by Guest Derek Disconnect- 6 replies

An Epson TM-T88IIIP printer is connected to my local (client) computer running windows XP. I can print to it using port ESDPRT001 with description LPT1. When I remote using windows remote desktop to my server which is a Dell Poweredge 830 running windows server 2003 R2 64, I cannot print. I have read that any port that does not begin with COM, LPT, or USB are not redirected using remote desktop. Do you have any suggestions for me to be able to print? I do have another printer that uses port DOT4_001 and is a multifunction printer. I can print to this printer when I use remote desktop. Derek

OU GPO - Problem setting TS Profile Path for users under a specifi
by Guest dudeDad- 8 replies

Here is what I am trying to accomplish: I have 3 different OUs : OU1, OU2, OU3 each with its own set of users. I want all users in OU1 to use the same Mandatory Profile. I want all users in OU2 to use a mandatory profile that is configured just for OU2, ...etc... I try to accomplish this by using a GPO at the OU level to set the TS Roaming profile. Unfortunately, it is not working. When i log in for the first time with one of the child users, it just creates a local account off the default user. Here is the setup: Each of these OUs has several user account defined under them: OU1 --> User11, User12, User13 OU2 --> User21, User22, User…

by Guest Johannes- 16 replies

When I try to remote control a session (neither are console session), I get error: Session (ID 2) remote control failed (Error 7054 - The system has reached its licensed logon limit. Please try again later. ) The old installation didn't have this problem but the hard drive crashed so we have to reinstall. Q1. Why do I get this error and how do I fix it? Q2. a. Is this because we don't have license? b. Our network admin told me that he already put the CAL license on the license manager (on our Domain controller), how do I check if we actually have CAL for Windows 2003 Terminal Server? Btw, here are a few settings: 1. From Terminal Services…

User Profile hangs
by Guest td- 7 replies

I have a user that when he logs onto our TS 2003 box it hangs at loading your personal settings. He did not have any issues in the past. This has just started happening. I was going to rename his current profile and let him log on and then I would just copy over what he needed from his old profile to the new one but.....when I try to rename the old profile it says Access is denied. Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not in use. I am assuming that there is a file within this profile that is locked or hung by the system. Is there anyway to unlock it without restarting the server? IS there anyway to see what file is locked in t…

Terminal Server 2003. I have routing and remote access configured. I see the users connect to the server. But when I try to make a remote access connection back to their machine the entire connection including the client (remote) machine gets hung. I disconnect the session from the routing and remote access console, but the remote machine gets hung. The remote machine is running Vista SP1. The problem is only on this 1 remote access server (TermServer). My old TS running windows 2003 sp2 can make the connection fine. Any idea? I am trying to look through group policy to see if something is blocking this connection from working properly Thanks, SJM…

I am running Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.5 on a Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server SP2 with Terminal Services. The server is an HP Proliant DL320 G5 with 3 GB of RAM and a Dual Core Xeon 2.66 GHz processor. We do not publish applications on our Citrix server just a desktop. All users use the Citrix Program Neighborhood client, version 10.100.55836. We are experiencing a problem with this server that has been going on for nearly a year now and we could really use some help. The problem starts when a user calls the Help Desk and tells us that they can't get into Citrix. We then attempt to connect as well as get the same problem. You pu…

by Guest chas- 11 replies

I'm trying to connect to a windows 2003 sever which is on the local network, via Vista's remote desktop. I get the error message:- "The client could not connect. You are already connected to the console of this computer. A new console session cannot be established." I have no idea what this message means or how to fix it. A terminal session worked fine from XP before I upgraded to vista. A friend of mine with a very similar set-up, has exactly the same error when he tries to connect to his server also. Can any tell what I'm doing wrong? Chas

Shared User Folders and printer setup

I hope the following makes sense. I have a 2003 standard server setup running as a Terminal Server to allow our other location (several miles away) to access our main SBS 2003 server and run our Mfg/accntg software. We have a program called 'Check Factory' that allows the printinf of forms and checks to blank stock. In order to get this software to work Trans-Micro (the makers of Check Factory) have a detailed procedure that allows multiple Terminal Server users to run the software at the same time. Here is the setup procedure that should allow the software to print to the correct client printer (which I have followed): 01: Install the Check Fa…

Terminal Server Performance

We are having poor performance on our terminal server. We only have about 100 users on one server with 2 processors and 8 gigs of ram. The poor performance seems to coincide with high/read writes on our C: drive. Could the drive itself be the bottleneck or the network itself?...Thanks...Grecko

Hi, We have a couple of remote offices, and the users have notebooks and connect to the main office via TS. Our TS server has a mapped drive to a disk that is backed up nightly to tape and users are encouraged to store documents there for backup purposes, and work on those files via a TS connection. However, these are mobile users, who don't always have internet access and have to store those files locally on the notebook, and therefore have no way to then "copy" them to the TS mapped drive. What are my possible workarounds to this if any? Thanks, Mike

RDP fails with "This computer can't connect to the remote computer" with no Terminal Services error indication Has anyone else experienced the following problem with a Remote Desktop Connection to a Windows Server 2003 SE SP2 with all current High Priority and Optional updates applied? Any suggestions? The following is displayed in a critical error pop-up dialog box: Remote Desktop Disconnected This computer can't connect to the remote computer. The connection was lost due to a network error. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support. The error occurs regardless if the conn…

Users must not connect to active session
by Guest Count Blackula- 5 replies

Hi everybody! I have following scenario/problem: W2003 TS running in a school. To avoid too many dead sessions, the session count per user is restricted to 1 session only. Also the "reconnect only from same client" hook is set. In the logon script there is a logoff session that compares username and clientname to a ini-file so that the students can only logon with e.g User01 on Terminal01 User02 on Terminal02 and so on. The problem now is, that some "funny" students discovered, that they can take over a active session from their neighbour by logging on at their trm with the neighbours credentials. Since it is a school there are no passwords set so if user01…

Local Resources - mapped client's drive has incorrect computer nam
by Guest DLecool- 19 replies

We're running a terminal server 2003 with aprox. 10 concurrent users. We are experiencing a problem where clients' mapped drives have an incorrect computer name. For example if user Joe whose computer name is JoesBox maps his local C drive and then goes to My Computer in TS, it should say "C on JoesBox Computer" but it doesn't, it may say something like "C on DavesBox Computer". The computer name seems to be the one of another user that was previously connected to TS. Browsing the drive still shows Joe's files but this incorrect computer name is freaking out our clients. It seems like terminal server is doing some caching on the computer name. Any ideas…

Thin client support for TS Gateway
by Guest lamaslany- 10 replies

We have been using Terminal Services for our desktop provision to staff for many years now and as a result we have many dozens of HP thin clients out in the field (and by field I mean teleworking locations and in the homes of our staff). 80% of our users are able to work remotely in this fashion and the remaining 20% work on the terminal servers using thin clients on site. We are looking to move to Windows Server 2008 and one of the main features we are looking to implement is the TS Gateway. Unfortunately while users with access to PCs and laptops (~20%) should have no problems I am growing concerned for the thin client users. Is there a list of sup…

Hello everyone, I have been directed to configure our Terminal Services solution to use Enterprise Licensing. I've been reading the information in this document (http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/b5464bb2-7b32-457d-a988-52b030281f041033.mspx?mfr=true) but it doesn't appear to go into details about how to publish the Terminal Server in other sites. Is there a document that someone can point me towards? TIA, - SB

Group Policy For Terminal Server
by Guest Rossco1981- 14 replies

HI All This is probably a straight forward problem but I am a bit stuck. We have an OU for terminal servers which has the GPO appplied to it, to restrcited various things (such as run box, control panel access, map drive etc). This works perfectly well when users log onto the server they can only do the tasks we want them to do, however as the policy is applied at machine level when we log on a administrator we also experience the same restrictions. We cannot apply the policy at user level (as users are in many places and use different computers/laptops etc). Is there a way to apply the policy to everyone but Administrators? As we need to use terminal…

I have terminal server that appears to have a screensaver being enabled through the users desktop policy. We have the desktop policy set to lock after 10 minutes. When they are logged into TS, both sessions will lock. The local desktop and the TS desktop. They are not disconnected. I have the TS screen saver disabled through group policy but the screensaver still starts after 10 minutes. Is there a way to prevent the desktop sreen saver policy from being applied to the TS Session? Thanks for the help, Jeff
