Remote Destop (for administration)
by Guest apaquette- 5 replies

I am supporting a company with 6 Windows 2003 servers in the domain. I can remote into 5 of OK. The 6th server is the issue. "Remote Desktop" is enabled on the System Properties/Remote screen. On Network Connections/Properties/Advanced/Firewall Settings/Advanced, under both Services and Exceptions Remote Desktop in enabled for TCP 3389. Portqry shows TCP 3389 (ms-wbt-service) LISTENING, UDP 3389 (unknown service) NOT LISTENING. However, when I attempt to remote connect, even from it's own client, it cannot connect. Any suggestions on how to make this work? Thanks

Temporary CALs
by Guest CiscoCaratti- 1 reply

We change several client devices (upgrades after hardware failures). My windows server 2003 issued new tokens for the "new" devices but it does not issue tokens for OLD devices that attemps to open a TS remoote session... because now all CALs are allocated, partially by "old" and "new" devices. How can I retire old devices from the licence database? or Let old known devices have a temporary CAL? Thx

by Guest GF- 5 replies

Hi all, I have 5 terminal servers in "workgroup" mode (not joined in a domain), two was upgraded from win2000srv to win2003std. The servers work correctly, but running tsadmin.exe on 4 of them while trying to connect to the last one (it's one of the two upgraded) it gives a strange error "Authentication error, impossible to connect" (the message colud be a little different, I traslated it from italian). I get same error tring to connect from windowsXP client running "\ \ts_not_working\c$\windows\system32\tsadmin.exe" with the right adminstrator credentials. I'm logged as administrator (of course) and, as I wrote, it works correctly on the other TS. Tsadmin fr…

Hello, I am in the process of setting up a new Terminal Services server. Currently we use 2003 Server with TS installed on a backup server. I have the new server in and was wondering if it would be better to just install Windows 2008 and use the new Terminal services? Currently, 2003 TS has been working well but are limited to printing to a local usb printer. We have one user that was successful in printing to his USB 1022 HP printer. This printer is no longer manufactured so it seems I am running to a dead end on getting local printers to work. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

by Guest Julio- 4 replies

In 2008 server, does anyone now how to remove the "Uninstall or change a program" button thru group policy, when you go into my computer. If you double click on "My Computer", you will see the button in between the "Views" and "Map network drive" buttons. I would like to remove this via group policy so that my users don't see it. I am able to remove it locally via the "Local Group Policy" but it also prevents the administrator from accessing it. Thanks, J

I am running an MS Access ODBC app on Terminal Server under MS Windows 2003 R2. It connects to a SQL Server 2005 DB. The app runs fine from the console using the Access runtime engine, but fails when running from any user logging in to the Terminal Server. The failure occurs when attempting to access the SQL DB. Any ideas? TIA

TS 2008 Printing Question
by Guest Julio- 3 replies
We are looking at upgrading our TS environment from 2003 x32-bit to 2008 x64-bit. The question I have is; how should I install the printers that our TS users need to use? In our current 2K3 environment, our users can simply search AD for the printer they want to print to. I understand our current scenario is possible since the print server is also 2K3. None of our users use locally attached printers therefore printer redirection is out of the question. Do I need to setup each printer locally on the 2008 x64-bit server or is there a method of installing the 2008 drivers on our current print server and have our users continue adding their printers thru AD?…

RemoteAPP issue with application
by Guest Saucer Man- 4 replies
We have Windows 2008 Server with Terminal Server RemoteAPP services installed. The application I want to publish requires a mapped drive. If I use a Remote Desktop session, I can launch the app fine. The "desktop" environment gets the mapped drive either from Group Policy based on the user logon or because the drive is mapped locally on the server. If I use RemoteAPP, I am getting errors and the app is not working. It appears (but I am not 100% sure) that the mapping might not be working. Since there is no desktop environment, I can't verify mapping or even run CMD to see what environment variables are set. I have a VB Script that runs at logon w…

RDP in Vista
by Guest JohnB- 3 replies

Is there a way to get RDP to work the same in Vista as it did in XP? After putting in the server name or IP address I then get a box with the last user's name and password prompt and, a line below that titled "Use another Account" (the window is titled "Windows Security"). Then... when I put in the username/password I see the usual "Log on to Windows" screen. In the username box is the IP address followed by a slash and the username. And, it fails the logon every time. I have to wait until it fails, and then remove the IP address from in front of the username and try it again. And then it works. As usual, the Vista OS makes a joke of everything that …

I had previously posted this in the wrong (Windows Server 2008 TS) newsgroup..... I was able to report this to MS, but does anyone have a fix / workaround Hello, I am experiencing a strange problem with one of Win2k3 machines after installing kb951748(i believe that is the last one I installed) Now what happens is if i reboot the system, it appears the rdp listner does not start and i have to reboot a second time to get everything working again. Which is ok as long as i remember, but it makes remote administration a hassle, because i have to physicaly be there to log on locally and do the second reboot. Does anyone know how to resolve this or how …

Hi We have been running a Win 2000 Server as a file server through an ADSL Gateway. We have set up single port forwarding on the Gateway, and it runs as a PC Anywhere host absolutely OK. The Server is part of a workgroup (we have no need of a domain in a small office). We have now set up a Win 2003 Server which will ultimately replace the Win 2000 Server. The Server is loaded with CA internet Security Suite. However, no matter what we do, we cannot get either Remote Desktop or PC Anywhere to run on it. We have disabled the CA Internet Security Suite firewall and have set up port forwarding to the remote Win XP Pro PC, but without success. Is th…
