by Guest jim- 4 replies

I would like to host an application (combination of TS and Citrix) on a machine with 32 CPU's and 128GB of Physical RAM using Windows Data Center 2003., I know I have to use SPLA for TS Licensing, but now I'm being told I cannot use Datacenter because it is for anonymous not authenticated access. How than, do I scale to 32 processors and 128GB of RAM ? Can I get some Datacenter Licensing clarity here please ?

User licensing
by Guest Markus- 9 replies

I am planning to install Server 2003 and need some advice on licensing. My client needs a maximum of 10 concurrent users using an application. However, they have hundreds of employees, any one of which could be one of the 10 concurrent users. On the server side, I understand Server 2003 comes with 5 CALs, so I assume I will need 5 additional CALs. But am not sure what other licenses I need. I read about roaming users, and would assume I need per user licensing for 10 roaming users, since the 10 users on any one day could log in from different departments and so different devices. Could someone clarify just what licensing I would need for this conf…

Roaming profile on Terminal Servers
by Guest Sam_Kedren- 6 replies

Hi, This is my first post on the forum, I hope to come here often as we have Terminal Servers set up in our network environment. I have a problem with roaming profiles. Here's the scenario, there are three terminal servers and they are set up for load balancing. When a user log onto a TS server, the load balancing will work its magic and direct the users to one of the three Terminal Servers, the profiles are located on Terminal Server 1, however when the user gets redirected to another terminal server, the profiles does not get moved acrossed. For example, the My Document path is set for Terminal Server 1, but the path aren't pointing to Termi…

Re: TS CAL Monitoring and Alerting Hi, I've seen some artiles about Terminal Services License Server WMI provider to monitor available lisences. They use the following classes: Win32_TSIssuedLicense Win32_TSLicenseKeyPack Win32_TSLicenseReport Win32_TSLicenseReportEntry Win32_TSLicenseServer I couldn't find these clases on my W2k3 TS Licensing servers, I suppose it's because they require TlsWmiProv.mof Does anyone know how to get it installed? Thanks!! Regards, Lu. "Vera Noest [MVP]" wrote: > I agree that that would be a nice feature. > > I would schedule a batchfile to run once a day. Run lsreport, and > parse the out…

Migrating from Per-Device to Per-User Licenses
by Guest Marla- 2 replies

We have an existing Terminal Server/TLS using Per-Device licenses. Some of these licenses are expiring soon. We have purchased new Terminal Server Per-User licenses and a second Terminal Server/TLS. We would like to install half of the licenses on each Terminal Server/TSL for disaster response purposes. Each Terminal Server/TLS is located in a DMZ, but we have opened communication between the two servers just to each other. I am proposing to apply half of the new Per-User licenses to the second Terminal Server. As my 15 Per-Device licenses expire, will those users be able to access the Per-User licenses on the other licensing server, even if th…

User logs off strait after logging on
by Guest HellslayeR- 8 replies

Hello. I'm having a problem with Windows 2008 TS and Thin Clients. When my thin clients are using rdp to connect to the 2008 TS it works ace and I get the screen where you are asked for username/password. Right after I've typed that in and hit enter the user will log off. I then have to repeate the prosess 2-3 times and then suddenly it logs on to the TS just fine. I can also be "lucky" and it will log on the TS on the first attempt. I have 3 Windows 2008 TS and they all behave like this. EventID only logs that there has been a log on and a log off from my test user, it says nothing about failed attempts. Does anyone have a idea? Will provide mor…

I have a medium sized distribunted communitiy of devices. My license sever tells mr that cals allocated to the same machine name. Are the any utilities that can show move information regarding the machine as I want to avoid asking the users to look at their terminal settings. I suspect there is a faulty terminal which is taking more than one license but I cannot eaasily find it as the machine name is not listed against any logged in sessions but licenses continue to be allcated to this machine name. Multi-site Licensing question
by Guest APT SA- 6 replies

We have a multi-site environment with our Citrix-TS servers in the HQ site. We are planning on deploying a distributed TS application that would run in the remote sites. I wanted to put license servers in the remote sites so they would get their licenses in their own sites. This will be fine when connecting to distributed app in their site but will it affect their access when they connect to TS app in HQ office. In other words if you have TS and license server in site 1 and client and license server in site 2, if client connects to site 1 will it have to pull CAL over WAN and/or will it attempt to get a new license from license server in site 1 even th…

Local Intranet Zone

I want all my terminal servers to have a specific server added to their Local Policy zone in their internet options. Where do i do that at? I am hoping there is a flag inside the GPO for the terminal servers. Everytime I have a new user login their apps fail. After the user adds the server to the local intranet zone all works ok. i don't want to have to do this for 400+ users if there is a way to do it in a policy. Thanks,

Missing files/folders
by Guest Grainne- 6 replies

We have a customer that uses terminal services with small business server 2003. Frequently they come to us with a recurring issue wherebey folders/files have disappeared, when they search for them, they are found in a different location. They have asked there users and no-one is admitting to moving them manually. However, one user said when he was working remotely his screen flickered and the folder/files he was looking at had disappeared, we found them the next day in a different location. Normally, we would put this down to user error, however today we logged onto their server remotely to move some folder/files for them that had been moved to a diffe…

IP Printer goes offline in Terminal Server session
by Guest niles- 5 replies

I have a printer setup with a Linksys print server. If I add this printer as a local printer to my computer, I can print all day with no problems. If I add this printer onto our terminal server so that our offsite users can print to it, it will work for one or two pages, then go into offline mode. If I delete the printer and re-add it, it will work again for one or two pages, then it will go offline. I can continuously ping the print server even when it is showing that it is offline. Any ideas?

Hi There, I have 2 questions regarding Windows 2008 Web TS I have configured web ts and it all appears to be working, when I login within the network I am not prompted for login credentials to display the webpart containing the remoteapps but I do receive a request for login credentials when I try to launch one of the remoteapps. How do I stop this second login? Question 2; Is there any way or removing the re…

Security Exception required to run the TSPDRW
by Guest SteveM- 6 replies

I am running Server 2003 as a Terminal Server. In order to resolve some printing issues I am trying to run the Terminal Server Printer Driver Redirection Wizard (TSPDRW). After launching the tspdrw.exe I get a dialogue box saying 'The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. The operation required the SecurityException.' I would like to know how to grant the application the required permission or alternatively how to use the Microsoft .NET security policy administration tool. (Both of these being suggested as ways forward by the dialogue box). Full details of the error thrown up by the dialogue box are copie…
