New RDP Client
by Guest Jordan- 4 replies

There are about 50 -100 computers that I have to access with RDP. In the version that came with XP I could create 1 RDP file and save my Username, Password, and Domain and leave the computer name blank. This way when I needed to connect to a computer I could just enter the computer name. Is there a way to force this new version to do the following: 1. NEVER again prompt me for any computer past and present about connected devices, the clipboard, printers, etc? 2. Stop changing my saved usersname and password from: UserName - MySavedName Password - Domain - MyDomain to UserName - Current logged on name Password - Domain - Remote Computer N…

64bit Windows 2008 Terminal Services and printing
by Guest Alex- 9 replies

Does anyone know whether we should expect to run into printer driver issues when connecting a 32bit Windows client PC to a 64bit Windows 2008 Terminal Server? I assume that the 64bit Windows 2008 Server machine will need to have 64bit printer drivers installed. But will the old 32bit printer drivers installed on our client PCs work or must some kind of update be done? Thank you! ---Alex

Problem with Win 2008 TS Easy Print
by Guest Trygve Lorentzen- 1 reply
Hi, we have serious issue with the new feature "Easy Print" in 2008 server. The problem is that the physical margins of the local/client printers are not carried over to the easy print driver on the TS. This is not a big issue with all software that has a proper page setup dialogue with settings for all 4 margins. The problem arises with software that depends on the physical margins set in the print driver to place the print correctly. Is there any settings for this? Like "Use physical margins from printer driver", somewhere in registry perhaps, or in a settings file. I have spent a few days trying to make this work and I'm running out of ideas... Mayb…

Temp Linceses not being cleared
by Guest BadBug- 1 reply

Hi I currently have a terminal server licensing server issue. I have one server in my domain hosting the terminal server licensing service. This server is also a DC and runs 2003 R2. I currently have valid purchased licenses registered. All of it has been handed out and now I am handing out temp licenses for the 2003 products. I now have this issues where a machine got a temp license. The license has expired and in my management console it shows that the license expired on the 5 of June 2007. Now this machine cannot work, because the server is not handing out a new temp license to this client machine. I have restarted the server services. Rebuilt the c…

Session Broker and TS Gateway
by Guest Dylan- 6 replies

I've followed the step-by-step guide for TS Session broker and TS Gateway but was wondering how to make both work together. With TS Session Broker, all TS servers are published on the DNS with the same farm name in a round robin fashion but TS Gateway manages TS servers with security group. HOw can one publish just the Gateway server to public facing and still achive load balancing using TS Session Broker without publish IP of the TS servers? Thanks.

I am running a terminal server and have a gpo in place. I have it set to delete cached roaming profiles. I have it set to keep only the windows install information for each user and this is stored on another drive. The problem is deleting the cached profiles was working and now it is not and I cannot figure out why. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it. Thanks -- Gary Story Network Analyst

Bypassing Application Check for Terminal Services
by Guest langelgjm- 5 replies

I work for a small business, and I have been using Remote Desktop to work from home and school quite happily for the past 3 years. We recently purchased an upgrade to one of our manufacturing software packages (this is high-priced CAD/CAM stuff, complete with hardware security dongles), and I just discovered that the "upgrade" no longer allows the application to be run over Remote Desktop. This wasn't disclosed anywhere. I called the distributor, and was told that my options are to buy a network key and another license for the software, which will cost several thousand dollars, or to use a service like GoToMyPC or VNC. Frankly, I'm at a loss; I don't understand: …

How to run a script when a user logs onto Term Srv
by Guest pdx- 8 replies
I have a Windows 2003 SP2 server running Terminal Services. I want to run a script whenever any user logs onto the Terminal Server. The script will send an email to an administrative mailbox and is a method for actively tracking logons. The "start a program upon connection" gp setting won't work since I don't want to alter the session, I just want the script to run send the email whenever a user logs on to the Terminal Server. Anyone know how I can set up the script to run as planned? Thanks

cannot connect vista to vista.
by Guest breBill- 5 replies

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, so please let me know. We cannot connect from one vista machine to another vista machine using remote desktop connection. When we try using a domain user account, we ge the error "No authority could be contacted for authentication." I have searched quite a bit in vain. It would be helpful if anyone can shine some light on this problem. These are windows vista enterprise and windows vista ultimate computers added to our domain. We can connect to the machines using local accounts. I tried adding the domain user to the administrators account, but that does not help. I'm not sure what the next tro…

My server PC is a Windows Vista with 3 monitors. I've many open applications on it. When I connect to it via a single monitor client PC even using the last Remote Desktop client 6.0 I always have various problems in displaying the windows that are not on the central monitor of the server because these windows often remains out of the visible screen. Are there any programs that automatically manage this problem? I'm sure they exist but I don't know how to find them...

GPO Setting question...TS Sessions related
by Guest Cary Shultz- 5 replies

Good evening! We have a client who has a Terminal Server. I have a GPO that locks things down a bit. Included in this GPO are the following: Active Session Limit: 1 day Idle Session: 3 hours End disconnected session: 30 minutes My question here is: the 'increments' offered by the GPO are a bit lacking. 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours and then 1 day! What if I would like 4 hours? How do I get '4 hours' as an option to this? An option specifically for Idle Session..... And, for Active Session - what if I would like 8 hours as an option? Thanks, Cary

We have locked down our workstations (Hide c:, no cmd, no regedit,) and My documents redirected to the users home. In server 2008 and terminal services all these are ignored. What is the best way to get this done. We would like to see the same lockdown and folder redirection done by our DC's for our XP pro clients translate into TS/s on 2008. Lots of problems for example in 2008 there is no "My Documets" just Username. Kent

I recently tried to install printer software on a Win2k Terminal Server. At the end, it asked to reboot, which I did & it looks like the install hasn't finished, as I get a message about it needing to be in install mode when it boots up. How can I fix this? Thanks- -- Mr. Simpson, there are thousands of people like you with no discernable talent. Yeah, they're called Congress.

Licensing problem...
by Guest Mike- 7 replies

I have a win2k terminal server that XP Pro clients connect to. My DC is a Windows 2003 SBS & I had purchased 5 TS licenses. I had read somewhere that XP Pro clients connecting to a Win2k TS had built in licenses, so I really didn't need to buy the licenses. All that aside, my current problem is that every 3 or 4 months, some of the clients start getting the message that the connection couldn't be made because of an error in the licensing protocol, or something like that. I have always been able to talk the user through deleting the LICENSE000 key, which is a labor in itself, but I would like this fixed once and for all. Where do I start?!?!? -- The …

Printing problems - compatable printers
by Guest JohnB- 5 replies
I had posted something earlier on printing problems and realized that I'm probably going about asking for help here in the wrong way. I'll explain the situation first; I am working a temporary assignment at a company that has about 30 to 40 TS users. They each have their own printer. All clients are XP or Vista, most are XP. The server is 2003 SP2 R2. One of my goals here is to help with their printing problems. All printers are inexpensive personal printers. Most are HP Laserjets; 1006, 1010, 1012, 1015, 1018, 1020, 1022 and 1055. With a few Oki, Brother and HP inkjet printers mixed in. No business class network printers (unfortunately). They…

Vista, 2003 Terminal and printing
by Guest Freaky- 1 reply

Hey there, we're having issues with Windows Vista and printing from terminal server. This works fine when using WindowsXP. We have the issue with multiple printers. For example the Brother HL-2030. The Brother HL-2030 works fine with 2000/XP/2003 over terminal, but not with Vista, in the system logs there are also entries that a driver for Brother HL-2030 could not be found. According to the helpdesk this probably has to do with the different driver model for Vista. For 2000/XP/2003 the drivers are the same, but this isn't the case with Vista, therefore 2003 probably sees it as a different driver than the one it has. Can anyone shed more light on this a…

by Guest BFH- 4 replies

Just added a new administrator to the domain admins group. Unlike the rest of us, she can't get a remote desktop on our DCs (although she can on our member servers). When she tries to connect, she gets this error window: "To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User Access permissions on this computer. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have these permissions. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has these permissions, or if the Remote Desktop User group does not have these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually." Huh? This is a Win 2003/S…
