we have an application running on ts in a 3-tier mode that requires us to read the printer trays of a printer in order to pass that to a reporting server machine. Are they any utilities that if you pass a printer name can return a list of trays or redirect the output to a file that can be read

Dell Fax Wizard Phonebook empty for users not in Power Users group
by Guest kryptech- 2 replies

We're using a Dell MFP 1815dn over the network from a Dell Server SC1430 running Windows 2003 Server R2 (Service Pack 2). All the users in our small office work off this server via Terminal Services. We have "Dell 1815 Fax" as one of the printers. Sending a print job to that printer opens up Dell Fax Wizard. I'm not sure which version it is -- I assume 4.02.82 as that is the version shown if I open PC Fax Settings (Start --> All Programs --> Dell --> Dell Printers --> Dell Laser MFP 1815 --> Configure PC Fax). In Dell Fax Wizard there are two lists of contacts under the Recipents tab. The list on the left ("Phonebook") seems to be pulled fr…

Freezing when printing to PDF
by Guest azevon- 1 reply

Greetings All, I am running Windows server 2003, with Citrix Metaframe 3.0. My clients are Macs connecting with the citrix client. They run a PC application (a database app) that resides on the Citrix server (MS Windows 2003 server). All is fine, except when a user runs a report and prints that report to a pdf file, when they go to exit that app, their connection freezes and I have to manually disconnect them. If the same user uses the same setup logs onto the server, just views the report OR makes any changes to the databse, then exit the app, their connection releases with no issues. So I have narrowed down the issue to printing to a pdf file. I…

Printers not deleting
by Guest Brandon- 6 replies

Hello - I have a W2K3 terminal server in a load balanced config. When my users end their sessions the printers do not delete. There are no messages in the event log with errors. The issue is when the printers in session xx don't delete and another user logsin and is assigned the same session xx that user gets both sets of printers. It just started happening within the past month. The only changes in the month are windows updates. The only way I have figured to get the printers to disappear is to delete them manually or reboot the server but, this is not a good solution. I have tried to restart the spool svr with no luck. Thanks for any advice.

I can not connect any clients to Terminal Services
by Guest Lawrence M- 3 replies

I have installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition at home. (It is under the 120 day grace period) I have installed Terminal Services and according to the checklist there is no need for a TS License server during the grace period. However in server manager it keeps noting it can't find a licensing server. I have installed the gateway and web access portions, also routing and remote access services, Configured the users to be in the remote desktop group and still I can not connect via terminal services. As an administrator I can connect to the server both locally and remotely. I assume that is because as an admin I am still only using Remote Desktop (…

Problems connecting to share

Hi, I have a problem connecting to a network share from my Windows2003 TS. New users can connect to the share from any Windows XP machine on our network by once we put them on TS they cannot connect - you do not have rights etc... They can however browse the server and see the shares and can open the sysvol folder of this server and can open shares on other servers on our network. Licenses and evrything looks correct. It seems to be a rights issue but they is setup in the same groups as working users and the user can connect from a Windows XP client with no problems? Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks in advance KevinT

Redirected Printer in Win 2008 server vs Win 2003 server
by Guest Daniel- 1 reply
In Win 2003 server, we can freely share a redirected printer with a different name, or change security permissions after RDP client connection. However, in Win 2008 server, this privilege is gone. The share buttons and security permission settings are all greyed out. A work around is to take ownship of the printer and the desired sharing function or security permission setting function come back for that session. After log off and log back on again, the "greyed out" state comes back. The account for logging on is already the local administrator, but that doesn't help. Before taking over ownership, only the "SYSTEM" group has all printer management rights. …

Licensing Server - possible issue?
by Guest Sara- 1 reply

I'm not sure if I have a problem with my licensing server or not. Months ago my licensing server was moved from one DC to another and the old DC has long since been decommissioned, and actually now gone from the network. The new licensing server appears to be handing out licenses - but it's only assigning the Win2000 Builtin CALs to the workstations since these workstations are logging into a Windows 2000 Citrix box. If there are remote clients out there who still have a TS license on their machine given to them by the old licensing server, will there license ever expire considering it is a built-in license? Is that why I don't see many new ones being …

Group Policy for Terminal Server not working

This is the setup: 1. Windows 2003 domain 2. Windows 2000 TS server (for simplicity we'll call him TS-Server) 3. TS-Server is in TSOU 4. Created a Global group TS-Users which consists of users from various OU's 5. Created and linked a Group Policy object in TSOU a. This policy has loopback enabled set to "Replace" b. This policy has User Configuration/Windows Componets/Terminal Services/Start a program on Connection enabled and set to run a specific program c. Under security filter I added the computer account and the TS- Users Global group When a user from TS-Users connects to TS-Server the policy is not applied and the user gets a normal de…

Terminal Services Roaming Profiles
by Guest donotspam- 1 reply

Hello, I am in the process of setting up roaming profiles for our 200 or so ts users. But so I get this right first time I have a few queries:- 1. We use a mixture of windows 2003 Enterprise & 2003 R2 Enterprise will this cause a problem with peoples access on a different server. Across our 8 servers things are a mixture of the above OS's. 2.Is it ok just to user a group policy change to point users to the profile directory (ie with everything in their profile) or would I need to use folder redirection for mydocs and mypics? I'm not to sure which is the best way to go with this? Thanks in advance Matt

Hi, I've got three Terminal Servers running server 2003 R2 SP2. All users were able to print to the three HP printers. These are networked and the drivers are installed on each TS server. However, for two users they are unable to print to a specific printer. I can see this error: Note: the two users are on different TS servers and no-one else is affected. Group policy question
by Guest Brad- 1 reply

We have so far successfully set up a couple of new thin clients using Windows XP Embedded. The only problem right now is with a newer vb .exe file that needs to be run on these clients. We have an older version of the program that runs fine, however this newer version of the program gives the error "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer." The only new function to this program is that it uses MSComm for serial port communication. I recall that there is a setting in the group policy that can restrict this. Could this be the problem and if so, where in the policy would I locate this setting? Thanks for the in…

Printers and Faxes status shows printer Offline
by Guest Dennis_S- 1 reply

We have two terminal servers. One of our printers is an HP Laserjet 1220c printer with a Hawking Parallel 10/100M Print Server. Works fine as an IP printer on the network on both terminal servers. I had to power the printer and Hawking device to relocate to a different station. When I brought the printer back Online, one terminal server shows the printer as Offline, and the other terminal server shows the printer as Online. The printer is working, as I am able to print from the ts that shows the printer as Online. How do I reset the Offline status to Online on the terminal server showing the printer as Offline? There is no checkmark next to Use Prin…

Installing Terminal Services on Windows 2008 - "Installation succeeded with errors"
by Guest Bruce Sanderson- 4 replies

Installing Terminal Services on Windows 2008 - "Installation succeeded with errors" I'm reasonably familiar with Terminal Services on Windows 2003, but not on Windows Server 2008. On Windows Server 2008 (RTM) Enterprise 64 bit, when I add the Terminal Services Role, after the restart, Server Manager tells me that "Installation succeeded with errors". I've copied the saved Server Manager installation summary page below. In the Setup Event Log, there is an Event with Source=ServerManager, Event ID 1614 with essentially the same information, but no additional details. Anyone have any clues about what this really means? Terminal Services: Restart Pen…

Access 2007 runtime
by Guest zkmoon- 1 reply

Just need to verify whether or not the Access 2007 Runtime will run without issues under TS (on SBS 2003 server). We are considering development of a small database application for users to access from home using TS. We have TS cals for all those users but client does not want to purchase Office Pro licenses -- hence the application development. I know for Access 2002 there was a special runtime version. What's the situation with Access 2007 runtime? I have searched the knowledgebase and user forums and haven't seen this issue covered. Thanks in advance for what, hopefully, is a simple question.

Multiple versions of Office on TS
by Guest rick m- 2 replies

We have a TS box that has 5 accounts. Three of us use Office 2007 but the other 2 people I need to add will need Office 2003 (just Word/ Excel). Is it possible to install just W2003 and E2003 on a TS box then lock those users into 03 as default? If so, how? I was going to install what I needed then logon as as them and put shortcuts to their version of excel/word on their desktop.

Programatically Reset All TS Sessions
by Guest Brian Williams- 1 reply

Does anyone have any suggestions (WMI or C# preferrably) on how to programatically iterate through and disconnect all terminal services sessions on a given server? As part of our patching process, we'd like to do a mass reset on all active / disconnected sessions before kicking off a patch, and a reboot just to accomplish this is a bit time consuming across several hundred servers.

Applying Group Policy to domain user on Terminal Server
by Guest Luke Chalmers- 4 replies

Hello, I am fairly new to setting up terminal services so I will try and explain the problem as best I can. I have setup a Windows 2003 Terminal Server and have built a group policy for when users logon. The domain controller is on a Windows 2000 server. I am not sure if this is the best way to do this but in Active Directory I have a subfolder called 'Domain Controllers' and this contains the Windows 2000 server. When I right click on the 'domain controllers' and go to properties>group policy I see 'default domain controllers policy'. This this the group policy that is applied to domain users on the network. Another organisational unit subfolde…

Computers keep leaving and re-joining session directory
by Guest lozza- 7 replies

Guys, Just looking for some understanding here. I have (I believe) setup session directory correctly to be hosted on a cluster and everything seems to be working in terms of sessions reconnecting... SO.. not much of an issue. However something I have noticed in the event logs of the active node of the cluster hosting the session directory is that the TS Servers that have been configured for Session Directory throughout the whole day keep leaving and rejoining the Session Directory within a second or so.. is this normal and could this cause problems in terms of users logging in at that second the server leaves and then comes back in a second later? i…

Hi: I have been doing really good. Got Terminal Server running, got my single application starting on auto login... I was feeling really good. Just the VPN left. Then... Yea!!! Ok, when I log on to the Server, the machine it's self, as Administrator, go to Programs, to Administrative Tools, then click on "Terminal Services Manager", it used to open up a window where I could monitor the connections, see who is log on and terminate users, etc. Now when I click on 'Terminal Services Manager' it just puts a depressed icon (the small bar with a title in it) on the taskbar, and no window open, nor can I right click on it for a menu. It is titled…
