Unable to connect to 2k3 r2 via rdp
by Guest Desk Jockey- 3 replies
I'm attempting to connect to an Windows 2003 R2 server using Remote Desktop. I get the error message "The client is unable to connect. You are already connected to the console of this computer. A new console session cannot be established." I have rebooted both the client machine (XP Pro) and the server. I don't even have a monitor, keyboard or mouse on the server so I know I'm not logged into that machine directly. Any thoughts? Thanks.

by Guest SJMP- 3 replies

Windows 2003 terminal server. I used to have a roaming profile. But have not used it in over a year. eveytime I log into the TS It tries to look for my roaming profile. I confirmed in my AD account that there is nothing in the profile path. I got to local profiles on the TS and do not even see my name, just three account unknown - I logg in as domain admin and cannot 'delete' them from user profiles in My Computer, Properties...... I am building a new terminal server right now. I used my account to log in and test the settings. On this new server it again, tried to load my roaming profile. Where is this setting that is controlling this? Thank…

Assigning New IPSec Policy to terminal server
by Guest SJMP- 9 replies
When I right click and apply a new IPSec policy in group policy the policy is assigned. Then "to make sure that clients respond to the TS requests for security" I right click the Client (Respon Only) and assign it. But this changes the IPSec policy to NO for "Policy Assigned" it seems like I cannot have them both assigned. Can someone please explain this to me. I am following KB 816521 Thanks.

Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration
by Guest ctowndu33- 3 replies
I have a particular TS box that the users are constantly screwing up and getting infected. I want to turn on IE ESC but was wondering, is there a way to grant only a few users rights to add to the trusted sites list? I want all websites to go through a process and be granted access from a couple of trusted power users. I know by default any user can add to the trusted sites list and was hoping this can be overruled. Thanks in advance!

Licensing Issue/Questions
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 2 replies

We have a Windows 2003 Server that is a Terminal Server and the LIcensing Server is also running on this system. We purchased 10 TS CALs - Per Device. We had 10 XP clients connecting via RDP, then we added another client. We forgot about purchasing another CAL, so the temporary license for the "11th" XP client has expired and it cannot connect. In figuring out what had happened we came across some questions in the TS Licensing Manager: 1) In TS Lic.Mrg. for the "Windows Server 2003 - Terminal Server Per Device" we see columns for "Issued To", "Issued On", Expires On, Quantity. There are (10) Client PCs listed, most with issue dates in Feb 2008. However, the "…

Printing to Network Printer via Network Printer on Local Machine
by Guest BSchmeltz- 2 replies
We have multiple servers that we use remote desktop to connect to and multiple users across the company that use these servers. We would like to be able to configure the local machines network printers to be available when connected to TS. We have the ability to connect to printers connected to LPT1 but the problem is with nearly 500 users they can't all have local printers. I know a lot of people recommend setting up the network printer on the server, however we want to avoid that because we have over 15 network printers in the home office and many others in field offices throughout the country and don't want to set them all up on the server under each…

Symantec SEP 11.0 - Things to note
by Guest Mark Stoker- 1 reply
We have just installed SEP 11 onto our Windows 2003 TS's - We started getting issues with long LOGOFF times (up to 120 secs). I started a up a support case with Symantec (which was solved within 1 day !) - Basically it was the Network Threat Protection part of SEP that was causing the problem - see the response below, hope this helps someone ! ====================================== Most likely the problem exists with having NTP installed on the servers not so much the clients so you shouldn't be required to remove that from the clients. NTP is the one feature that if you install, typically on servers, and do not FULLY configure it will cause connection …

Hi, Currently my users log on to Terminal Services they see the printers as i want. However, the printers have a session number after them. This obviously changes depending on the time of day / when they log on etc. Is there any way i can remove this feature as it is quite annoying and is causing problems for 3rd party applications. Thanks David

Is Terminal Server the solution to my problem? (Newbie)
by Guest jgaines911- 4 replies
I have 20 users that would like to remote desktop into 20 Windows 2003 EE servers. The problem is that many of these users want the ability to connect to many of these servers at the same time (over the 2 user terminal connection limit). Will installing terminal server services (and the license server) on one physical server enable these 20 servers to allow more than 2 terminal connections (assuming enough licenses were installed)? These users are a group of software developers that require direct access to each box. Thank you, John Gaines

I have a user who is located at a different site who uses Termnal Server 2003 to access 2 of our programs. When ever he logs into the TS he has to reset his default printer to his printer in his office. some days when he logs in, the printer default is set to a printer at my office and some days it would be set to a printer at his location but never his printer. Why would his default printer not keep when he sets it to his printer? his printer is an HP Laser Jet P2015 PCL. No one else is having this problem. -- Thank you,
