I get the proper window when I enter the ip address of my home compuetr followed by /tsweb but I also get this message: Remote Desktop Web Connection ActiveX control is not installed. A connection cannot be made without a working installed version of the control. Click here to install the updated Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client. When I click it brings me to a page explaining that I need the Client software RDC 6.1 but that it has been installed with Svc Pk 3. Does anyone no what's going on?

Log on time restricitons
by Guest FL- 4 replies

I have a Windows 2003 64bit TS server and before you suggest using the 2x secure RDP tool, it doesn't work on a 64bit system. I am looking to apply log on restrictions where users cannot log in on my terminal server after a certain period of time. Is there any way to do that via Group Policy or other method that only affects log ons to the terminal server? Also, can I restrict the domain account from being able to log in via TS only (don't think so)?

MODI keeps setting as the default printer. I even tried uninstalling it and it still sets as default. THe weird thing is that it is only doing this for one of our divisions. We have 3 other divisions on the same terminal server and their printer default stays as selected.

Users cant access Share
by Guest John F Kappler- 2 replies

I'm not sure if this is a Terminal Server issue or an SBS issue but I'll start here.... We have a Terminal Server (2003) connected on to a Domain controlled by an SBServer 2003 R2. The SBServer has, on its C drive, a folder which is cleared for sharing by "Everyone" with Full Control. Users on their PCs can access this folder, open files, run programs, etc. On the Terminal Server, we can also do all these things if we log in as an Administrator, but if we log in as a Domain user, then we get an error message "Your current security settings do not allow this action" I've checked all the sharing settings on the folder, but given they can get there fro…

Hi, I am using a WinXP SP3 to connect on a Win2K8 terminal server through a TS Gateway but i keep getting the message "The computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Terminal Services Gateway Server address is unreachable or incorrect.Type a valid server address". The server running the TS Gateway role is also running the TS Web Access role. The same thing happens when i try to connect to a remote application using Web Access. Although I am able to connect to the remote applications webpage, as soon as I double click on a remote application I end up with the same message. The same WinXP client is able to connect to the terminal server directlly …

Is there a way to make the user's desktop read-only upon login? Is this even a good idea? I just hate when users start saving all their docs to the desktop...so I figure if they can't save to the desktop this will force them save to their my docs or public folder. - anthonyx26

Good morning! Okay, Okay......I know that several of you in here will kill me for this! Vera, Patrick, Jeff,.....sorry...but I did not do this!!!! I am simply trying to fix some things and want to make sure that I do not break things in the process.... Anyway, a client has a small Terminal Server farm (two servers). A Terminal Server Profile was not implemented. Yikes! I know! Anyway, most are using a Thin Client but some still use a PC / Laptop to access the Terminal Server. Some of the of these good people are Sales Folks who are almost never in the office and log on to their laptops locally (read: the "log on to:" part is populated with "myma…

Bootable thin client
by Guest ~~Alan~~- 1 reply

I am new to learning and getting involved with Terminal Services. I'm trying to learn this on my own. I have a few older PCs that in order to run Windows, they need a lot of upgrading which takes money and I do not want to have to deal with the basic windows maintenance, licenseing, etc. I would like to know if anyone knows of a bootable, probably linux based and free, OS that will turn an older PC into a thin client? thanks, ~alan

Connecting to users desktop PC without losing IE 6 Trusted Sites
by Guest bstillion- 8 replies
Users logon to their PCs while at the office and their IE6 trusted sites are populated through a WINBATCH script. When the same user logs on from home to the TS/Citrix server and then RDP's to their desktop, all Trusted Sites get deleted. When the user returns to the office the next day, he must log on twice before his trusted sites are restored. Windows Server 2003 AD, no policies are applying any IE settings (confirmed by Microsoft Support.) including no "loopback" policy applied to the terminal servers. One of my steps to resolve was to apply a list of Trusted Sites to the default domain policy. My manager suggested moving it since that is not the b…

Restoring Terminal Server licenses
by Guest JK in Nebraska- 1 reply

My SBS 2003 server crashed the other day. When I restored system state, several key applications would not run. In order to get the system back up and running, I ended up with a new installation then restored AD and Exchange. One of my remaining problems is that this server also acted as a terminal services license server. Unfortunately, all of the terminal server license ducumentation was misplaced during a recent move and I have yet to locate them. Is there a way to recover the terminal server licenses from backup without restoring the system state?

He, I installed a ticket printer on the remote workstation and in the printer properties I set that the printer needs to print a logo stored in the printer-memory and also the cash draw must be opened. If I print via local software this works (test-page). When I print via de remote session, only the ticket is printed. The logo is not printed and the cash draw is not opened. Where do I set the properties for the printer ? Server : Windows SBS 2003 SP2 Workstation : Windows XP Pro SP2 Thanks Luc

ts fallback driver wont switch from pcl to ps
by Guest kejs_zg1- 1 reply

I have a windows server 2003 terminal server so i told my group policy to use fallback pcl driver and then deleted printer drivers from terminal server. and indeed it fallsback to deskjet 500, but when clients print some reports they dont come out right. so i manually changed driver to 4/4m ps and it prints out fine. so i said okay, and told my group policy to fallback to ps driver, all printers are hp and support ps, gpupdated ts server, rebooted. and this morning they all use 500 pcl driver again. so how do i make them use ps instead of pcl fallback driver.

License Issued 0
by Guest Yuri NLD- 3 replies

Hi, I’ve installed Terminal Server Licensing on two Domain Controller’s. The servers are activated and TS User CAL’s are installed. (MPLS agreement) When I start the Terminal Server Licensing Tool on the Terminal Server it discover the two DC’s. Only the column Issued is 0 I didn’t expect that because yours are logged on. I’ve checked: - license mode on the TS and it is Per User - no errors in the TS event viewer when users log on - no errors in de DC event viewer when users log on - I’m using auto discovery mode (and it works, because the TS automatically shows me the two DC’s) I found this article: http://blogs.msdn.com/ts/archive/2008/02/01/li…

Hi folks, I have used the MMC Terminal Services snap-in (%SystemRoot%\system32\tscmmc.msc /s) on my XP Pro machine to access several of our servers for administrative functions. It was very handy to have a list of servers down the left side of the MMC. When I would click on one of the entries it would connect to that server and open up that desktop in the right MMC panel. However, after installing XP SP3 the MMC now gives me an error (see attachment). If I accept the "Ignore Error" option it opens up the MMC, my servers are still listed on the left but clickon them has not effect. Any ideas or suggestions? By the way this has happened to two XP …

An Epson TM-T88IIIP printer is connected to my local (client) computer running windows XP. I can print to it using port ESDPRT001 with description LPT1. When I remote using windows remote desktop to my server which is a Dell Poweredge 830 running windows server 2003 R2 64, I cannot print. I have read that any port that does not begin with COM, LPT, or USB are not redirected using remote desktop. Do you have any suggestions for me to be able to print? I do have another printer that uses port DOT4_001 and is a multifunction printer. I can print to this printer when I use remote desktop. Derek

virtual channel implementation
by Guest v.mont- 2 replies

I'm trying to implement a pair of components to handle communication over a virtual channel. I believe I have the client component done okay, and it sends a string on the virtual channel. On the server side, the second component is waiting for the read. But it never receives anything. All calls on both sides (open/write on client, and open on server side pass ok... ) So I have a few general questions, hopefully someone can help: 1. Is it okay to activate the server component manually (for test purposes)? It is currently implemented as a console app. 2. the client sends data right after VirtualChannelOpen returns okay. I do see the event coming back a…

RemoteApp vs. full Remote Desktop
by Guest Blake- 3 replies

I've read in some places where I can give a user access to a RemoteApp WITHOUT giving them full remote desktop. I've also read the opposite. Can I give someone the ability to use RemoteApp (Windows 2008 TS server, obviously) without giving them the ability to actually log into a full fledged deskop via RDP? ie - I'd like to keep them off the desktop for security reasons. Thanks Blkae

Windows Server 2008 and redirected printer names
by Guest Saucer Man- 7 replies

Is there a way to prevent the redirected printers in a client session from displaying a number which changes after the word "redirected"? This is causing an issue with applications that remember the name of the last printer used. The application might remember "redirected 2" and the next time a client connects the print job fails because it is now called redirected 3". -- Thanks!
