Multiple sessions for adminstrator
by Guest MartinBos- 4 replies

Hello, Our client is using Windows Server 2003 executed in a VMWare environment (single server). Administrator is connecting to Windows server 2003 application through a RDESKTOP connection. using Terminal Services. The Administrator initiates multiple sessions to use an application. Is it correct that no additional CALs are needed for this specific administrator purpose? The other 20 clients are connecting with TS Device CALs and Windows Device CALs. Hope my story is not too vague, Best Regards,

Terminal Services client serial port redirection server 2003
by Guest mackman- 3 replies

TS application cannot connect to redirected serially attached capture device. Works if logged on w/ adminstrator rights, doesnt work if logged on as a regular user (Remote Desktop User / Terminal Services User) I have several customers on Terminal Servers using RDP to access. Some clients have a serial port signature capture device. I check to have serial ports redirected in the RDP sessions. At one of my customers, the application running on the terminal server is able to connect to the capture device only if the logged in user has administrator rights. I have set all of my domain and domain controller local security policies, and various related folder…

Problems getting weight Scale towork over TS in UPS WorldShip
by Guest dazed_&_confused- 3 replies
Hi all, New to the forum, any help would really be appreciated. I am attempting to get a Toledo weight scale (PS-160 Flat Top) to work over terminal services. I have set the TS Client to connect to the server (Windows Server 2003) and connect serial ports. It appears to be mapping the COM port for the scale to COM2 (same as the client) but it does not actually do this. The local resource is blank and the status is blank. When I actually map the COM port using this command: NET USE COM2: \\tsclient\COM2 /persistent:yes the port maps successfully, but the status of the port is "Unavailable." Has anyone ever gotten this to work? If so, how? Also, please l…

Using GP to Lock Down 2003 SP1/2
by Guest tuned- 1 reply
We have a terminal server farm of roughly 5 servers. We have numerous GP's that are set up to apply to different groups and also to lock down the servers. All the policies seem to work fine on our 5 2003 EE servers, all without SP1 or SP2. We recently added 3 more servers that have SP1, but not all the policies are applying properly(java applets in trusted websites will not run with regular user credentials, only admin). If I remove the policy to lockdown the servers everything works fine. I've been trying to figure out why it won't work since we've never had any problems with the initial servers. Are there any settings that SP1 might update that wou…

what is ProcessLogonConfiguration
by Guest BFH- 1 reply

2003 server, running terminal services for XP Pro and Wyse thin clients. Terminal server clients are taking about five minutes to get past the "applying your personal settings" message, then behaving normally. I've checked DNS and found nothing wrong; performance monitoring on server show CPU, disk, and LAN interface acting normally. I enabled "verbose logon messages" per a KB article, and the culprit seems to be something called the "ProcessLogonConfigurations" policy- the five minute hangup in the login process is spent entirely on a screen saying "Applying ProcessLogonConfigurations policy." Searched KB for that, and googled the term, and got nothi…

Terminal Server Licensing with multiple TS machines...
by Guest Cary W. Shultz- 10 replies

Good morning! Here is a somewhat convoluted sitatuion (and I am sure that I will add to that with my 'verbage'). This is for a client that I manage but only recently came on-board as the "guy" for this client. Previous "guy" is no longer with the company and the documentation is, er, lacking....let's just keep it at that. Okay. Client has two locations: the main corporate office and the co-location space. There are three servers in each location. Corporate office: SBS2003, WIN2003 member server (running TS and Citrix - computer name is CITRIX2003 for purposes of this post) and another member server.... Co-Load: Windows 2003 Server (DC), Win…

Remote desktop spoof protection
by Guest Brian Stoop- 1 reply

SSH clients store a list of "key identities" of remote servers locally following connection. When a user connects again, the "key identity" is passed in, and if the key does not match with a key on the server, a warning message is displayed, its not the same server as last time. Can Remote Desktop offer a similar additional layer of protection ? thanks, Brian

Hi there, I've got NLB working as a front end to a ts gateway farm. It does failover magnificently. Connections get reconnected to another ts gateway server when the one with the highest priority drops off. I would also like the TS gateways to be load balanced, however, I am not experiencing this in my environment. Instead, all connections are sent to the server with the higher priority (the first one added to the cluster), unless that server is unavailable. Then they get sent to the second. I have noticed that all my connections to the gateway "look" like they are coming from the firewall IP address because they are all coming in fro…

Virtual Disks and performance..
by Guest Ian Watson- 0 replies

Quick question for you all.. I've set up a virtual terminal server cluster and I'm running all of my machines off differencing disks from a master "sysprepped" 2k8 vhd. Would this improve performance, or am I better having a load of individual ..vhds? My thinking is that any references to the master image should then be cached and so available to all the VM's. Am I right in thinking this? has anyone done any benchmarking on this issue? Cheers

by Guest peprom- 5 replies

Hello I am trying to figure out what is happening with the following problem. The objective I want to achieve is so easy, that I am really astonished that I can't do that simple thing. I want to connect to my Windows 2008 as an administrator via remote desktop without installing Terminal Services. I have read that this is possible. We have a solution based on windows 2003 and we haven't got any problem with connecting via remote desktop for administrative purposes. We want to migrate to windows 2008. I have fresh install of Windows 2008, I have checked "enable remote desktop", then I have choosen middle radiobutton ("less secure", I don't remember corre…

additional TSS
by Guest Patrik- 3 replies

Hi, I'm having some problems with my additional TSS...hope someone can help me. I need to split off (not really load balancing) "half" our organization from our existing TSS (2003 Standard R2), which houses an application to a new TSS( 2003 Standard R2) to relieve some of the burden from the Application/TS server. I have connected the new server to the domain and set it up as an TSS, and connected it to the licensing server. Now the trouble begins... If i connect a client through the "new" TSS with an excisting user account or as administrator(?!) the login is successfull but I have no rights. If I try for example accessing the application (mapped netwo…

I've been reading the link below and would like to clear up a few questions. http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services/browse_thread/thread/d7fafba713de4c3b?hl=en Is Adobe Standard 6.0's printer compatible with TS? I've just inherited a network and I really don't know. It's currently not working (a shocker) since Vera has described a ton of problems with printers anyway. Thanks for any input. Regards, Matt

How to test if RemoteDesktop still connected from c# Options
by Guest lawrence.barwick@googlemail.com- 15 replies

I am trying to write an app in c# that monitors open RDCs and warns me if a connection goes down. I tried looking for ip address in TaskManager list - which works, it can see difference between a RCD window that has been logged into and one that has been cancelled (by user). However, if connection is lost due to internet - I am not able to look for anything that tells me this. If anyone can think of a way that I can test whether a connection if still up an running - I would be greateful. Obviously, I can tell on the host side, but I want this to be from the side that initiated the RDC. Many thanks, Lawrence
