Question regarding HP compatibility doc
by Guest Gregg Hill- 1 reply

Hello! While on hold with HP, I am looking at page 7 of this document http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-8465ENW.pdf to see if an HP Color LaserJet 3600n is compatible on a 2003 TS. It shows as supported in Citrix and mentions an HP driver under the Host-based column. It does not support PCL or PS, so I cannot map it to a built-in driver. The introduction to the doc seems to indicate that it is specific to Citrix environments and it is not clear (to me) if this doc is applicable to TS **without** Citrix. Is this document specific to Citrix, or if a printer is Citrix compatible it means it is also TS 2003 compatible? I think the latter may b…

Hi, I've got a user who works at home with windows vista and he has a brother hl-5240. When he makes connection to our terminal server 2003 via RDP he can't see the printer and we reveive event id 1111 in our event log. There is a driver installed on our terminal server 2003 for windows 2000, xp and 2003. How can we solve this? Do I have to install the driver for windows vista on our terminal server 2003? Thx.

Remote Desktop Users - Security Group
by Guest Bob- 4 replies

Hi, I find that users who are members of Domain Users and Remote Desktop Users can establish a connection to the Windows 2003 Server just fine. But when this same user attempts to connect to their workstation, the Windows XP TS will not allow the connection. If I add Domain Admin and Administrators to the user, they can then also connect the Windows XP TS. How can I allow a user to connect to their own workstation without making them an Administrator? Thanks! --- Bob

I've been using Terminal Server recently for many of my accounting software clients. I am using Adagio accounting software from Softrak Systems of Vancouver http://www.softrak.com I love the idea of using Terminal Services but am encountering the following printing problem: My client is using Adagio and I moved them over to a Terminal Server environment within the last 3 months. They are a heavy Order Entry user and we moved to Terminal Server to get the speed and performance of Adagio up. I have a fair number of clients running Terminal Server with Adagio, but this one is by far the highest volume with Order Entry transactions. When logging into terminal…

Hi! I am running Windows Terminal Services in Application Mode on a Windows Server 2003 machine. The users at the office premises are gettting access to the server from their desktop with the Remote Desktop Protocol client, through the LAN. Currently they are also able to log on remotely from their home through the Internet. I wish to block this access for some of them. Is there a way to do that? Help appreciated Nicolas

I have a lot of users on a terminal service farm and these users are in 6 different physical locations. Assigning New IPSec Policy to terminal server
by Guest SJMP- 9 replies

When I right click and apply a new IPSec policy in group policy the policy is assigned. Then "to make sure that clients respond to the TS requests for security" I right click the Client (Respon Only) and assign it. But this changes the IPSec policy to NO for "Policy Assigned" it seems like I cannot have them both assigned. Can someone please explain this to me. I am following KB 816521 Thanks.

I have a Terminal Services setup running on the domain controller. Everthing is OK logging on as administrator, but when I try to use my AD user account, I get the message "To log on to the remote computer, you must be granted the Allow logon through Terminal Services right" I cannot logon, even though that right appears to be set correctly in the Remote Desktop Users profile. What can I do to get past this problem?

GP/OU Problem/Question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 9 replies

In a VirtualPC setup (test lab), I am using Windows 2003 Server as a DC and a separate Windows 2003 member server as the TS. I am having a problem getting any Group Policy changes to take effect for an XP Pro client that logs into the TS --using what I thought was the proper method of setting this up. Here are my notes on what I have done so far: 1. Create OU & GPO for the TS: a. In AD of DC, create an OU called: 'Terminal Servers' b. Move TS machine into this OU. c. Right click 'Terminal Servers' OU, and go to properties. Click on GP tab d. Click 'New' and name GP (ex, TS Users GP) 2. Create TestUser(s) in AD: a. Create username/password (ex., Test…

Hi all, I'm studying an high availbility solution for my terminal server environment, and I found documentations on NLB and Session directory, and I have some questions: 1) can I host session directory on one of my terminal server cluster node? 2) is session directory cluster aware? 3) does NLB and / or session direcotory require a Domain controller (and if yes, can it be hosted by one NLB node?) thanks

Slow printer access Via Terminal server Network printer vs local
by Guest Jerry Alan Braga- 3 replies

We have 2 terminal servers in which we run our applications. The printers on the terminal servers are mapped via login script to a central print server. All of the servers are running windows 2003 SP2 (not R2). We have be noticing printing lag and from what I see there seems to be a big difference in the time it take to communicate to a networked printer from the terminal server between using a networked version of the printer via the print server and adding the printer locally to the terminal server and creating the network port directly to it. If I right click on the shared version and click properties it takes on average approx 5-7 seconds to brin…

Install programs using Group Policy

I am trying to use GP to install Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint viewers for a number of Terminal Services users. Microsoft Office 2003 is already installed on the Terminal Server but I want to use the viewers because we don't have enough Office licenses. First question is how to deploy the applications? This is what I did ; - Downloaded the MSI installer for Powerpoint 2007. - Created OU and GPO and assigned a package to it in User Configuration. - I didn't use MST. This doesn't seem to work. Second question is how to force the users to use the viewers instead of the full programs i.e Powerpoint viewer instead of Powerpoint when they open a document? …

Hi; I got the following message when I logon to my Windows 2003 Terminal Server, how can I fix it. "Your terminal services temporary client licence will expire in 5 days" I did purchase the Terminal Services CAL and activating in a couple years ago but when I looked at the Windows Server 2003 - terminal server per user CAL token, I found nothing there. I saw it before. I only found some computer name listed in "Temporary License for Windows 2003....." cert only. Why? -- Kane

Mandatory TS user profiles... Admin rights
by Guest Noncentz303- 8 replies

The lowdown- I have been tasked with setting up our TS enviorment so that when a user logs on they have limited access to the desktop and startbar. From what I have read this can be accomplished with TS user profiles. We have a SBS and 2 TS "TS1 and TS2" I am new at this but this is what i have accomplished so far: I created a new GPO and a new OU for TS1 and 2 -I created a shared folder on TS1 called TSProfiles -I created a test user and added it to the new GPO -I enabled loopback processing -I enabled admin security group to roaming profiles -Set the path for TS roaming profiles :\\TS1\TSProfiles * appends username Then I went to my test user and s…

Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 Default securitypreventing connection from internet

Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 Default securitypreventing connection from internet I have a Server 2008 Enterprise x86 system sitting at home, which I use to run various game servers and whatnot. For whatever reason, since I upgraded (I formatted and re-installed to not leave junk behind during the upgrade), I have not been able to access Terminal Services from the Internet. I haven't changed the firewall at all, and the server can still be accessed for other services but for Terminal Services, it gives a connection refused. I've even tried connecting to the router's external IP from inside, and it still gives a connection refused. I only h…

Permission Issue? Icons Denied in Terminal Services
by Guest KWME- 7 replies

I was working on my server this afternoon trying to get a printer to work on Terminal Services. I must have changed something, and I can't remember what. When users log-on to the terminal server they get the following message when clicking on almost all of the icons on the desktop and start menu "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." One weird thing is that the internet explorer icon works perfectly. I've checked and rechecked the share permissions and can't find a problem. I rebuilt the mandatory profile. I've checked the group policy and can't find a problem. I'm at wi…

TS connect to a License Server from DMZ
by Guest Dag- 4 replies

Hi, what needs to be done for the following scenario: A web server in DMZ needs to be setup to use a Terminal Licensing server so more than 3 people can connect at once. It is not apart of the domain and it is a firewall between the web server and the licensing server. I've tried to open up for port 135 and port 5000-5100 in the firewall. I've set up the rpc dynamic ports to be static on both machines( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154596 ). And rebooted both of them. But it still can't find the licensing server. What have I missed?
