MS Document Image Writer not working
by Guest Mike- 2 replies

Hi folks, I have one user on TS using Office 2003 and she prints files periodically to the MS Document Image Writer driver that is installed with Office 2003. I think the way it works is that you select that driver to print to, and it will pop us a 2nd screen with a preview of the image and you can then print or save the file. She actually uses it to save the file. This has stopped working for her since Friday, the 2nd screen never comes up, when you hit "save" on the "save as" screen, it just goes away and doesn't save. Any ideas? The only thing that changed recently was a couple of Windows updates over the weekend. I will go see if I can find o…

What is the function/purpose of the Terminal Services\Sysprocs registry entry?
by Guest Bruce Sanderson- 3 replies

We're using Office XP SP3 in Windows Server 2003 SP1 Terminal Services/Citrix Presentation Server Version 4 on 26 Terminal Servers. We're using Terminal Services Roaming Profiles specified by a GPO. We're having a performance problem for some users of Office and ctfmon.exe has be fingered as the culprit. We're currently experimenting with a logon script to set the per user registry entries as specified in the "Additional Steps for Terminal Server Environments" section in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326526. Although the logon script appears to be working correctly, we're finding that something is starting ctfmon.exe anyway for some users and th…

BUG: Text in Files with "unknown" extensions Associated with Wordpad do not search. Article 309173 is invalid.

BUG: Text in Files with "unknown" extensions Associated with Wordpad do not search. Article 309173 is invalid. I have found that if you associate a file with Wordpad, the text within a file search option doesn't work. It is necessary to associate them with Notepad for them to be searchable via the text within them, even if they are merely text files. I've followed the instructions explicitly in the Article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309173 and it doesn't work.

Reason for (local) profile corruption?
by Guest robert.waters- 1 reply

I administer a 2003 TS with about 10 active users having user profiles local to the server; every so often, a user's profile will become corrupted. Why might this happen? Could logging in from machine A (laptop), disconnecting (no logoff), then logging in with machine B (desktop) cause this (users have exhibited this behavior)? (Note - I have the UPHClean service installed) Actually, I am not even 100% sure that the root problem profile corruption; however, deleting and recreating the user profile fixes the problem (which is: a blank blue screen after connecting, with a 2nd userinit.exe process consuming a huge amount of cpu resources - *sometimes*, after a…

Prevent user internet access on terminal server
by Guest Martrad- 4 replies

Hi, We have a policy in place that populates the users proxy settings with the proxy server info and access to the internet is controlled by a proxy server using an "Internet Access" group. This works fine on the users desktops. When the users login to our terminal server the policy applies to their login and they are granted internet access on the terminal server. How can I stop them accessing the internet on the terminal server but still allow then access on their own PC?

Client can't modify local Internet Options
by Guest azevon- 7 replies

Greetings All, I'm running a Windows 2003SP2 TS server with Citrix Meteframe 3.0. In the past, I have successfully added users (using computer management\local users & groups) and then added them into the group "Remote Desktop Users" Then I have successfully logged onto this server via a citrix client (or TS client), and modified that user"s Internet Option Security tab (my goal is to add my local UNC paths into trusted local intranet sites). Butr suddenly, when I add a new user onto the server (and give them the same rights as old users), when I log on as that user remotely, the icons in the IE Security tab are grayed out, with grayed locked k…

Terminal Services and Windows Datacenter Server 2003
by Guest jim- 4 replies

I would like to host an application (combination of TS and Citrix) on a machine with 32 CPU's and 128GB of Physical RAM using Windows Data Center 2003., I know I have to use SPLA for TS Licensing, but now I'm being told I cannot use Datacenter because it is for anonymous not authenticated access. How than, do I scale to 32 processors and 128GB of RAM ? Can I get some Datacenter Licensing clarity here please ?

Post transferred from http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general Let's say I got 5 Terminal Servers in a single domain and all my users are being distributed over these 5 servers when they log on. User JaneDoe ends up on server 1 on Monday and goes on the internet and stores some data from the forms she filled out. At the end of the day she logs of and on Tuesday she logs in again, being diverted to server 3. When she visits the exact same site (which, for matter of troubleshooting is only being server by one webserver), her stored data is gone and IE7 doesn't give her the option to fill ou…

All I want to do is set a group policy which allows members of an existing security group to log on via RDP without me having to make them members of the local "remote desktop users" group. The group policy "Allow log on through Terminal Services" " looks like it should do the job, but I have never managed to get it to work. can someone give me some pointers? regards roga

Hi eveybody, Before, we used to have a windows 2000 as our domain controller and it was the terminal server too, and we can RDC to this server. Then, we got a new server, installed win 2003 server 'migrated' our 2000 domain to a 2003 domain and right now they are co-existing. We did this because we need to move our application from the win 2000 server to the new 2003 server. Right now users are connecting to the 2000 server using using terminal server without any problems. I have already installed terminal server and its licenses on the new win 2003 server but when i try to connect using RDC i'm getting the error: "To log on this remote computer, you mu…

Trouble with TS on Server 2003
by Guest Andy \(Andrew\)- 3 replies

We have a Server 2003 machine that was put into Application mode. After that, we installed a few programs using the Control Panel's Add/Remove procedure (presumably placing it temporarily into "install" mode) and we've discovered some intractable problems. For example, one of the applications is Time Matters. Among other things, it keeps track of documents. If one user opens one of these PDF's from within Time Matters, it properly opens Acrobat Reader (which was also installed in "install" mode) and the document is displayed. However, if another user tries the same thing (not at the same time,) they get an AcroRd32 crash saying "memory cannot be written." …

Allowing more than 2 connections to 2003 R2 box
by Guest Mike- 3 replies

Hi I am currently allowing external users to run applications remotely on a 2k3 r2 server via VPN and RDP. The 2 users rule is becoming a problem as there are more people who need to connect than that. The applications that are used (I have been advised by the developers) do not and are not ever likely to be compatibly with application mode. Is it possible to extend the amount of people who are able to connect to the TS in admin mode by purchasing licenses for them? Many Thanks

Assigning virtual IPs per user

Hi, I know this can be done on Citrix, but I need to do it on native Terminal Server. It is it possible to have a pool of addresses that are assigned to Windows Terminal Server users so that when they launch client/server apps they use a unique IP address. For example, server has a bunch of addresses bound to it's interface 10.1.1.1 10.1.1.2 10.1.1.3 10.1.1.4 10.1.1.5 10.1.1.6 10.1.1.7 10.1.1.8 10.1.1.9 Remote user #1 logs in and when they open a browser connection to server another server, their source ip address for that connection is 10.1.1.1 Remote user #2 logs in and when they open a browser connection to server another server, their source…
