Terminal Server Events 1004 & 4105
by Guest Saucer Man- 6 replies

I am getting this Informational event logged on my terminal server (server 2008) whenever someone connects to it from within our domain. 1004 - "The terminal server cannot issue a client license. It was unable to issue the license due to a changed (mismatched) client license, insufficient memory, or an internal error. Further details for this problem may have been reported at the client's computer." We have 5 per user TS Cals installed. A Microsoft rep stated that per user Cals cannot be tracked and that this message is normal. I felt perhaps he was a little unsure about this as my call to them was actually on another issue. Does anyone know if this…

Remote Desktop Second Console
by Guest Smurfman- 10 replies

Recently a patch or settings, I am assuming something with SP3 on XP or Remote Desktops patch, has changed the way I use Remote Desktop to connect to servers. It used to be from my XP Pro machine I could use Remote Desktop to connect to a server and log in as an administrator. If I was logging in as the same admin that was logged in, I would simply take over that session and the screen would lock, if I logged off it logged off the Admin or if I disconnected, it would just leave the server locked. NOW - when I connect to a Windows 2003 Server, it seems that instead of taking over the session that is already logged in, a new / second console is starte…

Terminal Services Setup
by Guest NC Beach Bum- 1 reply

I have been using Terminal Services for myself to do server administration for several years. I VPN on the firewall and then hit the servers for admin work. I have been tasked with creating a proposal for select employees to work from home which will require file share access, Outlook, and client server database application. The existing VPN to the desktop is great as long as it's a good Internet connection on the remote end. However, my concern is when folks are in a hotel on a shared connection and they simply don't have the bandwidth my phone will be ringing off the hook with whiners. Is a terminal services setup the best route on this? W…

Hi!! As Admin I can check/uncheck the Protected mode option from within IE no problem. As a Domain User, the option is greyed out. not Group Policy. Running an RSOP on the local machine shows Protected mode for all zones as Disabled, yet the box is still checked and greyed out rendering our new TS useless for the moment. Any ideas? Paul.

NLB Mgr question
by Guest Neil Burk- 3 replies
I am using NLB on 5 hosts runing 2003 Terminal Server. The only way I can get a reliable connection to the VIP is to configure them in Unicast mode. According to MS documentation I should be able to use nlb mgr (gui) to manage the cluster, from a host outside of the cluster but it does not work. When I connect to VIP with nlb mgr, 3 of the hosts are "unreachable" according to nlb mgr. These hosts are available via ping, rdp, tracert, etc. I have enabled "Remote Connections" in nlb mgr, I have configured DCOM to allow the udp connection - still does not work. Any ideas.

Windows - Jobs, Interview Questions, Certification
by Guest Naveen- 0 replies

Hi, In the very fast moving IT Industry, there is a need for the people to keep a note of what is happening in the field, what are the latest Jobs available and in which technologies they are available and what companies and also in which cities. And also when applying for Jobs, it is obvious for people to look for Interview Questions in their Technologies and if they are able to find it all at one place, then they can concentrate on studying or doing R&D further on those questions and answers available. And for a better pay pack people are always in a mood of doing certification and at that time they are on a lookout for certification material an…

2008 Easy Print problem
by Guest Steve- 2 replies
We have deployed Navision (MS Application) via TS 2008 . All client printers are using the Easy Print driver. Quite often, when users try to print from this published remote application to the redirected printer, they send the job to the printer, but the printer does not produce any output. If I watch their session, it doesn't appear that the job ever reaches the que of the client created printer. To resolve, I have been having them close their application and reopen, and that has mostly worked, but I am looking for resolution. I do not see any errors in the Event viewer related to this. Thank you, steve

Client Discovery Process

Hello Community, does anyone have a detailed description (beside the one from BMadden) how the License Check is done for a Client? I have an issue with a Dual NAT connection and the Winlogon does never happen, so I assume it's stuck at the validation check of the TS cal. Thanks for the replies Carsten

windows 2008 Terminal Server suddenly had no drive space
by Guest slj333- 4 replies
I am wondering if anyone else has seen this or knows what may have caused this. On our W2k8 TS server (current on MS patching), we have ~30 users running a published application (MS Navision). Yesterday afternoon, a user got the message that the server was out of drive space. I logged into the console, and there was 0 disk space left. I had been in the server earlier in the day and there was 18GB of space left. I did a search for large files and found no unusual ones. I then calculated the folders (starting at c:) and found that there should still have been roughly 18GB of space left. I deleted a few unncessary files to see what would happen, and immed…

Windows 2008 in TS role, no sound devices?
by Guest mat- 6 replies
I would like to test windows 2008 in it's terminal services role. In particular I would like to see how it does with sound playback and recording from remote workstations. I've installed it on an older pc and the built in audio chip is not recognized (asus K8N motherboard). If I buy a windows 2008 compatible soundcard, will I be able to proceed with my testing? Can anyone recommend a card? Seems like an obvoius question but I wanted to confirm.

Need Windows CAL plus TS CAL?
by Guest mat- 1 reply

There was a good disucssion of this back in Jan, but I don't recall a certain outcome. Most of the thread participants seemed to think that a Windows CAL had to be purchased for each TS user/CAL. Others thought only the TS CAL was needed?
