I have 8 Device CALs that were allocated to 8 computers. 6 of them have been replaced with new computers. How do I handle the TS licensing. The new 6 computers were automatically issued temp licenses but they keep getting knocked off and see a message saying there was a licensing problem. Some stay on for 30 min while others go for 45 min but all eventually lose their connection and get the message

When a user times out in their remoteapp session, the whole terminal server screen appears with the login box in the center. Is there a way I can have it just show the small log on dialog box...like the one that initially appears the first time the remote app is launched? -- Thanks!

Good Day Please can someone help, i have a Windows 2003 server with around 50 users connecting to it, sometimes the TS will keep their printers from previous sessions, so it will show two printers eg: HP1018 in session 10 and HP1018 in session 12 , i think this maybe from the users being disconnected if the line drops, or maybe if they close the terminal sever session by clicking on the cross at the top of the screen instead of logging off correctly by going, start - logoff. Another problem that happens is that quite often it will show all the printers on the server instead of just the users printers. So i was wandering if there was a way to stop th…

I have set up the License Server Security Group setting on my Terminal Server Licensing Server which is running Windows 2003. Problems connecting to share
by Guest KevinThomas- 5 replies
Hi, I have a problem connecting to a network share from my Windows2003 TS. New users can connect to the share from any Windows XP machine on our network by once we put them on TS they cannot connect - you do not have rights etc... They can however browse the server and see the shares and can open the sysvol folder of this server and can open shares on other servers on our network. Licenses and evrything looks correct. It seems to be a rights issue but they is setup in the same groups as working users and the user can connect from a Windows XP client with no problems? Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks in advance KevinT

Can FolderShare work on Win2003 Terminal Services? I have remote salespeople who need access to documents (but I don't want to share entire remote drives) for printing. FolderShare seems like a good solution (share remote files with the connecting laptop), but will it function under TS? Thanks.

New 2003 Installation with RDP Printing Problems
by Guest Mark Stoker- 7 replies
We have just installed a new 2003 R2 terminal server solution in one of our retail stores. We are using Wyse S30 terminal with HP P2014 printers attached via the USB connection. I am using the Windows 2003 driver. Most of the time the users can print fine but we have seen the following problems. i) If say the printer jams and the user has the intervene the print job seems the get 'stuck' in the print queue. Re-starting the print spooler service usally does the job getting it to print. ii) Sometimes when the users logs off the instance of the printer is not removed. Subsequetly when the user logs back in there are 2 instances of the printer and they…

Cant access admin features on our Terminal server.
by Guest Glamprecht- 2 replies
When I am logged into my Win2003 Terminal server I cannot access some admin features. Such as "services" or "Computer management". The typical routes to get to these tools are not available. Such as when I right click My Computer, there is not an option for "Computer Management" and when I go to Control Panel and open up administrative tools I only see three tools that I can access; Cluster Admin and two that deal with Net Framework. I am a Domain Admin and I administer this server but weather I am logged in locally or remotely to this server there are areas of the server system that I cannot easily access. For now i have been creating custom MMC co…

Non Admin TS Users cannot copy and Paste to Remote Desktop
by Guest Mat Powell- 5 replies

Hi, When the Administrator connects to the TS on Server 2003 (Standard), Copy and Paste to my local machine is fine. When anyone else Connects the same way the Copy function just hangs forever and you can never copy. Our other remote site works in the same way without a problem. (Still looking for the different setting(s). The RDC "Disk Drives" setting is crossed also. I feel it may be a rights thing but cannot find it, any ideas? Some facts: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. TS License installed The remote site is actually on the same lan, ie: Technically Local, the other site that works is really remote. All applications etc work ok via the …

Multiple Terminal services Servers Licencing split
by Guest astronomer2002- 3 replies
I have two Terminal Servers (Windows 2003) one of them controlling the licences. The second server has just been added to run a specific application. I want each server to have its own licence pool as each caters for a different set of remote users within the same active directory. I cannot see how to do this. I have a 25 pack of licences for one server and a new 10 pack for the other. I do not want to simply top-up the 25 as this will inevitably lead to one group of users hogging the licences. The licencing mode is per user and one server has been in operation for 3 years. Can anyone suggest a way to ration ts cals in this way?

Are there any TS CALs that come with Windows Server 2003?
by Guest Joe Murphy- 9 replies
I'm looking to add 5 CALs to my TS and when I go into the TS Licensing utility, I see my DC (which is the only TS server in my environment) and it reads Product: Existing Windows 2000 Server - Terminal Services CAL Token (per device) Type: Built-in Total: Unlimited Available: Unlimited Issued: 0 So, what does this mean? I have unlimited TS CALs? (I don't think so.) Is there a number of CALs that come with Windows Server? I don't want to purchase TS CALs that I don't need. Right now we are using Remote Desktop for Administration, which allows just two concurrent connections. Do I need to uninstall that before bringing up TS? How does the OS diff…

TS Gateway - RDP keeps losing connection and reconnects
by Guest Dag Staale Jenssen- 8 replies

Hi We have a W2K8 configured as terminal server with a TS Gateway and TS Licensing server inn an SBS 2003 R2 domain. We can connect thru Remote Web Workplace (RWW) to the W2K8 TS. The connection works fine, and we are not experiencing any connections problems what so ever. We can also connect thru TS Gateway on the TS server, allowing us connection on port 443. When we connect thru the terminal server gateway, we can log on to the W2K8 TS. At random and persistently the RDP client will lose connection to the TS. The RDP client will reconnect time after time and so often that it is impossible to work. At times it will continuously connect, lose connecti…

How to disable Remote Desktop's SoundRedirector?
by Guest Adrian Schmitt- 2 replies
Hi, how can I disable the "sound redirector" addin on a remote desktop server machine? I need this as a workaround, as I am connecting from a client (rdesktop on linux) that accidently always switches sound redirection on. But I need the sound to stay on the remote machine. I can see some registry path here, I thought sound redirection could somehow be switched off? [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server \AddIns\Sound Redirector] I would just like the sound to stay on the server, so that the remote sound devices of the server machine are connected the same as they are when somoeone logs in there on a "real" terminal. …

Compatible printers for RDP clients
by Guest Bryan- 1 reply
I have a windows 2003 server running terminal services in application mode. I am having trouble finding printers for my RDP clients. Most of the client OS' are WinXP or Win2k. I am very familiar with printer driver mapping (KB 239088) and the various workarounds for port problems such as the solution in KB 302361 or sharing the client printer and mapping an LPT port to the local printer. I'm also aware that PDL based printers work better than host based printers, and am aware about the "fallback printer driver" group policy. I favor HP printers. However, I'm finding that many personal printers and even some workgroup category printers are not compati…

Server 2000 Licensing Question
by Guest MikeK- 4 replies

I have an old 2000 Citrix farm that I am supporting. It should be replaced with all new hardware and 2008 server within the next 6 months or so, but that's all tied up in budget. So we have to keep it running. (it could more than a year before the budge gets approved, so we can't depend on it) However, The DC that is running the License service is dying. Environment is 100% XP clients, all are on the same LAN. 10 Terminal Servers, 3 DC's Existing License Server has: 25 Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client Access License (Type OPEN) (10 are issued dating from 2006, up till last week) 450 Builtin In (the main bulk of our users) 14 Temporary Windows 20…

Remote Access to Windows 2008 ?
by Guest Patrick- 5 replies
We just install our first Windows 2008 Server. We find that when we use RDP to access it, it works as remote access (we haven't used /admin option). From the web, we learn that Windows 2008 supports 2 active session if TS is not installed. If it is true, we wonder why RDP session is a Console Session. Your advice is sought.
