Is there a cal that will enable this connection? Maybe client-side? It worked for a while, I'm guessing with a temp license on the ts, but now it gives error about no licenses available even when no one is connected. The server has 5 ts licenses. Also having the same problem from a Vista Home system. Thanks -- Louis Goodbrod Smyth County Schools

Every now and then we have a problem on our Win2k3 SP2 server, and from that moment on any new TS/RDP connection does not work... After the login screen the desktop does not load, we just have the background color of the screen and a mouse, but no icons, no taskbar, no launches of startup programs. W end up rebooting from a local account.

running programs on network drives
by Guest Rich Wethington- 11 replies

I recently replaced the server we use for terminal services. I have installed all of the programs that were on the old server on the new one. My problem is that any program that is actually on a network drive will not work. I get the following error. Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. The programs work fine when run from the console, but not over terminal services. This server also has ISA 2000 running on it. The old one did also. Thanks, Rich Wethington

Will 2008 Terminal Server CALs install and function correctly on a server running 2003. I don't see the 2003 CALs available any longer from reputable vendors.

Move "Documents and Settings"
by Guest D.S.- 11 replies

Hi, we are running into space issues on the C: drive on one of our TS. With the "Documents and Settings" consuming the major part of the drive i thought it might be a quick way to resolve this issue to move that folder (including contents) to another local drive. Has anyone followed through the "Entire Folder" solution provided by <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;LN;236621>? To make the process quicker Microsofts CopyProfile tool would probably be used. Any input on how reliable this process is or if it works at all would be great. Thanks Daniel

Printing - Supported Devices
by Guest JohnB- 11 replies

About a week ago someone posted a link from HP's website that listed supported printers for TS. (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00213455) But the document states it's for Citrix Presentation Server. I'm trying to find something comparable for Microsoft's TS. Does anyone know of such a document?

Office Licencing on TS Server
by Guest Luke Chalmers- 11 replies

Hello, I have read the following article and found the licencing agreement a bit surprising and was wondering if someone would clear something up for me. http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/9da3742f-699d-4476-b050-c50aa14aaf081033.mspx?mfr=true This a word document from MSFT site explaining how to correctly license Office on a Terminal Services Server. As I read it, you must have a full copy of Office on the remote desktop machine (machine you are using to access TS) in order to use Office on the Terminal Server?!?! If you use say a machine in an internet cafe, you won't be able to use Outlook, Word etc unless Office is actu…

Windows Mobile 6 TS Idle Timeout Issue
by Guest SPB- 11 replies

I am running several sites that use PDAs for a Point of Sale Application. That said I am using a WM6 RDP client to connect to a Windows 2003 Server TS Server. Although I have: 1. Set Idle Session Limits to the Maximum (Never) through the Group Policy Editor 2. Disabled Screen Savers through the Group Policy Editor 3. Enabled KeepAliveEnable in the Registry 4. Set the KeepAliveInterval to 1000 in the Registry 5. Set the KeepAliveTime to 7200000 in the Registry The clients still disconnect after 10 minutes (or sooner) of idletime. If the user is using the handheld "terminal" consistently everything is fine, however if left idle the RDP client discon…

TS in DMZ will not allow clients to connect - licensing issue
by Guest Andrew Story- 11 replies

Hello NG, - Win2k TS with a mix and XP pro and 2k pro clients. 90 days ago (i know) we installed a TS server in a DMZ to allow access via TS Web Access to an application on the trusted network. All works fine until now, external clients cannot connect and get a message box with this text: The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator. Internal clients are fine, also there are many event ID: 1004 regarding the devices unable to connect. Is there a way to test whether your TS server can actually see a license server? …

I have a client that wants to give a non-admin the ability to remote control other users terminal sessions via the TS Manager. Any articles on how to setup a "Domain User" with such permission? -- - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)

I have been trying to figure this one out for months. I have read an article or two indicating that updating your terminal service to SP2 resets all permissions and file security settings to the default settings. Nonetheless I have given domain users, everyone, remote desktop users all local admin rights on the terminal server as well as full control of the c: drive. I am only able to create shortcuts in users' 'My Document' folder, which users also have full control over, although their 'My Documents' folder location points to their home directory on a different server. Anyway, I have my terminal server users full control on the terminal server but they a…

Hello All, * I have a SBS2003 that is my main machine now (new computer), and I am now using it for my Domain Controller (AD). * I have another 2003 Server Standard (old computer) that WAS the domain controller, but i attached it to the SBS2003 Domain--this way I can manage the user accounts in one place, instead of creating them on the old and the new computer. On the older computer (2003Standard) I have my terminal server licensing server (unlimited). I was hoping that now that computer is hooked up to the SBS2003 domain, that all the users would be able to login to the terminal server (the old computer) without problem. It is giving me the mes…

I had a user that was connecting to TS 2008 using user mode licensing and now that user is no longer with the company. How do I free up his license for use by a new user? Also, how can I tell what users are taking licenses? The only report I can find shows how many licenses are in use and not who is using them. Thanks in advance, -Nathan

UPHClean and x64
by Guest F. David del Campo Hill- 10 replies

Dear All, I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Terminal Services server which is experiencing continuous "locked profile" problems (users kept being logged in with temporary profiles because their user profiles could not be updated; you could not delete the profiles in C:\Documents and Settings\ because NTUSER was being used by another process; and all these problems would go away after a reboot until the profiles got locked again), so I installed UPHClean 1.6d from . The installation *apparently* went well, but when I try to start the User Profile Hive Cleanup service, I get the message: "The User Profile Hive Cleanup service on Local Computer start…

Terminal Services Manager not connecting to a 2003 Server
by Guest davidtheweb- 10 replies
I have one 2003 Standard server that will not accept a connection from Terminal Services Manager. The message on TSM is 'You could not be authenticated on this server.' All other 2003 and 2000 servers are accepting connections from TSMs on different stations. This 2003 server was upgraded from 2000 a little while back. When it was a 2000 server, it accepted TSM connections. I *am* able to Remote Desktop successfully to this server, just not to TSM to it in order to manage connections, etc. Any thoughts? Thanks, David

Good moring! I hope that all of you in the US had a great 4th of July (we did...but the little ones do not quite appreciate the Fireworks after bedtime!). QUESTION: on a WIN2003 R2 SP2 Terminal Server we have, among other things, MS Office 2007 installed. Additionally, we installed MS Office Project 2007 (default location). I need to limit the users who are able to make use of MS Office Project 2007. Is this possible? Please read the short novel below to understand why I am asking this question.... SHORT NOVEL!!!!!! I noticed on the Terminal Server that C:\Program Files has an "extra" Security Group in the NTFS Permissions tab - "TERMINAL SER…

I installed Terminal Server and created a user "Apptest" w/(Account Operator, Domain User & Desktop Remote User) membership, but evertime I try to log in from my labtop I get the message saying I don't have the rights to log in, but, I can log in as the Admin. another thing happen after I completing the Configure Your Server is, the User & Group Object is no longer in the Computer Management Console, but it's available in the Active Directory User & Computer Manager. So, my question is, what is wrong with my user not being able to connect, do I need to recreate the user in the Active Director Manager? -- Eric Miller

Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 Default securitypreventing connection from internet
by Guest Andrew Davis- 10 replies

Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 Default securitypreventing connection from internet I have a Server 2008 Enterprise x86 system sitting at home, which I use to run various game servers and whatnot. For whatever reason, since I upgraded (I formatted and re-installed to not leave junk behind during the upgrade), I have not been able to access Terminal Services from the Internet. I haven't changed the firewall at all, and the server can still be accessed for other services but for Terminal Services, it gives a connection refused. I've even tried connecting to the router's external IP from inside, and it still gives a connection refused. I only h…

Thin client support for TS Gateway
by Guest lamaslany- 10 replies

We have been using Terminal Services for our desktop provision to staff for many years now and as a result we have many dozens of HP thin clients out in the field (and by field I mean teleworking locations and in the homes of our staff). 80% of our users are able to work remotely in this fashion and the remaining 20% work on the terminal servers using thin clients on site. We are looking to move to Windows Server 2008 and one of the main features we are looking to implement is the TS Gateway. Unfortunately while users with access to PCs and laptops (~20%) should have no problems I am growing concerned for the thin client users. Is there a list of sup…
