Remote Desktop in Vista
by Guest Eric- 6 replies
I am trying to connect to an XP Pro machine from a Vista Home Premiuim machine via Remote Desktop Connection. It works just fine behind my router or without it when I try to connect from a Windows 2000 machine. So that leaves me with the indication that there is a setting in Vista that is blocking it. I get the message "can't connect to the remote computer." Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Terminal Services Printing
by Guest Tom Deckert- 6 replies

I have a TS environment connected to a WAN. When logging in from another LAN environment with Networked Printers, the default printers are not seen within the Printers and Faxes window while other networked printers are visible. In another instance within the same WAN shared printers are not seen within the Printers and Faxes window. I've read that TS shares locally attached printers, but that is not what I am seeing with the networked printers. Is there a way I can install the networked or shared printers on the terminal server so the user can choose which printer they will use? The shared printers are attcahed to static IP PCs. Thanks in advan…

Can't print to client printer from W2003 R2 x64 TS
by Guest Mark L Cooper- 6 replies
We just moved our main application from a W2000 server to a new W2003 R2 Std x64 server. We can run our main application on the new TS as usual from both XP and Vista clients. We've tested an XP client with an HP LaserJet 6P attached and a Vista Business client with an HP LaserJet 6P. We've tested with both normal 'user' accounts and administrator accounts. The client printer does show up as the default printer in the Windows Printer Select dialog box running on the TS. Testing with Notepad and a 1 word document on the TS and trying to print to the client printer gives the error "The handle is invalid." Printing to the client printer from the ma…

I seem to remember that the registry key IdleWinStationPoolCount handled the idle sessions, so that i could have idle sessions and still have the ability to connect while under Terminal Services Remote administration mode. It does not seem to be the same on windows 2003. How can I change this in server 2003?

Terminal Server Print Port Mapping Issue
by Guest Jeff- 6 replies
Hello, I have a customer who has three employees working via TS on a Win 2000 server. Only one has a problem when printing. Seems like when they she connects to her TS session, her printer never maps to the right port. She always has to go into the printer properties and change the port to the one that says "ANNHOMEPC: PRN1 Microsoft Office Document". After she does that, all's fine..just an annoyance to do this every time she logs in. I've supplied a link to the .jpg to show you the ports. http://www.virtual-it-inc.com/pics/image1.jpg Also, I was wondering if it's normal for so many ports i.e. TS001, TS002...all the way to TS0018 to be in the print prop…

by Guest MacGyver- 6 replies

Hello, Can someone explain me the problem that happens us when using Terminal server. There is about 700 thin clients connected to 35 terminal servers, and almost all of them have the same problem, and it is slow screen motion. For example when they are writing in the MS Word or another program the text update is slow, they wrote whole word, but only first cahacters appears and so.... The same happens when they are srcolling the web pages (slow) The network is containing D-Link switches, HP Switches and SonicWall Switches. Any idea what to check first ? The networks seems to be ok after we checked the performance. Thank You Best regards

Office 2007 on TS - which version?
by Guest Ole- 6 replies

Hello Everybody, I have read the licensing issues on this board and I think, not all of our customers will be amused... Nevertheless, we will continue to set up our lab environment consisting of Fileserver and TS. We have installed Server 2008. I have tried to install Office 2007 Enterprise on this server, but the system tells me that this version of Office is no good for use in TS environment. Which version should I use? (I have a bunch of opportunities in Technet Keys, but don't know which is best). Thank you Ole

We have a Windows 2003 Server running TS and 10 thin-clients connect to it. We have installed a new copy of Office 2003 (in install mode) on the Terminal Server and plan to provide Word, Excel to the thin- clients that login to the TS. 1. How do we properly license the MS Office for this -ie, how many & purchase/part information. 2. Where are those licenses installed? Thanks

Bold text disappearing in RDS to Win 2k3 server
by Guest Alicia Wallace- 6 replies

Hi, We have a site with a Windows 2003 R2 (SP2) terminal server, and a Windows 2003 SBS (SP2) server running Exchange. There are 15 users on the terminal server, some of them working off PCs, some off laptops. There are three laptop users who have been having regular problems with their session. At a random point (for no apparent reaon - there are no regular errors appearing in the event logs on either server or the laptops) all the bold text in the session disappears. This includes the titles off the open windows, all the bold text within Outlook (titles of new e-mails, any folder titles which have unread e-mails, etc), the start button (the start bu…

Ports and more
by Guest Brad- 6 replies

I thank everyone for their help on this forum. Besides my LPT1: printing issue, we also have a Serial Port issue. We have a program that monitors Mocon units (burst testers) that should read the data from the testing unit and store it into a SQL server database table. The main program is a VB6 app, which hopefully soon, will be converted for a .Net environment. I am having the same issue with the Serial port. We test it on a standard PC and it works fine. When we plug it into a thin client, nothing happens. At least with my printing issue, I get a print error 482. Could this be a user policy issue coming from the Terminal Server. I have not yet l…

Office 2007 licensing problems with terminal server
by Guest kalarasho- 6 replies

I have been trying to install office 2007 on a win2k3 server for quite a while with no luck. With the MSDN I’m getting the Office Ultimate edition, and after installing when trying to use anything out of it I’m getting the weird message of “this copy of Microsoft office word cannot be used on terminal server”. Microsoft support site says that i need to uninstalled and then re-install with a volume license key. So I uninstalled and obtained a volume license key from the MSDN, but now the installation programs tells me that the key is wrong, and refuses to install. How can I get over these licensing issues??

TS redirect to HP PSC 1500 series
by Guest Thomas Kroljic- 6 replies
All, Does anyone know if this specific printer (HP PSC 1500) has the ability to be used with a TS session on the remote client? Reason I'm asking is that this is a multi-function printer. When I attempted to download a print driver for this printer from the HP website to install on the TS server, it began to install an entire application (suite). I cancelled the download. I also found a HP document listed in another thread in this forum that listed all the HP printers that are compatable with TS and Citrix. This printer was listed as NOT. As such, I just want to make sure this is true before I explain to my boss that his home printer will not work. …

Ok, i am stumped on this one, Remove VPN option on TS
by Guest Noob- 6 replies
I need to remove the ability to create VPN connections off of only 1 terminal server. I know that I can create a new OU and move the TS server to there. Create a new GPO and make the change to "Network/Network Connections" section and apply it to that OU. But this is a "User Configuration" and will not apply to that server because there is no users under that OU (correct me if I am wrong on that). I can't apply the new GPO to the users OU because they make other VPN connection. So, how do I remove the ability to create VPN connections off of 1 Terminal Server? I have looked under the Local Security Settings but I am not able to find anything there. An…

Security Exception required to run the TSPDRW
by Guest SteveM- 6 replies

I am running Server 2003 as a Terminal Server. In order to resolve some printing issues I am trying to run the Terminal Server Printer Driver Redirection Wizard (TSPDRW). After launching the tspdrw.exe I get a dialogue box saying 'The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. The operation required the SecurityException.' I would like to know how to grant the application the required permission or alternatively how to use the Microsoft .NET security policy administration tool. (Both of these being suggested as ways forward by the dialogue box). Full details of the error thrown up by the dialogue box are copie…

Liscencing for servers outside our domain
by Guest TonyZeigler- 6 replies

Current setup: Domain X that serves the main office for our small company. Domain Y which is a client's server we are setting up for them. While the client's server is at our site, we would like to allow them to remote into it, and use liscences from the liscencing server we have in domain X. Both servers are 2003. I would be ok setting up a trust between the domains only if I could lock them down. Looking for Suggestions :)

TS Licence Server message

Hi, I get a message: “No Terminal Server licence server is available …” every time I start Terminal Server Licensing. I only have one server in my domain, Windows 2003 TS which also is a DC and TS Licence Server. I know this is not the recommend solution, but shouldn’t it work? I can connect manually to the Licence Server and verify that it is activated. Why doesn’t it connect to the Licence Server automatically? Will this situation cause problem for me when the first 120 days has passed? Thanks! Tommy

Hello. I am using TS 2000 server. I have setup the regional settings to switch between English and Japanese. However, those settings dont show up for all users. Only I have the language icon on the taskbar. For other users, I have to go and add it manually for each user. I know in XP there is an option to make this change for all users. Does 2000 have the same option somewhere? Thanks.

TS and Non TS working
by Guest Mike K- 6 replies

Hi all, I've created a new TS 2008 environment for several hundred users. The TS side of things works really well with Group Policies and TS Profile paths doing most of the work. I now have a major problem. Users now want to use laptops in some parts of the business. Because all the group policies are running against the users, when they login using their usual name on to a laptop it pretty much cripples the machine! Is there a way around this i.e. loopback processing etc? Any help greatly appreciated. Mike
