the requirement is to be able to pass a Comment of the printer when its session is created on the remote server. So far this was managed to be done only by the administrator if the comment is setup …

Terminal services failing to open Actinic v8 on windows 2000
by Guest Gordon- 0 replies
Our company recently upgraded to actinic v8 e-commerce software. I installed the software on our server (logged in as admin), then created a login for my ts connection. It worked fine for about 1 week, but now fails each time I try and load it. It displays the actinic splash page, then drops the ts client with no error message. Its as if the actinic software is already running on the server, but its not. I can access no problem, using vnc, and fine if I log on directly to the server, but not TS. We ran earlier actinic software in the same way, and its fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Migrating User Profiles - Windows 2003 Server / TS
by Guest Mike- 0 replies

Ok, we have a client that currently has two terminal servers. ATL-TS-01 and ATL-TS-02 ATL-TS-01 is the terminal server when 100% of the daily users (say up to 28) connect when working remotely. ATL-TS-02 is for a handful of users to use for a single application (think compliance or HR). Now here is a kicker. The handful of users that connect to ATL-TS-02 will also connect to ATL-TS-01. Their profiles are not roaming, so they have one profile with all the applications that have been installed on ATL-TS-01 etc, and their profiles on ATL-TS-02 also have local profiles with a few custom applications available to them. Also items like Office or Adobe a…

Sluggish application for one user until I reboot TS
by Guest Al Williams- 0 replies

Server 2003 Standard TS, SP2, all patches. We had a situation the other day where one TS user was unable to run a particular (older) application effectively - it was very slow to load and pretty much unusable. Other TS users had no issues with this same app, just this particular user and logging out and then back into the TS did not help. I monitored the program in question with Process Explorer and all I saw was a long "wait.executive" pauses in various DLL's the program uses -- I checked another TS user but didn't see those pauses. In the end I rebooted the terminal server and the one users issue went away. What I can't figure out is why, it seems t…

Java plugin not available to all TS users.
by Guest JK in Nebraska- 0 replies

I have a simple terminal server farm utilizing NLB. Three identical servers running server 2003 X64, and IE7. I have installed the Java add-in for IE on all of the servers but it is not available to all users who log-in to the terminal servers. It doesn't seem to be a security issue as users with identical domain group memberships and local security settings get different results. The users that don't have the add-in available do not get prompted to load it. How do I make this add-in available to all users?

Can't start program at login for a particular
by Guest James Trogdon- 0 replies

I have a Windows 2003 R2 server that is running as a terminal server. I'm not running AD so I'm using the local user setup. I have my users setup on their Environment tab to "Start the following program at login". This works great for all users except one. The program doesn't run at all and he gets just the desktop. I even changed the program to run to c:\windows\notepad.exe as a test but it didn't even run that. Where can I look to find out what is stopping this user from running a program at login for the terminal server? Thanks for the help. James Trogdon

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -= my response to the harassment. -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- My first reaction in 1990/91 was to assume. that if I broke contact then they would not be able to follow and would lose. interest. So I did the things that have. been suggested by other people; I sold my television, stopped listening to the radio and. tried to withdraw away from the sources of abuse as much as possible. I. reasoned that they must have more important things to. deal with and that normal people would simply leave me alone if it were made difficult. for them to continue their harassment. Excel 2003 rdp screen resolution
by Guest striep- 0 replies

Hi Group, we have computres working under Windows XP with dual sreen setup at a resolution of 2560x1024. Creating a button or label in Excel 2003 looks OK. But when connecting to that computer via mstsc (RDP 6) with same resolution the font on the button or label get messed up. It changes to a fairly large font with a negativ letterspacing and is so unreadable. Same thiing happens when connecting to a TS with that resolution or even with a dualscreen setup at 2048x768. Anyone seen this before? The computers are fully patched and use rdp 6. Regards Stefan

by Guest Gabrielm- 0 replies

Currently, I have a group of 2k3 TS servers loading locked down, read only desktops via folder redirection of the desktop and start menu via GPOs. In the process of testing a 2k8 TS, I have stumbled onto an issue where after the user initially logs into the 2k8 TS and successfully gets their respective restricted desktop, any changes to the folder redirection locations in the GPO will fail with the following error. “The following error occurred: Folder cannot move because there is non redirectable folder at the same path. Error details: Access is denied.” And the user will retain the original folder redirection setting in the old GPO. The same user on the…

Monitor TSadmin
by Guest Richie- 0 replies

Hi all! I wish to monitor the usage of TSadmin, particularly the use of shadowing terminal server sessions in 2003 server. I found an article which shown explained to have terminal services write event log entries to the security log when ever a shadow (remote control in TSadmin) was started and ended but this was related to windows server 2000 and doesn't work for 2003. I want an event log entry added when ever a session is shadowed and when the shadow is ended. Here is the windows 2000 KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893368. Any help any one could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Multiple IE processes on terminal server

I have Outlook 2007 and IE7 running on a W2K3 terminal server (in execute mode). Here is the specific problem I have: there is a link to a website that requires a login in the e-mail. I click on the link in the e-mail and I am taken to the correct site and prompted for log in. After logging in, I am redirected to the content referenced from the link in the e-mail. In the same message, I click on another link that should take me to different content on the same site, opened in a new tab. However, a new iexplore process is started and I am once again prompted to log in. After logging in again I am redirected to the correct content. How can I keep fro…

VPN + RDC = NO GO? SBS 2k3?
by Guest Ryan- 0 replies

I'm in the middle of converting our SBS 4.5 (NT4) server to a 2k3 server. We're currently using some Cisco hardware to VPN to the office, and then remote desktop to a workstation by hostname. This works fine with NT4. If I change my workstation to the new domain I can log in once. Then if I try to log again later I get a message that I do not have access to logon to the session. I'm trying to figure out what's going on here? Is this something to do with terminal server licensing on 2003? It seems a bit odd that I'd be affected by this since I am using some VPN hardware rather than the tsweb on the 2003 default webpage to connect to our workstations. C…

TS not updating key for roaming profile
by Guest ChrisInRIC- 0 replies

Has anyone else seen where a terminal server is not updating the following key appropriately: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\WFProfilePath We were migrating the file server to a new platform. The Profiles share was moved to a new server. Each users TS Profile path was updated in AD. The two controllers (both local) were synch'd. But the three Terminal Servers would not look to the new server. Found that key was still pointing at the old server. We manually edited the key, but does anyone have an idea as to how it should have worked? And why it might have failed? Thanks, Chris

Processor Scheduling and Memory Usage
by Guest Rodney Middleton- 0 replies

Running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 in Terminal Services App mode. Before Term Services was installed, Processor Scheduling was set to Background Services and Memory Usage was set to System cache. After Term Services App mode installed and rebooted, Processor scheduling was automatically changed to Programs and Memory usage left at System cache. Is this the proper configuration for a Terminal Server? I ran across this post which contradicts the above setting: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services/browse_frm/thread/2d7b7ff42155d139/c5578738bbfdb847?lnk=st&q=terminal+services+%22processor+scheduling%22#c5578738bbfdb847
