ActiveX & IMsRdpClientTransportSettings
by Guest Rob Chartier- 1 reply

I'm attempting to add support for the Gateway stuff to an open source project (http://www.codeplex.com/terminals) that I'm working on. I see that the IMsRdpClientTransportSettings interface defines most of what I need to be able to expose to the UI. The big question I have is how do I get access to this? I, of course, need to be backwards compatible and all that fun stuff. Essentially I'm new'ing up a AxMSTSCLib.AxMsRdpClient2 Thanks for any insight. -Rob

IE7 and UNC Paths from the address bar
by Guest Larryw- 8 replies

I am having issues with several Windows Server 2003 servers running sp2. Currently we have IE7 installed on 3 test servers, and things appear ok when you RDP to the server or the console. The issue arrises when you use an RDP published app, or publish IE7 on citrix. It will launch seamlessly on the users desktop, and they can work like normal, except when they type in a UNC path in the address bar. now this can be, \\server\share or c:\ or d:\ or a mapped drive like n:\ or u:\. when they do this they get an error. Address Bar c:\(or what ever the path is) is currently unavailable. the odd thing is it pops the path you typed in, in a windows explorer win…

RDP file - age - limit usage
by Guest roger.williams.tractors@googlemail.com- 1 reply

I have a web based app to issue RDP files; 140 [max] users), with only 100 [random] login accounts. Thus when the user is presented with a generated RDP file, they get the 3 options Download, save or Cancel. Is there a method for aging the RDP login file, so it will only work for a limited time - thus stopping the user from saving the file and trying to open the same file every day?

What Printers are Available per TS Session
by Guest news.microsoft.com- 4 replies

On a windows 2003 TS. If a user logs into TS what printers should they see. I would think they would see shared printers that are configured on the TS plus any local (to their PC) printers that are dynamically created on the TS for use by that session (would not see other session printers). How wrong am I? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

HP thin client RDP application development
by Guest Unis GeNUIT- 1 reply

Hi, We meet difficulty of developing an application to create and manage RDP client session in HP T5530 running Windows CE 5.0. We successfully built similar applications in Windows desktop platforms (Win2K/XP/2K3/Vista/2K8) based on MS RDP client components msrdp.ocx and mstscax.dll; but we can not use same way on Windows CE 5.0 of HP T5530 thin client device because: firstly, HP T5530 OS does not have msrdp.ocx; secondly, the mstacax.dll is found in HP T5530 OS, but can not be registered by regsvrce.exe which is the approach to register COM and Active OCX in Windows CE. With “Windows CE thin client development” docs from Microsoft, the compon…

Mapped Drive vs Actual Drive - Access issues
by Guest PDCCnet- 4 replies
Okay, this is pretty convoluted but I'll try to be clear. I have a share that exists on a Windows 2003. We'll call it "Folder1". I have an Access database in that share so multiple users can get to it. If a user happens to be connected to their TS session, they can navigate to the actual file on the "local" TS volume (drive D: in the TS session). Some users need to get to the database via a TS session; others can access it via the share. Because the database is a front-end/back-end structure, the drive paths have to be the same for both kinds of users. So, on the users' local desktops, I have mapped "Folder1" to drive M:. I have done the same inside th…

The server failed to retrieve the SID of Session BRoker
by Guest Kristin L. Griffin- 7 replies

Hi Folks, I have a weird issue. Even through the session broker server says my terminal servers joined ok, the terminal server system logs say differently. I get this message: The server failed to retrieve the security identifier (SID) of the TS Session Broker server. Win32 error code: 0x534. All terminal services connections go to only one server - they are not dispersed. Here are some network details and things I have ruled out: This is a Win2k8 environment. I have a farm of terminal servers (obviously) This is a completely virtual server environment, using HyperV I am not having network, dhcp, dns issues. Everything is running fine in that…

Terminal Server - Disaster Recover
by Guest SJMP- 3 replies

I am setting up my off-site disaster recovery terminal server. 1 - Is there anyway to migrate profiles from the production server? Or just copy and paste them when everyone is logged off? 2 - Licensing - I have licenses for my current server. How can I get those licenses installed on the DR Terminal Server (non-active) until I have to activate them? I am hoping that I dont have to put in a call to Microsoft if I needed to activate this server in an emergency. Thanks in advance! SJMP

How to use mstscax.dll in Windows CE?
by Guest Unis GeNUIT- 1 reply
Hi, We used to create wrapper for msrdp.ocx and mstscax.dll in Windows desktop OS as 2k/2k3/xp/vista/2k8; then use them in other applications. Now, we're trying to write similar Active OCX in Windows CE, which will warp MS RDP client component and be used in our other applications. The problem we're experiencing is that we do not not how to use the mstscax.dll in Windows CE. We even can not register mstscax.dll with regsvrce.exe in Windows CE. We need to build application to control attributes and process to create RDP session in Windows CE as in Windows desktop platforms we did already. If anyone knows how to build application based on MS RDP client …

Kernel Mode Printer blocking policy is enabled
by Guest Brent- 3 replies

After doing some Windows updates (Auguest 08 updates), I have an issue with users no longer having their printer available in the TS. The event viewer showed the Kernel Mode Printer blocking policy is enabled error.. I have disabled the following policy - Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode drivers. Now I no longer get the error message, but the printer is still not present. Checking the event log now simply showes the printer is marked for deletion - Printer xxx in on yyy in session 2 was deleted. That is the only mention of the printer. All was working fine before the latest updates were installed. Terminal Server 2003 R2 SP2, with Office…

Software Restriction Policy
by Guest Gavin- 3 replies
Hi All, We recently applied a software restriction policy on our terminal servers to stop a group of users who are executing exe's that are prohibited by our company’s policy. When one of these exe's is executed, it displays a message about not being able to execute because of software restrictions. Was wondering if there is a way to suppress this message, so that it is still logged to the event log, but the user doesn’t see any message? Thanks in advance, Gavin

Command.com
by Guest Gavin- 3 replies

Hi All, We have approx 30 terminal servers where I work, and we are having some issues with users trying to use command prompt. We have disabled cmd.exe, however the users are still able to create a shortcut/batch file to access command.com. Was wondering if there is a way to disable this through group policy, as I would like to apply the same restriction to the pc's that we have as well. I have tested changing the permissions on command.com, and it seems to work well, however, am not entirely keen on having to visit each computer/login to each server separately. Thanks, Gavin

TS W2K3 Registration Expired
by Guest jremmc- 3 replies
We purchased W2K3 TS with 10 TS CALs in January 2006. Aren't these permanent and why would our registration expire? (That's the message I got in TS Licensing app when walking thru the licensing wizard after wizard contacted MS Activation Server -- I cancelled out since I obviously was surprised and want to find out reason for expire and Help is no Help at all) TS Licensing app shows the 10 CALs listed in the columns "Total" and "Available" for "W2K3 TS Per User CAl Token" type "Retail Purchase"; however, the "Issued" column shows "Not Applicable". And there's a "Temporary Licenses for W2K3 TC Per Device CAL token" showing with nothing in the Total and A…

Limiting number of sessions on Windows 2003 TS
by Guest Edmond Lo- 2 replies

Hi there, We have a few Windows 2003 TSs running on a load balancing setup with a Foundry Load Balancing Switch. What we want to do is to limit the number active and disconnected session on any one of the TS. The reason behind that is our users will log onto a TS session, start an resource intensive application, then disconnect and reconnect later on to see the result on the application. Hence we would like to set a limit on the number of active and disconnected session just so we can have even number of session on each TS. I know there is a way to limit the number of active connect to the server, but just can't find anything limiting the combine of…

Log Off, Disconnect, but no Shutdown
by Guest JBradshaw- 11 replies

A previous admin created a GPO setting that removed the shutdown option from the start menu of machines in various OUs. I am trying to do some testing on a machine using RDP, and for some reason, it, also, does not have a shut down option on the start menu. I need to be able to shutdown via RDP. I have scoured our GPO looking for where I can add this option. I have move the machine to its own OU and verified that User Configuration / Administrative Templates / Start Menu and Taskbar does NOT have the "Remove and Prevent Shut Down" option enabled. I have also used gpedit on the local machine to set this option to Disabled. I have rebooted the machin…
