by Guest Eberhard Wagner- 6 replies

Hi All, I don't get the Terminal Server User Cals working. There is still the balloon "Cannot find Windows 2003 Terminal Server License Server". Installing the License was without any error, no error in eventlog, I restartet the Service "Terminal Service License". In the window "Terminal Server Licensing" the Server is activated, in Product: "Windows Server 2003 - Terminal Server Per User CAL Token", Type: "Open", Total and Available: "5", Issued: "Not Applicable", which seems to be ok in Server 2003 SP1. Under Terminal Services Configuration- Server Settings is Licensing "Per User", Server discovery: Automatic and discovered under Domain/Workgroup …

Session Broker and TS Gateway
by Guest Dylan- 6 replies
I've followed the step-by-step guide for TS Session broker and TS Gateway but was wondering how to make both work together. With TS Session Broker, all TS servers are published on the DNS with the same farm name in a round robin fashion but TS Gateway manages TS servers with security group. HOw can one publish just the Gateway server to public facing and still achive load balancing using TS Session Broker without publish IP of the TS servers? Thanks.

Remote desktop for Administration mode. Suppose that two user are logged on the terminal server. (all 2 available slots are busy) Now what if an Administrator has to logon (emergency) from far away place on the internet side? I receive this error: The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections. How do I tell the server to throw a dice and disconnect or logoff someone (it doesn't matter who)? It is more important that the Administrator can logon. What options are available? 1. A configuration or registry setting? Where? 2. /console ? 3. What if I do not want to logoff the console session? Thank You for any advice and…

Windows 2008 in TS role, no sound devices?
by Guest mat- 6 replies

I would like to test windows 2008 in it's terminal services role. In particular I would like to see how it does with sound playback and recording from remote workstations. I've installed it on an older pc and the built in audio chip is not recognized (asus K8N motherboard). If I buy a windows 2008 compatible soundcard, will I be able to proceed with my testing? Can anyone recommend a card? Seems like an obvoius question but I wanted to confirm.

by Guest Scott- 6 replies

Basic problem: users connecting to TS machine get logged off and then logged back on after 10 minutes idle time. clients: (XP sp2) using Remote Desktop Connection connect to: Windows Server 2003 R2 terminal services machine. RDP listener has idle timeout set to Never. GPO for terminal services machine is set to idle timeout never. At first I thought it was a network connectivity issue, so I setup a remote desktop to a different machine on the same LAN as the terminal services machine, but that is staying connected. I'm sure there's some simple thing I either didn't do that I was supposed to, or was supposed to do but didn't, but if anyone has any …

I have a medium sized distribunted communitiy of devices. My license sever tells mr that cals allocated to the same machine name. Are the any utilities that can show move information regarding the machine as I want to avoid asking the users to look at their terminal settings. I suspect there is a faulty terminal which is taking more than one license but I cannot eaasily find it as the machine name is not listed against any logged in sessions but licenses continue to be allcated to this machine name. TS 2008 User & Device CAL's
by Guest Peter Lowrey- 6 replies

Is it possible to mix the userage of User CAL's and Device CAL's on a single 2008 Terminal Server, and if so, how do you set the TS Licensing mode on the Server? Based on the information here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/licensing-terminal.aspx Particularly "You may choose to use a combination of TS Device CALs and TS User CALs simultaneously with the server software.", I beleived it was possible, but now that I'm actually looking to install the licenses, I'm scratching my head somewhat. Please Help.

Adding Users to Local Administrators Group
by Guest MSNews- 6 replies

Hi Everyone, I am relatively inexperienced in TS though I have 20 years experience in Network systems for small business. I am implementing ACT by Sage on W2003R2 TS and the complete functionality/integration with Outlook2003 works only if Users/Domain Users are members of the Local Administrators Group (LAG). I have been using Process Monitor but cannot locate any Access Denied messages when Users are not members of the the LAG. Anyone have ideas on how to identify the 'offending' rights so that I can implement this application without completely eroding security on the TS Regards Piloo

TS session minor annoyances...that are making me crazy!
by Guest Gregg Hill- 6 replies

Hello! I have some minor appearance issues to which I cannot yet find an answer. I am posting here in the hope that some bored guru will stumble upon this post while I am off on Google looking for the answer. 1) I cannot turn off the "Stop USB Mass Storage Device" item in the system tray when restricted users are logged into a locked down 2000 TS. I have "Hide the notification area" checked under User Config > Admin Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar. I need to kill that so no end user can disable the USB backup drive on the TS. 2) Another thing I have Googled to death is trying to find a GPO setting to enable desktop icon auto arrange for all…

I have an application term srv 2003 R2. This is also my license server. I registered my server but I havent purchased any licenses yet. I am setup for per user mode. I must configure this server 100% before I purchase licenses. I am about one month into my eval period. I had to install my programs by cmd prompt, change user /install. My exe's are not all named setup.exe. When I view Add & Remove programs, I don't see all of my prog in there. When I log in as admin, I can run all my programs. When I login as a user, I can access only two network programs. All programs are on the same drive that I can access when I browse the network. I can also use M…

I am planning a migration from my current Windows 2003 SP2 Terminal Server to a new Windows 2003 TErminal Server. I will rebuild a new box - fresh windows 2003 server SP2 and installed the software currently on my TS box. A few questions - 1 - What is the best approach for migrating the following: - licenses - profiles - printers ( specifically remote TS printers) I would also like to disable the desktop for Users - so they only have access to what I decide. How can I deploy a custom desktop to the Users? Thanks, SJMP

The printer driver is unknow: when users log into 2003 Terminal
by Guest The Rev- 6 replies

I run two .VBS scripts in AD that add printers to the users machines. It works good when the users log into their computers at work. When the users connect to the 2003 R2 SP2 term srv, they reveive a windows script host popup that has the path to the policy and has code: 80070705. All they have to do is click OK and it goes away. It has now become anoying to the partner group. I loaded the printer drivers onto the term srv and this error yet appears. All of my .bat script load good. Is there a conflict with VBS scripts and term srv? Thank you in advance.

Dear Newsgroup I cannot establish a remote desktop connection on my Windows XP Pro base unit (10.0.1.241) from my Windows XP laptop (10.0.1.242). Ran wireshark to monitor network activity and have noticed lots of TCP checksum error, first 4 packets are good, then errors as below Source Destination Proto Info 10.0.1.242 10.0.1.241 TCP warmspotMgmt > 4…

TS2k3 Explorer Issue
by Guest Betelgeuse- 6 replies
Hi, I have one 2k3 TS that is doing something strange. If any user connects to it, with drive redirection turned on, instead of seeing Z:\user's comuter name\C they see z:\Some other user's computer name\C If you click on the z drive, you do get your local drive, so it is just that the name in explorer is incorrect. And it is the SAME "some other user's computer name" for everyone. Any ideas where to look for this one? Thanks,

IE7 ActiveX control download problems
by Guest Tiran Irani- 6 replies
I have IE7 installed on Server 2003 R2 with SP2. Users are unable to install ActiveX controls such as flash player. The notification bar pops up stating that the download is available, when clicked the install dialog appears. Then the notification bar re-appears with the message "Internet explorer has blocked this site from using an activex control in an unsafe manner" and the control does not install (trying to install Flash player initially!). How can I allow this to work? Is there a way to do this as administrator and make available to users to stop users downloading any old ActiveX control? Thanks in advance

Which version for terminal services??
by Guest jawdoc- 6 replies
I have a small network currently have Windows 2003 SBS. Setup as a domain with a single DC. We currently use Terminal Services in our remote office but are limited to 2 sessions as I have it in Administrative mode. I also understand that the SBS edition does not support application mode. So I am planning on replacing the server. I want to make sure I don't make a mistake with the version of 2003 server. Does the standard version have full support for application mode? or do I have to go with Enterprise edition? Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

TS setup for multiple users
by Guest Markus- 6 replies

I am a newbie to TS, but am excited about running my app (normally installed on LANs) over a WAN using TS and possibly over the Internet. I have a client with 3000 employees in 1000 departments. But they only need max of 10 concurrent users to use my app over their WAN. One basic question I have concerns TS setup. My app writes temp files to the same folder in which the EXE resides. I understand I must be sure each user runs this EXE from their own user folder under TS to avoid user temp file conflicts which is not needed when the app runs on a workstation in a LAN. This means I need a minimum of 10 folders for 10 users on the server, and 10 cop…

I go to start->run and then enter the string: mstsc /v:<servername> /console /f It will connect me to the server, but if someone is already logged on using session 0 (console session) I get an ID+1 session assigned to me as opposed to me bumping that person off and getting assigned ID 0. I have even created multiple connections to the same <servername> using the above command and param's ( I also connected to a <severname2> machine from my machine and attempted to get a console session started from it to <severname> to no avail). I am using Vista Enterprise on my email machine attempting to connect to win2k3 servers. Any…
