Save Password in RDC icon and give to mulit users
by Guest Ferrell Ramey- 1 reply

I'd like to create a RDC icon that has the user name, password, and settings all saved in it and copy it to multiple user desktops, but when I do this and the user clicks on the icon it asks for their password. Any ideas? Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way? All users log into the terminal server with the exact same settings (e.g. user name, password, etc). I'd just like to push an icon to each of their desktops instead of going to each workstaion and creating it. By the way, is there a way to change the icon when you do a "save as" on the settings? It by default has the regular RDC icon, and in the properties I don't see the "change icon" set…

Access report to pdf using SQL Server ad Terminal Services
by Guest Gina Whipp- 0 replies

It was suggested by the 'creator' I post this question here to see if anyone has run across this issue and found a solution... Hello All, Maybe someone has come across this problem before. I have been using Stephen Lebans ReportToPDF for sometime now and LOVE IT (Thanks Stephen!!!). I have an Access database, tables on SQL Server and front being accessed thru Terminal Services with an HP LaserJet 4 printer. When I send the report to .pdf the font changes from Times New Roman to Arial! The .snp is in Times New Roman, so my thought is it's not the utility or Access and I just want a confirmation and to know if anyone has run into this problem and has a sug…

RDP 6 logon problem
by Guest Jeff- 2 replies
Whenever my TS users logon to a server it fails due to the server login is automatically populating the Domain drop-down to the local machine. Then after the timeout period and a failed logon attempt they can change the Domain to our domain and then they can successfully login. It only happens when they login to my terminal server nodes (since RDP 6 won't connect to my virtual farm name, separate posting in this forum). Where do i force the logon to authenticate to domain login and stop the default local logon to the server? i am fairly new to this environment and not sure what policy to set to force logon to the domain.

Hi, I got a few questions regarding TS and how to configure the following; I've configured each of our remote users using the RDP 6 client - it launches our custom datebase application when then login. Anyways, I've configured the group policies to - Keep-Alive the connection -Enabled (no one likes to login in if they are inactive for a while) - Automatic reconnection -Enabled (reconnect if they loose connectivity) - Restrict Terminal server users to a single remote session - Enabled That all works well, the issues I'm facing are people are shutting down the session (using the x in the yellow bar) but the application is still running. When they at…

Clients Local Printer Not Printing
by Guest Golforfood- 5 replies
I have a Windows 2003 Server R2 running and I have a client who uses Remote Desktop to login. The client can't print to their local printer. I am using Terminal Services. The just purchases a new printer which is an HP Laserjet 3055 All in One. I read a knowledgebase article on Microsoft's web site (Article ID 302361) that says Printers that use ports that do not begin with Com, Lpt, or USB are not redirected in a Remote Desktop or Terminal Services Session. I have made the registry changes on the clients computer and also changed the port from DOT$ to LPT. I still can't print. Is there anything else I can do? I have spent a week on this and the cl…

They want Office 2003 (same version) on the terminal server. What must be done to keep in line with the proper licensing for Microsoft.

migrate local user profiles to a new terminal server session
by Guest Jorge R- 5 replies
We are in the process of deploying a new terminal server, the challenge is to migrate the user profile from the local workstations to the terminal server user profiles, to minimize changes in the user community. There was no terminal server before, so the user profiles all are on the local machines running either Windows XP SP2 or Windows 2000 Pro SP4. The domain is a Windows 2003 Active directory. Any help on how to automate this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I'm studying an high availbility solution for my terminal server environment, and I found documentations on NLB and Session directory, and I have some questions: 1) can I host session directory on one of my terminal server cluster node? 2) is session directory cluster aware? 3) does NLB and / or session direcotory require a Domain controller (and if yes, can it be hosted by one NLB node?) thanks

Question: We have a TS licensing server & TS server in our west coast forest and would like to add a TS to our east coast forest. Do we need a seperate licensing server in the east coast forest or should we be able to use our current west coast licensing server? Both forest are AD and there is a trust relationship. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Vista and 2003 TS administration mode
by Guest Jorge Almeida- 1 reply

I have this strange problem in a laptop running Windows Vista: when I try to connecto the DC running SBS2003, I get an error saying that I already have an active session running on the server and that I cannot open another. I started by rebooting the server and tried again to repeat the sequence, but the error message persists. Now, here's the strage part: I can connect to a member server running W2k3 Std by rdp client and, from there, to the DC running SBS2003... Any sugestions?

New Terminal Server Components
by Guest Mark R.- 3 replies

I am looking to purchase a new server dedicated to terminal services. It has an Intel 5300 family quad core processor and 8 GB of RAM. It will be in a Raid 1 or 5 setup with 15K RPM drives. The remote connection count will be between 40 and 50 users that will only run a business software app. There will be no email or internet surfing while in their sessions. The connection will be a remote site connected via a point to point circuit. There will be a need to redirect printers. The printers will be HP Jet directs. Will this be a problem for the remote users to redirect back to their local network printers that are attached to the LAN? Do you think 40 to 50 …

by Guest Adrian- 2 replies

I am trying to remotely control a Windows XP (SP2) using Terminal Services Manager from a Windows 2003 server. Although I can see the PC in Terminal Services Manager I get a message saying 'You could not be authentificated on this server'. I have changed the DWord for TSAdvertise and TSEnabled to 1, switched off the firewall and added myself to the local group of Remote Users. I can connect to it using the RDP client. We have 3 other XP machines that we can connect to via the Terminal Services Manager with no problem. Any advice most welcome. Adrian

Where are my Terminal Servers getting their licenses?
by Guest mleeser1@gmail.com- 4 replies
We have six 2003 SP1 terminal servers running the exact same config (installed from same image). When I run the TS licensing app on any of the servers it comes up looking for license server "dolphin" which is a server that has been shutdown and retired for about 5 months. In the TS configuration app it has server dolphin configured as the only license server. The question is, how are users still able to connect to these servers without any licensing problems? There are currently 20 - 50 users on each server and they have been working this way for 5 months without any issues. I want to get our licenses installed on a new server but I'm worried about breakin…

Vista, 2003 Terminal and printing
by Guest Freaky- 1 reply

Hey there, we're having issues with Windows Vista and printing from terminal server. This works fine when using WindowsXP. We have the issue with multiple printers. For example the Brother HL-2030. The Brother HL-2030 works fine with 2000/XP/2003 over terminal, but not with Vista, in the system logs there are also entries that a driver for Brother HL-2030 could not be found. According to the helpdesk this probably has to do with the different driver model for Vista. For 2000/XP/2003 the drivers are the same, but this isn't the case with Vista, therefore 2003 probably sees it as a different driver than the one it has. Can anyone shed more light on this a…

running programs on network drives
by Guest Rich Wethington- 11 replies

I recently replaced the server we use for terminal services. I have installed all of the programs that were on the old server on the new one. My problem is that any program that is actually on a network drive will not work. I get the following error. Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. The programs work fine when run from the console, but not over terminal services. This server also has ISA 2000 running on it. The old one did also. Thanks, Rich Wethington
