Always ask for login information AND RDP client 6.0
by Guest George Valkov- 2 replies
I have configured my server to always ask for login information. The server is 2003 EE SP2. ( [Administrative tools --> Terminal services configuration --> Connections --> RDP-Tcp --> Logon Settings] Always use the following logon information: user name:{blank} domain:{blank} [x] Always prompt for password ) 1. How do I tell the Remote desktop connection client v6.0.6000 not to ask me for user name and password? (it will be ignored anyway) 2. I don't understand what is the use of that dialog, when the server offers a standard logon screen, so is there at least one advantage in using it? Thank You for any advices and answers! Geo…

printing in TS...yes, that!
by Guest Cary Shultz- 2 replies

Good afternoon! I have a hopefully simple question regarding printing within a TS environment. First off - environment is single Windows Server 2003 R2 (SP2 32-bit) AD Domain and the TS box is a member server of that domain. I have implemented the ntprintsubs.inf (the two entries in the registry are correct) and am seeing an error entry on the TS box in the Event Logs. Question: upon reviewing the ntprintsubs.inf file I have noticed that one printer (on the left side of the file) will have multiple entries (on the right side) as a possible mapping. Is this possible? Here is an example of what I mean: "HP LaserJet 6L" = "HP LaserJet 4" "HP L…

How to disable Remote Desktop's SoundRedirector?
by Guest Adrian Schmitt- 2 replies
Hi, how can I disable the "sound redirector" addin on a remote desktop server machine? I need this as a workaround, as I am connecting from a client (rdesktop on linux) that accidently always switches sound redirection on. But I need the sound to stay on the remote machine. I can see some registry path here, I thought sound redirection could somehow be switched off? [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server \AddIns\Sound Redirector] I would just like the sound to stay on the server, so that the remote sound devices of the server machine are connected the same as they are when somoeone logs in there on a "real" terminal. …

by Guest TonyZeigler- 6 replies

Current setup: Domain X that serves the main office for our small company. Domain Y which is a client's server we are setting up for them. While the client's server is at our site, we would like to allow them to remote into it, and use liscences from the liscencing server we have in domain X. Both servers are 2003. I would be ok setting up a trust between the domains only if I could lock them down. Looking for Suggestions :)

by Guest BadBug- 1 reply

Hi I currently have a terminal server licensing server issue. I have one server in my domain hosting the terminal server licensing service. This server is also a DC and runs 2003 R2. I currently have valid purchased licenses registered. All of it has been handed out and now I am handing out temp licenses for the 2003 products. I now have this issues where a machine got a temp license. The license has expired and in my management console it shows that the license expired on the 5 of June 2007. Now this machine cannot work, because the server is not handing out a new temp license to this client machine. I have restarted the server services. Rebuilt the c…

Processor utilization on Multi Processor Servers
by Guest Riaan de Bruyn- 0 replies
Hi All I've noticed that processes which would normally fully utilizes processors like winzip or winrar etc. only utilizes the capacity of one (1) CPU in a Multi Processor environment via Terminal Services. If you log on to the console of a Terminal Services server, the process will use all CPU's to almost 100% utilization. But through a terminal services session it seems to be limited to use only one CPU. Is this by design or is there a workaround / configuration to all a single process to use more CPU power if available in terminal services? Kind Regards

Licensing Server will not activate
by Guest ThomasR- 1 reply

I'm setting up a Terminal Server on a 2003 Server. When I try to 'Activate' Terminal Server Licensing it does nothing. This box will be a member server when delivered, but right now I have it on the bench as a member of a workgroup. It should still activate shouldn't it? I have done this on two other servers a couple of years ago (DC's though) and had no problems. Thanks

We purchased 10 Open License TSE Cals and installed and activated the license server and all is well with that. However the new clients are still grabbing the temporary licenses. I am still in the need for some assistance. I'd like to thank those who replied to my previous entry. Here is what I'm trying to do, what I've done so far, and some things that people have suggested. I am an Americorp Volunteer working on a technology infrastructure update for an Independent Living Center. This is my first experience using Server 2003 and Terminal Server. I have implemented the Terminal Server and all appears to be working as planned with the exception of the following. We have 4 Satellite offices; each one has their own Network Printer. (Same Brand, Brother 2070n) These printers are assigned a static IP address and are plugged directly …

Remote Desktop vs Terminal Services
by Guest SuperGumby [SBS MVP]- 4 replies

H Guys, brand new install, Server 2003 (x32). SO OK, I put together this nice new Windows Server 2003 (x32), join it to the domain, and enable TS. I then connect to it remotely as Administrator, all's well. So let's take the KB/mouse off and run her headless, move her into the server room. Apps are installed as Admin, all is well. Go for it guys, use it. 'The policy of this system does not allow you to logon interactively', HUH? Even though Terminal Services is installed the server is acting like 'Remote Desktop', 2 sessions and Admins only. I've just been in (remote) and removed the tick from the TS win component, used Petri notes to enable R…

Hi, We have a couple of remote offices, and the users have notebooks and connect to the main office via TS. Our TS server has a mapped drive to a disk that is backed up nightly to tape and users are encouraged to store documents there for backup purposes, and work on those files via a TS connection. However, these are mobile users, who don't always have internet access and have to store those files locally on the notebook, and therefore have no way to then "copy" them to the TS mapped drive. What are my possible workarounds to this if any? Thanks, Mike
