The Most Secure Way
by Guest create_share- 3 replies

Hi! How can we secure our Terminal Server and give access to internet users so that they can use our ERP Application? We already have a firewall but since TS is published on the internet behind this firewall, everybody can access our TS just by entering the Public IP and can see our domain name in Remote Desktop Dialog Box and can also login by guessing the username and password. Thanks!

Screen reolution with thin client
by Guest John- 1 reply
Hi, I have a Neoware thin client connecting to a W2k3 terminal server. On the thin client, the RDP client only has a setting for colour, not resolution. It says the resolution is obtained from the server. The thin client itself is set to 1024x768 as is the terminal server desktop. When I make a connection with the thin client, it only shows the 800x600 desktop and occupies only part of the screen. Is there a setting somewhere that I can force the connection to use the full screen i.e 1024x768? Thanks, John

How well does Windows 2008 Terminal Services handle usb devices
by Guest ableone- 4 replies
I gather that Windows 2008 Terminal Services has improved support for usb devices. But it's hard to discover specifically how far that support goes. How do I determine if usb footpedals are going to work? Transcriptionists use usb footpedals to control the playback of dictations.

File Type Associations W2K3
by Guest Garrett1226- 9 replies
I am having a terrible time trying to resolve an issue that is braking many of the applications I am serving up to users inside their Remote Desktop session on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server.... File Type associations for certain extensions show up as "unknown" under certain user profiles, even though the server has valid associations already for apps. Seems like, if a user logs into TS from a machine that has never seem an infopath form before and does not know where to associate an XML file to, the profile will not capture the default association from the server and leaves it as an unknown. This is happening for another file type as well, .TIFF. The …

Selectively Redirect Printers
by Guest Vincent- 7 replies
I have done some searching on this topic, but have come up empty. Is there a way to selectively redirect a client's printers? So, the client has printers A, B and C, but I only want to redirect printers B and C. And, yes, I do know about the FilterQueueType registry setting, but the problem is that both printers A and C are USB. The actual reason for me wanting to do this, is that printer A causes the session to hang when I try to logoff. So my reasoning is that if this printer is not redirected, the session will no longer hang when I logoff. If anyone has ideas concerning either of these, it would be most appreciated. Thank you. Vincent

by Guest Marc- 4 replies

What does it take to bring in (redirect) ONLY the clients default printer? I have a group policy set at teh user OU level specifing to redirect user default printer. The check mark is checked in the user profile in AD to Connect client printers at logon and Default to main client printer. Terminal Server Configuration is set to Use connection settings from user settings. Is there something I'm missing? At this point every user that logs in has all their windows printers redirected, they are Domain Users.

Terminal Server doesn't logoff when app closed
by Guest Kevin Harms- 1 reply
Hello, We currently are using Windows 2003 to run some production applications. Our terminals sessions do not load the desktop but rather only open the application to ensure security on our server. In the past when this application was closed it would log out of the terminal session so we are able to log back in. Something changed in the past bit where the terminal session does not log off when the application is closed, so it leave the session open with a blue screen. You can hit ctrl-alt-del and select logoff. Is there a group policy or something I need to change to reenable this feature? Thanks for help.

compacting access DB on terminal server
by Guest Jim Burke in Novi- 2 replies
My database is split up between the appl and the tables. The production application runs on a terminal server. When I compacted the DB with the tables, our users end up getting an error saying that someone has the database exclusively. When I am logged on as an adminstrator I can use it fine, there's no problem. Here's what I do: 1) compact the original production DB into a new one (in case of problems with the compact) 2) rename the original, then rename the new one to the production name. When I look at the security options in properties after I do the compact and the renames, everything looks fine. But somehow it seems that the compact does somethi…

Remove Licence Pack
by Guest Francois Colpron- 5 replies
Hi. We have a Windows 2003 Terminal Server running with two licence packs: a Windows 2000 built-in per device pack and a Windows 2003 retail per user pack. Our TS Clients connect from Mac OS X running the Microsoft RDP Client. All licences are taken from the Windows 2000 built-in per device pack. We found out that the Windows 2000 built-in is not supposed to be installed and we rather use the Windows 2003 retail licences. However, we didn't find a way to remove this licences. Is there a way to remove a group of Terminal Server licences? Thanks

Printing
by Guest Ken- 1 reply

I installed Window 2008 to use Remote Application for many of remote sites around AP region, it works quite well by the way. I hit a wall when I thought about printing performance over the WAN because the finance dept in my company do a lot of printing at the end of the month. I have tried searching for an answer to find how much bandwidth TS printing actually takes up but so far no luck. Would anybody know or able to give me a lead where I can find out more information about TS printing or the optimal way to configure TS printing. Thanks. Ken

TS redirect to HP PSC 1500 series
by Guest Thomas Kroljic- 6 replies
All, Does anyone know if this specific printer (HP PSC 1500) has the ability to be used with a TS session on the remote client? Reason I'm asking is that this is a multi-function printer. When I attempted to download a print driver for this printer from the HP website to install on the TS server, it began to install an entire application (suite). I cancelled the download. I also found a HP document listed in another thread in this forum that listed all the HP printers that are compatable with TS and Citrix. This printer was listed as NOT. As such, I just want to make sure this is true before I explain to my boss that his home printer will not work. …

Port redirection before logon
by Guest Tony Vabony- 1 reply

I'm developing custom GINA dll replacement, which communicates with proprietary authentication device connected to serial port. Everything's straight with local logons, but support of Terminal Services is required as well. Hence the question: Is port redirection possible only after user is logged on? Or it occurs right after initial connection to TS? TIA

Many printers appear when connected via TS
by Guest Thomas Kroljic- 2 replies
All, When my users connect to the Terminal Server, if they go into Printer and Faxes, they will see a large number of printer listed. Their printer is the default printer. And so far I really don't have any problems with redirecting print jobs back to the client PC. What I'd like to do if possible is eliminate the showing of so many printers when connected to the TS. Is this possible? Are will my users see everyone's printer if they are connected? Thank you, Thomas Kroljic
