Terminal Server doesn't logoff when app closed
by Guest Kevin Harms- 1 reply
Hello, We currently are using Windows 2003 to run some production applications. Our terminals sessions do not load the desktop but rather only open the application to ensure security on our server. In the past when this application was closed it would log out of the terminal session so we are able to log back in. Something changed in the past bit where the terminal session does not log off when the application is closed, so it leave the session open with a blue screen. You can hit ctrl-alt-del and select logoff. Is there a group policy or something I need to change to reenable this feature? Thanks for help.

Selectively Redirect Printers
by Guest Vincent- 7 replies
I have done some searching on this topic, but have come up empty. Is there a way to selectively redirect a client's printers? So, the client has printers A, B and C, but I only want to redirect printers B and C. And, yes, I do know about the FilterQueueType registry setting, but the problem is that both printers A and C are USB. The actual reason for me wanting to do this, is that printer A causes the session to hang when I try to logoff. So my reasoning is that if this printer is not redirected, the session will no longer hang when I logoff. If anyone has ideas concerning either of these, it would be most appreciated. Thank you. Vincent

Printing
by Guest Ken- 1 reply

I installed Window 2008 to use Remote Application for many of remote sites around AP region, it works quite well by the way. I hit a wall when I thought about printing performance over the WAN because the finance dept in my company do a lot of printing at the end of the month. I have tried searching for an answer to find how much bandwidth TS printing actually takes up but so far no luck. Would anybody know or able to give me a lead where I can find out more information about TS printing or the optimal way to configure TS printing. Thanks. Ken

Terminal Server 2003, Defalut Printer
by Guest Marc- 4 replies

What does it take to bring in (redirect) ONLY the clients default printer? I have a group policy set at teh user OU level specifing to redirect user default printer. The check mark is checked in the user profile in AD to Connect client printers at logon and Default to main client printer. Terminal Server Configuration is set to Use connection settings from user settings. Is there something I'm missing? At this point every user that logs in has all their windows printers redirected, they are Domain Users.

Hi, but of a server virgin here so be kind! I've installed win2k8 and setup application sharing ok. But, I can't find where to restrict desktop logins. I'm hoping to use the TS app stuff to allow people to trial my software - not to login to my server! Any help much appreciated, Cheers, Andy

TS NLB Port Rules
by Guest rmth- 2 replies
The recommendation for NLB port rules for TS is to delete the default and set the port range from 3389 to 3389 and specify TCP as the protocol. It states that this will only load balance connections made by RDP. Does the NLB port setting rules effect other port and protocol connections, such as external automated backup solutions? -- rmth

Many printers appear when connected via TS
by Guest Thomas Kroljic- 2 replies
All, When my users connect to the Terminal Server, if they go into Printer and Faxes, they will see a large number of printer listed. Their printer is the default printer. And so far I really don't have any problems with redirecting print jobs back to the client PC. What I'd like to do if possible is eliminate the showing of so many printers when connected to the TS. Is this possible? Are will my users see everyone's printer if they are connected? Thank you, Thomas Kroljic

TS redirect to HP PSC 1500 series
by Guest Thomas Kroljic- 6 replies
All, Does anyone know if this specific printer (HP PSC 1500) has the ability to be used with a TS session on the remote client? Reason I'm asking is that this is a multi-function printer. When I attempted to download a print driver for this printer from the HP website to install on the TS server, it began to install an entire application (suite). I cancelled the download. I also found a HP document listed in another thread in this forum that listed all the HP printers that are compatable with TS and Citrix. This printer was listed as NOT. As such, I just want to make sure this is true before I explain to my boss that his home printer will not work. …

compacting access DB on terminal server
by Guest Jim Burke in Novi- 2 replies
My database is split up between the appl and the tables. The production application runs on a terminal server. When I compacted the DB with the tables, our users end up getting an error saying that someone has the database exclusively. When I am logged on as an adminstrator I can use it fine, there's no problem. Here's what I do: 1) compact the original production DB into a new one (in case of problems with the compact) 2) rename the original, then rename the new one to the production name. When I look at the security options in properties after I do the compact and the renames, everything looks fine. But somehow it seems that the compact does somethi…

Add to Remote Desktop History count
by Guest Venger- 2 replies
Hello - Just a question someone may have the answer to. Is it possible to increase the connection history stored by the RDP client? I find with my usage that 10 is far too few, and I was hoping there was a DWORD entry that could be added to the registry to increase the MRU count. Of course, this is pretty esoteric, so not alot of info around on it, I've looked. Any insider info? Typing mail.clientslongassdomain.com takes just a few seconds, but if I can save that every time, maybe over my lifetime I will have saved enough of my time to cure childhood cancer or something. So please, think of the children... Venger

The Most Secure Way
by Guest create_share- 3 replies

Hi! How can we secure our Terminal Server and give access to internet users so that they can use our ERP Application? We already have a firewall but since TS is published on the internet behind this firewall, everybody can access our TS just by entering the Public IP and can see our domain name in Remote Desktop Dialog Box and can also login by guessing the username and password. Thanks!

Screen reolution with thin client
by Guest John- 1 reply
Hi, I have a Neoware thin client connecting to a W2k3 terminal server. On the thin client, the RDP client only has a setting for colour, not resolution. It says the resolution is obtained from the server. The thin client itself is set to 1024x768 as is the terminal server desktop. When I make a connection with the thin client, it only shows the 800x600 desktop and occupies only part of the screen. Is there a setting somewhere that I can force the connection to use the full screen i.e 1024x768? Thanks, John

Move TS from workgroup to domain?
by Guest Donna D- 3 replies
Hi, We have a Win2k3 TS in workgroup mode that connects us to our Netware server. We're (finally!) getting rid of our Netware server & replacing it with a Win2k3 server. The new server will be a domain. What's the best practice for changing the TS server from wg mode to domain mode? Just join the domain? Make it some sort of a controller? These will be our only 2 servers. Thx, DD

Release of old licenses in TS
by Guest Enfield- 3 replies
It looks like that there are several devices which show as expired with the old date and a new license has been re-issued to the same device, but the old one has not been refreshed or released for others to use. I checked couple of settings on License Manager to release it but was unsuccessful as there is no option to either right click on that device and say release or disconnect. Any ideas guys! Thanks in advance!

Install but not use TS License Server?
by Guest Hank Arnold (MVP)- 4 replies
I'm in the process of planning for a new Citrix PS 4.5 farm. New hardware and OS. Current farm is W2K TS. License server is one of the W2K DCs (domain is all W2K until next year). I want to set up the new license server on a W2003 R2 server I have running. However, I only have 50 TSCALs. Ultimately, there will be up to 100-125 workstations logging into the new farm. Can I set up the new license server without impacting the current setup? I can't have the workstations checking into the new server until I get the additional TSCALs.... -- Regards, Hank Arnold Microsoft MVP Windows Server - Directory Services

Roaming Profiles not unloading
by Guest Steve Snyder- 3 replies

W2K3 R2, IE6SP2 - article 840378 describes the issue perfectly, except for the file dates & versions are newer than those listed for the hotfix. Basically, using roaming mandatory profiles with GPO to set the proxy settings and homepage URL - user logs off and three folders remian behind contaiing an index.dat file. Every time the user logs on a new profile folder is created - username.domainname.XXX. thanks.
