Server 2008 Terminal Server login options
by Guest Larry- 1 reply

I have a tsweb application that directs users to a Windows Server 2008 Terminal Server. This web app supplies the login name to the Terminal Server. In Server 2003 there is no problem. But, now with Server 2008 when the Terminal Server Login dialog comes up I get a button for the user the web page has provided, a button for "Other User" and a Cancel button. How do I change this logon to display the Server 2003 type of dialog with user name, password and Ok and Cancel? I don't really want my users to be displayed an option to login as an "Other User".

I want to remotely manage my terminal servers. I tried to install the RSAT tools on my 32bit Vista Enterprise SP1 computer. When I run the install it tells me "the update does not apply to your system". This does not make sense. I have the required OS, and SP1. The update is not installed already (I checked). I am loggedin with admin permissions Firewall is off I tried to use wusa.exe at command line - it does not work. I tried using the expand command and then packager - does not work I get no errors in the event log Windows updates are working GPO CSE is not installed (I saw on the net where someone had luck turning this off) so this is not the i…

Print job still spooling
by Guest crackie- 7 replies

Hi, I have one unit of HP Laserjet P1006 setup and connected to my PC USB port. Printing from my PC to the printer is all alright without any issue. Somehow, whenever I login to our application server via RDP (Win XP Pro - remote desktop) and to attempt any printing, the print job will be pending at the spooler for an indefinite amount of time. Eventually it will just stuck there and does not print at all. I had checked on both the server properties and printer properties in the remote desktop environment, the TS has correctly mapped and assigned the port to the printer. I wonder what is wrong here and what causes the print job is still spooling in T…

TS Session Broker for Server 2008 behind ISA
by Guest Rob- 0 replies
We have a couple of Server 2008 machines running as terminal servers. We've set up a TS Session Broker which works great as long as you are on the internal network. The TS Session Broker is set up to use IP redirection to reconnect to existing sessions...obviously using their internal IP addresses. The problem is that the TS Session Broker will not work with ISA at all since it is using internal IP addresses for redirection. When you set up the server publishing rule you can set it up to use the internal IP of the server running the session broker (we have it running on one of the Terminal Servers). If you have a session on another maching then the…

Random Session Disconnects
by Guest legpeg2008- 4 replies

Hello, Over the last 48hrs we have been getting issues with about 16-26 users being disconnected from our 6 of our 7 terminal servers. They are not all disconnected all at the same time- one user will be disconnected another can then log in. It does not appear to be specific to one server or one particular branch. It appears to only be affecting our remote sites which connect via a managed MPLS vpn network (head office appears to be unaffected). I can see in terminal services manager the 16 or so users with disconnected sessions. This to me sounds like a licensing issue, but we have over 300 according to the licensing server - with only 200 users connec…

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to use the IMsRdpClientTransportSettings2 interface to prepopulate or bypass the client Gateway Login by setting the GatewayDomain, GatewayPassword, and GatewayUsername properties. Does anyone know if this can be done or if this interface is accessible? This doesn't work in the javascript of the page. MsRdpClient.MsRdpClientTransportSettings2.GatewayDomain = "mytsserver.com"

Application compatibility W2k3 vs W2k8
by Guest Lucian Gaspar- 2 replies

I have the same application (SAGE MAS500) running under W2k3 TS and W2k8 TS. Everything is fine under W2k3, but in W2k8 creating a new window loses focus and if it behind my current one, I get "An action cannot be completed because a component is not responding. Choose "Switch to..." to activate the component." After pushing "Switch to..." it brings the window in front and focus is ok. Here is my question: what has changed in the new W2k8 TS regarding application compatibility and is there a way to correct this issue? Thank you

I have an .NET application that I have written that user use via terminal services. It is setup as the application to run in the user's AD profile. When the application terminates it takes about 30 seconds for the user to get logged off. Is there some setting that needs to be tweaked so that it does not take so long to log the user off?

Server 2003, 2008 mixed AD Forest. How can I prevent users from saving to My Documents, Desktop, or the root of their profile while in TS Web Access? I've read tens of articles on the subject and tried everything. The only thing I can find that works somewhat is disabling the C drive. This doesn't prevent them from saving to the "Documents" folder. Thank you in advance

Windows TS2008 - Cannot add statements to USRLOGON.CMD
by Guest pbrill1- 2 replies
I am preparing to upgrade a terminal server to Windows 2008, and am in the process of rebuilding the functions that our terminal services users currently access. One necessary configuration is drive mapping at login. I used to add these statements in USRLOGON.CMD in TS2003. This doesn't appear to be possible in TS2008, since the administrator cannot edit this file. Only a TrustedInstaller can...and I can't find where to become a TrustedInstaller (the role doesn't show up in LOCAL USERS AND GROUPS). Any way that I can modify the USRLOGON.CMD to automatically map an R: and a Z: drive for a new terminal services user, when they log onto the server? …

W2k8 TS Application Help
by Guest Schmeg- 0 replies

I have an MRP application that works about 95% on 2008 TS. The MRP app has a menu system and certain menu selections actually launch other .exe's - I am having trouble where when making a menu selection that launches an exe, the application appears to try and launch but then does nothing. I do not get an errors, warnings, events, etc. The exe that is being launched is in a trusted zone and I've allowed it in the Windows Firewall as well as just turning the firewall off to test. I suspect my problem may be some security feature or setting of W2k8 TS that is preventing the exe from launching. Anyone with ideas on where or what to look for? The same applic…

Cannot RDP to server
by Guest David Lozzi- 2 replies

Hello, I have a Win2k3 Standard SP2 server running ISA 2004 SP3. For the longest time RDP to this server was working, then one day, a while ago, it stopped working. I cannot RDP to the server from internal or external computers. When I try to, RDC errors immediately stating "This computer can't connect to the remote computer." ISA is allowing the traffic through, however there are entries saying " A connection was abortively closed after one of the peers sent a RST segment" and after some research i've found this will occur if the destination server is nonexistent. The policy is set to Allow RDP (Terminal Services) Server from Anywhere to Local Host …

RDP Connections - Freeze or Reconnect
by Guest Sarah Kingswell- 13 replies

I am having a really frustrating issue with RDP connecting to a Windows 2003 SP2 Server. For several years the Terminal Server has been working well but just recently remote users have been complaining that the RDP session frequently lock up or reconnects with a big red x in the top right hand corner of the screen. It is happening so frequently that accessing the terminal server remotely is becoming unusable. I have seen this before and it happens very occassionally. LAN users access the terminal server with RDP without issue. This makes me believe it has something to do with the Router or ADSL Line. I have upgraded the router firmware to the lates…
