FolderShare on Terminal Services?
by Guest Sean O- 4 replies

Can FolderShare work on Win2003 Terminal Services? I have remote salespeople who need access to documents (but I don't want to share entire remote drives) for printing. FolderShare seems like a good solution (share remote files with the connecting laptop), but will it function under TS? Thanks.

Shared User Folders and printer setup

I hope the following makes sense. I have a 2003 standard server setup running as a Terminal Server to allow our other location (several miles away) to access our main SBS 2003 server and run our Mfg/accntg software. We have a program called 'Check Factory' that allows the printinf of forms and checks to blank stock. In order to get this software to work Trans-Micro (the makers of Check Factory) have a detailed procedure that allows multiple Terminal Server users to run the software at the same time. Here is the setup procedure that should allow the software to print to the correct client printer (which I have followed): 01: Install the Check Fa…

We moved our Windows 2000 TS machine from an NT4.0 domain to an active directory domain with a mix of 2000 and 2003 domain controllers. The domain functional level is Windows 2000 native. We realized after the fact that the licensing server could not longer run on the Windows 2000 TS server and moved it to a Windows 2003 domain controller in the same site with the help of the MS clearing house. XP clients that previously connected to the terminal server still work fine. New clients get the message 'remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol'. We tried deleting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSLicen…

Cant access admin features on our Terminal server.
by Guest Glamprecht- 2 replies

When I am logged into my Win2003 Terminal server I cannot access some admin features. Such as "services" or "Computer management". The typical routes to get to these tools are not available. Such as when I right click My Computer, there is not an option for "Computer Management" and when I go to Control Panel and open up administrative tools I only see three tools that I can access; Cluster Admin and two that deal with Net Framework. I am a Domain Admin and I administer this server but weather I am logged in locally or remotely to this server there are areas of the server system that I cannot easily access. For now i have been creating custom MMC co…

Modify the amount of time that a user/PC holds onto a TS license?
by Guest Glamprecht- 1 reply
From what I can see, when a device or a user grabs a license from the Terminal server, there is a random time set on that license as to when it expires and is released back into the pool. Assuming that this is so..Can I shorten the time that is assigned to the license so that the license is returned to the pool quicker? We have lots of user that might remote into our terminal server once or twice per year and yet even if they are not using that license, they continue to hold onto them until that preset time is up. 52 to 89 days...... Can I shorten this to 24 hours or 7 days??????

Get Terminal Client PC Name - WMI
by Guest Dan- 4 replies

Hi everyone, We are looking for a way to have the server get the client PC name from the terminal session (the PC connecting thorough Remote Desktop). Can anyone help me with a WMI Filter for this? We have set up a policy so that when the user starts a new terminal session 1 of 2 things happen. They see the full desktop or they see an application that automatically loads up. This is dependant on the computer the user is calling in with from Remote Desktop. Thanks

Hello, I set up a Windows Longhorn Server 2008 with Terminal Services for testing the Plug and Play redirection. I have tested it with Windows Mobile Devices, Microsoft Webcam, Logitech Webcam but it won't detect or install any driver. The redirection of drives works perfectly. No problems there. Anybody got this to work? I'm using Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 and Windows Vista Ultimate Client. Greetings

2003 TS Session not going to disconnected
by Guest Dan- 3 replies

We have 3 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 Terminal Servers. We are having a problem with when a user is working remotely and the internet drops. When the users line drops the session should go to disconnected right. Instead the session is completely logged off the server. I have a policy set for our terminal servers in AD to set keep alives and auto reconnection and we have idle and disconnected session limits of 3 hours but it logs the session off within 2 minutes after the users loses a network connection. 2 of these servers are in a load balancing config with session directory and are experiencing the same issue. It works fine if the user discon…

Will TS connections stop in this scenario ?
by Guest Xavier- 2 replies

Hello, I have performed an audit for a potential customer. This is a small shop with 6 people and for some (unknown) reason, their current IT firm installed a Windows 2003 Server (SP2) as TS. This server is the only server in the house and acts as DC, file & print, etc... The company uses 2 laptops and 4 Wyse Winterminals. I checked the TS licencing configuration and here is what I found: 1. TS Lincencing service is installed on the server 2. TS Licence server is unactivated 3. TS is in user mode The current IT company that advised the customer might have wanted to save some TS licencing dollars. I have no idea when the server was installed and…

The strange case of the Excel add-in
by Guest Gonzo- 1 reply
Hello, I have a strange situation for which I don't have all the information I would like, but I am posting here anyway in the hopes that the symptoms ring a bell in somebody's mind. I have a Windows 2003 server running Terminal Services. The users connect to it and run a home-made application (written in Visual FoxPro). The server also has Microsoft Office installed. The home-made application can generate a bunch of data that is passed onto Excel, where an add-in (written by an external developer) will massage the data with several pivots and generate a report (all done in Excel within the TS session). The user ends up with two windows open: the FoxPro app…

I know this is a topic that has had a lot of discussion, but I am really just trying to get a couple of answers here. I've read through and done the things in this article: http://blogs.msdn.com/ts/archive/2007/01/22/vista-remote-desktop-connection-authentication-faq.aspx I still have the following problems: Windows XP user trying to connect to a Windows Terminal Server 2000 using RDC6. Saved shortcut for RDC had a stored username, domain, and password which worked perfectly up until we upgraded to RDC6 through Windows Update. I was told we can click on the "Add Credentials" button to save users' credentials to the machine so they don't have to login, but this…

What is locking ntuser.dat
by Guest HDI- 7 replies
Hi, Sometimes this file is used (locked) by an another process so when you log on you will get a temporary profile. On each instance where a temporary profile has been used, there are four successive USERENV errors: 1508 "Windows was unable to load the registry..." 1502 "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile..." 1515 "Windows has backed up the user's profile...." 1511 "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile...." When I reboot the problem is solved but I hope there is another solution. Anyone? What is locking this file? When I see in open files under shared folders there is nothing. Can I look some…

Compatible printers for RDP clients
by Guest Bryan- 1 reply
I have a windows 2003 server running terminal services in application mode. I am having trouble finding printers for my RDP clients. Most of the client OS' are WinXP or Win2k. I am very familiar with printer driver mapping (KB 239088) and the various workarounds for port problems such as the solution in KB 302361 or sharing the client printer and mapping an LPT port to the local printer. I'm also aware that PDL based printers work better than host based printers, and am aware about the "fallback printer driver" group policy. I favor HP printers. However, I'm finding that many personal printers and even some workgroup category printers are not compati…

Remote desktop for Administration mode. Suppose that two user are logged on the terminal server. (all 2 available slots are busy) Now what if an Administrator has to logon (emergency) from far away place on the internet side? I receive this error: The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections. How do I tell the server to throw a dice and disconnect or logoff someone (it doesn't matter who)? It is more important that the Administrator can logon. What options are available? 1. A configuration or registry setting? Where? 2. /console ? 3. What if I do not want to logoff the console session? Thank You for any advice and…
