TSAdvertise Feature - how exactly does it work ...
by Guest anonymous- 1 reply

Hi group, does anyone know or have some documents, links, ressources how the tsadvertise feature exactly works? I was wondering because I enabled the registry key (according to KB281307) on all of our servers that we access using RDP and now I am able to see all servers in my RDP-client. Of course that's what I wanted. But for interesst I'd like to know why I also see servers in other network segments. So it is for sure no broadcast mechanism. But how does it work instead? tia for your help Greetings, Marco

Hi, I am using a WinXP SP3 to connect on a Win2K8 terminal server through a TS Gateway but i keep getting the message "The computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Terminal Services Gateway Server address is unreachable or incorrect.Type a valid server address". The server running the TS Gateway role is also running the TS Web Access role. The same thing happens when i try to connect to a remote application using Web Access. Although I am able to connect to the remote applications webpage, as soon as I double click on a remote application I end up with the same message. I have terminal server that appears to have a screensaver being enabled through the users desktop policy. We have the desktop policy set to lock after 10 minutes. When they are logged into TS, both sessions will lock. The local desktop and the TS desktop. They are not disconnected. I have the TS screen saver disabled through group policy but the screensaver still starts after 10 minutes. Is there a way to prevent the desktop sreen saver policy from being applied to the TS Session? Thanks for the help, Jeff

VPN connections on TS server
by Guest SJMP- 6 replies

Terminal Server 2003. I have routing and remote access configured. I see the users connect to the server. But when I try to make a remote access connection back to their machine the entire connection including the client (remote) machine gets hung. I disconnect the session from the routing and remote access console, but the remote machine gets hung. The remote machine is running Vista SP1. The problem is only on this 1 remote access server (TermServer). My old TS running windows 2003 sp2 can make the connection fine. Any idea? I am trying to look through group policy to see if something is blocking this connection from working properly Thanks, SJM…

by Guest Derek Disconnect- 6 replies

An Epson TM-T88IIIP printer is connected to my local (client) computer running windows XP. I can print to it using port ESDPRT001 with description LPT1. When I remote using windows remote desktop to my server which is a Dell Poweredge 830 running windows server 2003 R2 64, I cannot print. I have read that any port that does not begin with COM, LPT, or USB are not redirected using remote desktop. Do you have any suggestions for me to be able to print? I do have another printer that uses port DOT4_001 and is a multifunction printer. I can print to this printer when I use remote desktop. Derek

Lexmark X5270 on 2003 TS
by Guest Gregg Hill- 7 replies
Hello! I called Lexmark and asked if the X5270 had terminal server compatible drivers for Windows Server 2003. I got a tech who seemed confused when I mentioned terminal server, but he did find a 2003 driver. When pressed to tell me if it was TS-compatible, he hesitated, asked someone else, and then said it was compatible. Due to the nature of the conversation and the hesitancy in his voice, I decided to ask here for real-world experience. So, does anyone know if the drivers for the Lexmark X5270 are really compatible with TS 2003, or perhaps which printer map I can use safely? Some Google searches have said to try an HP LaserJet 4 driver, but this …

I have just taken over a 25 node network that is set up with Windows 2000 SBS, and Windows 2000 Terminal Server on 2 boxes. the main server runs the applications needed for the local group, and the Terminal server facilitates remote users who access the same program and data structure set up as a terminal service via vpn connections. they have a firewall set to administer dhcp address to the remote hosts. my question is this, i have noticed that the Terminal Server is set to run in Remote Administration mode, yet it was set up in Application Server mode almost 2 years ago when it was set up. my understanding is this... in RA mode, the server should not …

IE 6 settings in a TS environment
by Guest Nancy R- 0 replies
Hi folks, I apologize if this is the wrong forum but I have an unusual issue that only occurs on our TS servers, it does not happen on our client workstations. We are running 2 Citrix PS 4.0 servers on Windows Server 2003 SP1. What is happening is every 1-2 days the Internet Explorer settings get changed so that Outlook Express is the default mail client instead of Outlook. Our end users then run into problems when trying to send e-mail from within MS Office and other programs. We have a very limited group of users (6) who have the ability to even view the IE Programs tab, let along change it. I have spoken with all of them and they assure me the…

Windows Server 2008 and redirected printer names
by Guest Saucer Man- 7 replies
Is there a way to prevent the redirected printers in a client session from displaying a number which changes after the word "redirected"? This is causing an issue with applications that remember the name of the last printer used. The application might remember "redirected 2" and the next time a client connects the print job fails because it is now called redirected 3". -- Thanks!

by Guest henrik.frolund- 0 replies

I have a mysterious problem on my Vista Business SP1 - Danish When I try to connect to one of our Windows 2008 servers, mstsc hangs on the Vista. I have tried to run the mstsc as an administrator and with the /admin but with no luck. I can connect smoothly to our Windows 2003 servers - it is only the 2008 servers that is giving me the struggle. The problem is as follows: I start the mstsc with windows key+R then run the command mstsc /admin. The start window is showing up, and I type in the server i want to connect to, then i choose "Another account" and type in my admin username with domain prefix and password. Now the mstsc window stops running (no…

Log on time restricitons
by Guest FL- 4 replies

I have a Windows 2003 64bit TS server and before you suggest using the 2x secure RDP tool, it doesn't work on a 64bit system. I am looking to apply log on restrictions where users cannot log in on my terminal server after a certain period of time. Is there any way to do that via Group Policy or other method that only affects log ons to the terminal server? Also, can I restrict the domain account from being able to log in via TS only (don't think so)?

He, I installed a ticket printer on the remote workstation and in the printer properties I set that the printer needs to print a logo stored in the printer-memory and also the cash draw must be opened. If I print via local software this works (test-page). When I print via de remote session, only the ticket is printed. The logo is not printed and the cash draw is not opened. Where do I set the properties for the printer ? Server : Windows SBS 2003 SP2 Workstation : Windows XP Pro SP2 Thanks Luc

by Guest Chris Thomas- 6 replies

I am running Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.5 on a Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server SP2 with Terminal Services. The server is an HP Proliant DL320 G5 with 3 GB of RAM and a Dual Core Xeon 2.66 GHz processor. We do not publish applications on our Citrix server just a desktop. All users use the Citrix Program Neighborhood client, version 10.100.55836. We are experiencing a problem with this server that has been going on for nearly a year now and we could really use some help. The problem starts when a user calls the Help Desk and tells us that they can't get into Citrix. We then attempt to connect as well as get the same problem. You pu…

Connecting to users desktop PC without losing IE 6 Trusted Sites
by Guest bstillion- 8 replies

Users logon to their PCs while at the office and their IE6 trusted sites are populated through a WINBATCH script. When the same user logs on from home to the TS/Citrix server and then RDP's to their desktop, all Trusted Sites get deleted. When the user returns to the office the next day, he must log on twice before his trusted sites are restored. Windows Server 2003 AD, no policies are applying any IE settings (confirmed by Microsoft Support.) including no "loopback" policy applied to the terminal servers. One of my steps to resolve was to apply a list of Trusted Sites to the default domain policy. My manager suggested moving it since that is not the b…
