Terminal Services sometimes hangs
by Guest jfoster-pusd- 2 replies

Sometimes the terminal service session hangs at the point the desktop has been loaded. The screen looks normal until the mouse pointer is moved to the task bar or start button and then it becomes an hour-glass. I have seen this more commonly as administrator session on servers that are not true terminal servers. At that point I cannot login to the console either - same symptom. I must login as a different admin user and reset the session to recover from this. The only clue I have is that the hung up user has userint.exe open when this occurs (observed from a different admin session). The servers are all Server 2003 Standard Edition - SP2 on Dell Power…

Remote Desktop Rejected, but not console login
by Guest David L.- 1 reply
Hi This is odd, a w2k3 server, in a SBS2003 domain, was allowing remote desktop connections until last Friday using domain accounts. This AM, a remote desktop login is rejected, as: 1219, Unable to obtain Terminal Server User Configuration. Error: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. However, the same domain account can log in from the console. Any ideas?

Remote Desktop - Is it a Reboot fix?
by Guest AA- 0 replies
We’ve RDP issues with Win2K3 Boxes. Some times it works and some times it’s simply not. When I try to connect RDP after few seconds it just comes right back with no warnings no errors I have spent some good time but not able to find some route cause, which can help in finding the issues. I checked and remote access is enabled and my user is allowed. No firewall No issues found in event log entries Terminal Server Manager.5.2 I don't have any error messages; all it happens is RDP freezes. And I know this will work when we are ending up in rebooting the servers, which is just impossible. Please help me! Regards. Azeem

I have a client that wants to give a non-admin the ability to remote control other users terminal sessions via the TS Manager. Any articles on how to setup a "Domain User" with such permission? -- - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)

Many of our offsite users have saved Remote Desktop Connection (.rdp) files saved with the password. Is there any way to have TS 2003 reject that kind of login, and ask for it to be manually typed in?

the problem i am having is reconnecting to the TS immediately after disconnection, or/and trying to connect two times from a remote location. a little more detail on the setup. this is a multi site setup. servers and users at the main site and users at remote sites. 3 remote sites 1 with a vpn tunnel 2 with no vpn tunnel. all users have thin client machines (no pc's). all users can connect and use the app on the TS, works great, but - when a user at a remote site logs out and then immediately tries to reconnect they cannot and receive a network time out error. after about 5 min. they are able to reconnect. one remote site with vpn tunnel has 2 thin clie…

Are there any ISPs who would take a virtual machine we supply to them and run it on their premises, occasionally stopping the virtual machine to do a full image backup? We would access the computer by terminal services. I'm looking for this at a rate of under $30/month. I'm aware of vendors who would do this for $300/month, which seems laughable considering they could run 20 virtual machines on a $5K server. We figured our cost to do it internally on our own servers around $60/month per virtual machine, so I'm hoping someone out there has cheaper electricity and economy of scale. -- Will

Black Screen after TSADMIN remote session with client.
by Guest ChrisRob- 2 replies

*Server is 2003 Enterprise - client is on xp pro* First of all i posted this a while back, and must have forgot about it. Sorry Munindra for not getting back to you. Basically what happens, is i'll log into a session to help the user. When i'm done I'll ctrl+* to get out, and there screen will go black/blank. If they hit the X to disconnect they get the same screen when they log back in (unless the session times out first). It's not just when i remote their sessions it also happens when Senior PMs help their junior PMs. It doesn't happen all the time either. One user i'm working with says it happens 75% of the time. Thanks for any help anyone can offer…

Using SSL
by Guest TR- 2 replies
I have configured a W2K3 R2 server as a terminal server. I have enabled SSL over RDP on the connection. I have set all the parameters correctly in the Terminal Services Configuration manager per article KB895433 and remote users can successfully connect using SSL, however those who are not changing their security level on their RDP client are still successfully connecting and the Terminal server is not denying them. I cannot seem to force the Terminal server to deny those who do not have high encryption selected on their RDP client. Thanks TR

The environment is XP embedded (Thin Client) On a 'normal' XP PC I have been saving user's name/password in their RDP file so their logon is automatic. Now the RDP Client dialogue box does not even allow for the entry of the user/pwd and users MUST enter their logon details every time. -- Regards Tom

One minute log off time
by Guest Neal- 9 replies
We have a new Citrix farm built on W2003 SP2. When users log off, it takes about two seconds to copy their profile, and a second or two to save settings. Then they have one minute to sit there and wait till the session finishese. We've tried new profiles, Admistrators and users (to see if it is permissions related) etc. Tried everything. Have insatlled all the patches we can find that are related (and some that aren't) Hive cleanup etc. Only clue I can give, is that if I log on via TS to the console, it takes about three seconds to log off. Same user in a normal session, one minute to log off. Any ideas? thanks, Neal

by Guest Chris Ferraro- 3 replies

I am an IT consultant with servers in different envirnments running SBS2003 SP1 and Windows 2003 server SP2 and R2. I have an intermittent problem when after server reboots. I am unable to connect to the terminal server. I am running in remote administrator mode and when I attempt to connect I quickly get an error saying "The client could not establish a connection to the remote computer." If I telnet to port 3389 I am disconnected as soon as I type anything. The problem occurs when connecting locally or remotely via terminal services client. A reboot of the server resolves the issue I verified that the terminal service process was listening on po…

Hi, One of our TS users is having problem with her Acrobat with Outlook. I checked some preference and it said the problem can be fixed by disabling the acrobat add-in within outlook and it has to be done using registry editor. My question is how can I edit registry setting for individual users. I do not want to do that for all the users within the AD as the rest of them doesn't have this problem. Thanks

Hello, is it possible to join a console session? I tried it on a W2003Server and get the message, the "Remote control is disabled on that Session". Is it possible to enable it? Does it have something to do with the policy settings? Haven't found any relevant. Or with TS CLAs? Thanks, Christian
