Problem connecting to db
by Guest SimonW- 3 replies

Hi Folks Problems opening a database application through a Windows Terminal Services window. The application records its database path in an initialisation file normally written to \windows (windir) Traditionally (for remote users accessing the application on the TS through their TS client window) this file is copied to each remote users' \windows folders on the Terminal Server computer The application starts but fails to connect to the database recorded in the *.ini - An error message is displayed in the Terminal Services window as follows Error 75 (path) This is clearly a result of the initialisation file not being detected. Or I may be …

User CALs installed as Device CALs?!?!
by Guest Gareth Hughes- 9 replies

Help! I have recently taken over support of a client with the following scenario: 1 x SBS2003 box running PDC, Exchange & SQL 1 x Server 2003 Std box running Terminal Services to 6 users The customer has an open licence for all the software including 6 USER TS CALs On replacing a Thin Client, I am informed that I cannot connect to RDP as there are no licences available. Odd I thought... Looking at TS Licencing, it is set to "Per Device" and has 2 sets of licenses installed: 4 x TS Device CALS, 5 x TS Device CALs, all of which are allocated to a mixture of new and old hardware. My questions are: 1, How can I change the system to Per User and…

Dear Sir/Madam, Am using windows server 2003 enterprise edition as Terminal server with 30 profiles, from last 15 days my Terminal server is getting hung randomly and there is no error log in event viewer and have checked with Dell (as am using Dell server) and get the clearance that there is no problem with hardware. I’ve checked with AV and spyware remover also but problem remain the same. Since we are using this server for Microsoft applications (word, excel, outlook and PowerPoint) and one more recruitment software is installed on this (HIRECRAFT) which is working on .net 2.0 and 1. Pls. help me further to resolve this problem. Thinking in advance for…

MS Access loads but does not run. Server is a 2003 R2, Enterprise Setup Terminal Server OK ; licensing looks OK Successfully installed MS Access 2003 on server (change user /install and back to /execute) . I can run it from the Server box itself, and create new MDB's, etc. From a Remote Desktop I can run MS Access, but can not open and run existing MDB's or create new ones No error messages - just nothing happens. This is my first time experimenting with TS

Terminal Services to run apps
by Guest TomMiami- 2 replies

Here's what we have: 5user SBS2003 domain running sqlsvr with 5 attached PCs We would like to add 5 external users via TS. We have licenses for the additional 3rd party software that we want to run. Here are the questions: Can I have 5 internal users and 5 external (TS) users simultaneously connected to the domain server; internals running software on their machines and the externals running in individual instances on the server? I ask because it appears (casually among TS resources ) that I may require an additional machine or ‘TS server’ just for the TS/App server. I know I can connect via TS to the domain server and run a second instance of my software on…

Client Sleep - Ending session immediatly
by Guest Nick- 2 replies
I have 2003 TS. I have configured idle & disconnect time to 30 minutes using GPO. For laptop power consumption I set the laptops to go to sleep after 10 minutes. As soon as the laptops go to sleep the server ends the session and when the user goes to log back onto the TS a new session is created. I would like for these sessions to disconnect not end. The WLAN driver does not turn off when the laptop sleeps.

Same path to user home folder except by logon server (3 sites/DCs)
by Guest Germano- 2 replies

Hello. I´m looking for a way, of my users logon in three different locations (each one with it´s own DC), getting the home folder setting, from the logonserver of that DC. For example: DC1 DC2 DC3 \\DC1\BigShare\users\user1 \\DC2\BigShare\users\user1 \\DC3\BigShare\users\user1 Only the DC part i need that change. For instance, let´s say one user move from DC1 to DC2, he doesn´t need to change anything, nor me :) I tried to setup DFS... but even using DFS-R (From W2K3 R2), it´s really slowdown the access. When i changed to \\DC1, it returned to the normal speed. I still use logonscripts, so that´s i way, i thought... but searching thro…

Printer access security
by Guest Januar- 0 replies

Hi, I have a HQ where the Terminal service server is deployed. The server is Windows Server 2003 R2 and the clients are Windows XP. We do not deploy VPN between sites. For some reasons a domain is not created so it is a non-DC server. There is a user at a remote office (let's call it UserA) who has a directly connected local printer. Another remote office has a user called UserB. When UserA connects to the Terminal Service, he can print to the local printer. We setup this by connecting the local resources and adding a printer driver on the server. Now, UserB wants to use UserA's printer, but he cannot see the printer. Both users are normal users. If…

backing up questions?
by Guest lenny- 2 replies

Hi, I have a Windows Server with another Terminal Services Server. I have setup a backup on the server to happen every night with a DAT tape. As you might have noticed from earlier posts this is now getting quite full. I have also noticed that there isn't a backup facility on the TS so the main server is backing up C and D on that machine which basically includes all the shared folders that have been setup but nothing is backing up the Database folder on TS or any of the users files under C:\Documents and Settings\User. Each user is using pop3 email through outlook via their TS login so I suppose their emails aren't being backed up either. Any suggesti…

Application caching
by Guest Toni Van Remortel- 20 replies

Hi all, We have set up Server 2008 with Terminal Server for about 10 users. All those users use the same application (a single exe from a network share). The drawback is that when we update the application (in-house development), we need to ask all TS users to log out before they can use the new version. Somehow, the exe is cached by the TS server as long as someone has it open, and TS does not check if the exe on the network share is updated. Is there a way to disable this behavior? When we update the application, a simple close and reopen should open the new version, not the old cached version. Thanks a lot. -- Regards, Toni Van Remortel

TS noob needs license advice to get started
by Guest just bob- 2 replies
Need to get this started. What licensing do I need? I have the OS, Server 2003 STD, ready to go on a VM host. I need to host five sessions who want to use our third-party apps and MS Office 2003, which I do have open license for. I assume I need some sort of terminal service server license and five CAL's? Or does the Server OS, which came with five server CALs, cover part or all of this? If someone knows the software skus from Microsoft or CDW please advise. Thanks, -Bob

2K3 Server - TServer - Office 2007 Licensing scenario
by Guest jueberro- 1 reply

Hello all: I have a terminal server that I want to install office 2007 on. I bought 10 TS User CALS. I have 7 workstations. I have 5 Users but this will grow to 7. Only 4 are in the Remote Desktop Users Group. I need to get Office 2007 Pro installed on those 7 workstations and on the terminal server so that we can set up Business Contact Manager 2007. 4 of these users travel (The 4 set up on terminal server). These 4 use their home computers to come in via RDP from home, and they also come into the tertminal server from hotel business centers etc... They have portables that they sometimes take with them (These are their work computers that they use when…

Hello, I am in the process of setting up a new Terminal Services server. Currently we use 2003 Server with TS installed on a backup server. I have the new server in and was wondering if it would be better to just install Windows 2008 and use the new Terminal services? Currently, 2003 TS has been working well but are limited to printing to a local usb printer. We have one user that was successful in printing to his USB 1022 HP printer. This printer is no longer manufactured so it seems I am running to a dead end on getting local printers to work. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

TSADMIN not working correctly
by Guest GF- 5 replies

Hi all, I have 5 terminal servers in "workgroup" mode (not joined in a domain), two was upgraded from win2000srv to win2003std. The servers work correctly, but running tsadmin.exe on 4 of them while trying to connect to the last one (it's one of the two upgraded) it gives a strange error "Authentication error, impossible to connect" (the message colud be a little different, I traslated it from italian). I get same error tring to connect from windowsXP client running "\ \ts_not_working\c$\windows\system32\tsadmin.exe" with the right adminstrator credentials. I'm logged as administrator (of course) and, as I wrote, it works correctly on the other TS. Tsadmin fr…

I had previously posted this in the wrong (Windows Server 2008 TS) newsgroup..... I was able to report this to MS, but does anyone have a fix / workaround Hello, I am experiencing a strange problem with one of Win2k3 machines after installing kb951748(i believe that is the last one I installed) Now what happens is if i reboot the system, it appears the rdp listner does not start and i have to reboot a second time to get everything working again. Which is ok as long as i remember, but it makes remote administration a hassle, because i have to physicaly be there to log on locally and do the second reboot. Does anyone know how to resolve this or how …

Terminal Services
by Guest Jarryd- 3 replies

Hi, Right, I have installed TS Server (+ licencing) on a Windows Server 2003 SE box. It all works brilliantly apart from the fact that it always has to do a mini install when you open up the first Office 2003 application of the session. This is not my major concern, but if someone has an answer... Here's is the thing:I kind of figured that you would be able to lock down what was available to specific users in terms of "server" local disk drive access and installed applications. Ideally I would like the user to log in and be able to see and access a My Docs folder that is theirs alone + mapped drives, and only be able to use applications that are ass…
