Can I block a group from accessing Remote Desktop Web Connection?
by Guest D Smith- 4 replies

We have a windows 2003 terminal server here in our office that is used by many internal employees. They login and do their work on the terminal server. Some time ago we had some IT consultants come in and setup Remote Desktop Web Connection on the same server as a remote access method. This way some employees can login to the web page and access the server from outside the office. Now I need to figure out a way to restrict the people that can access the Remote Desktop Web Connection without restricting people from access from regular remote desktop inside the office. After lots of searching I cannot find a solution to this problem. Any setting I fin…

roaming profile to remote desktop access
by Guest lenny- 4 replies

Hi, We have a server with a Terminal Services Server. Everybody in the office has a login name and password on this and they log onto any PC in the office and Remote Desktop onto their terminal services desktop. One PC was originally setup with a roaming profile and that one person now seems to be working far slower than all the other users (accessing data and loading databases etc.) I think this is due to a huge profile. I would like to convert this user to the same as everybody else (Just a basic Remote Desktop Logon without being a roaming profile) but don't really know what to do and am also afraid of loosing all her data and settings. Any suggesti…

I wanted to know if there is a way via Group Policy or another tool to set up a desktop "image" for all the users in my domain logging into our Terminal Server. I want a simple desktop with Four shortcuts to office programs. I also see that "Security Configuration Wizard" is a shortcut on every users desktop. How can I remove that? Thanks, SJMP

Sluggish older application after user changes domain password
by Guest Al Williams- 1 reply
Server 2003 Standard TS, SP2, all patches. We have a recurring problem where a particular (older) client/server LOB application (Visual Manufacturing) slows down and becomes pretty much unusable immediately after the TS user changes their domain password. The user can quit the application and logoff terminal server then login again and it continues to be slow, rebooting their PC also has no effect. Other TS applications (like Word/Excel/Outlook) run fine for the affected user, it's just this one older application. Other TS users have no issues with this same application. The only thing that fixes it is a reboot of the terminal server. This has ha…

XP SP3 to W2K3 cluster:Connection Authentication with ADM
by Guest Kristof Poppe- 1 reply

Hi there, We are busy upgrading our 400+ workstations to XP SP3. Currently we're on SP2 level and connection to an application TS cluster running W2K3 SP1. After upgrading the clients to XP SP3 (which use hardcoded username and password) we receive the warning: "Remote Desktop cannot verify the identity of the computer you want to connect to…” Is there a way to bypass this using eg. a group policy instead of adding “enablecredsspsupport:i:0” to each RDP-file ? Thanks for your input !

Hello, Can someone explain me the problem that happens us when using Terminal server. There is about 700 thin clients connected to 35 terminal servers, and almost all of them have the same problem, and it is slow screen motion. For example when they are writing in the MS Word or another program the text update is slow, they wrote whole word, but only first cahacters appears and so.... The same happens when they are srcolling the web pages (slow) The network is containing D-Link switches, HP Switches and SonicWall Switches. Any idea what to check first ? The networks seems to be ok after we checked the performance. Thank You Best regards

Device CALs and Sprint EVDO modems
by Guest Michael Chan- 4 replies
I occasionally access a (2003) server configured for device CALs via a Sprint EVDO USB modem attached to a macbook by way of ssh'ing to a firewall and setting up the RDP session via tunnel/port forward. Each time I connect via the modem, the License Server sees it as a different device , ip octet (dot) "area1". Sprint does not offer static IPs. I am looking for suggestions on how would I get the License Server to recognize (and re-recognize) this computer (or at least the modem) as one device? This is not an issue when tunneling while using the wi-fi adapter or over wire from the same notebook, in which case it recognizes it as the same computer regardless of…

Good Day, We've recently implemented office 2007 on our terminal server ( windows 2003 enterprise ). Users use outlook and connect to their email server using mapi. All of our users complain that outlook is extremly slow. All other apps are just fine. Users also get error out of memory or system resources and outlook hangs and crashes. We have 8GB of RAM, dual Xeon Processors, everything else in terminal is very fast. Any help would be appreciated.

We have several computers that are running the English(US) version of XP by default and we can remote into a 2003 Server and change to get the Japanese kanji to work. However we cannot remote into the same server from a Japanese localized XP Pro and get the Kanji to work. Is this an issue with the Japanese version of XP or is there something on the server that needs to be set? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks JTT

RDPSign - Signing RemoteApps
by Guest Kristin L. Griffin- 4 replies

I have signed an RDP file with RDPSign. However, this seems alot of trouble to go through just to sign an RDP fileI and I dont see what i have gained over using RemoteApp Manager to sign RDP files. I have to have a certificate in order to get the thumbprint anyway. Is this because remoteApp Manager will not recognize uniquely created certs with unique EKU? What are the circumstances when using RDPSign would be prudent? Thanks!

TS 2008 Web Access Customization
by Guest Jeremy Wadsworth- 2 replies

I've installed the TS Web Access through the TS Web Access role service. The default page works fine for a sample. However, I don't want to use the sample page that gets installed. I want to write my own code to launch the connection based on role based security in a current website. For example, using the old Terminal Services ActiveX client I am able to set the Terminal Server, the application to launch, as well as other properties using vbscript, and all dependent on the user that is logged into our website. I can't seem to find any documentation to code my own default page using the new 2008 web access.

Duplicate User Profiles
by Guest Derek Da Silva- 1 reply

Hi Everyone, I've recently built a Win2k3 server. When my users log on the system keeps creating a new user profile rather than using the existing user profile. For example 1) dasilvad logs onto the server and we see the "dasilvad" folder created under Docs and Settings 2) dasilvad logs off then logs back on and then we see another folder created called "dasilvad.DOMAINNAME" 3) dasilvad logs off then back on and then we see another folder created called "dasilvad.DOMAINNAME.000" How do I prevent the creation of multiple profiles for the same user? Please note I have all user profiles redirected to a share on my file server called \\fileserv…

Windows cannot locate a copy of your roaming profile blah, blah, blah
by Guest Absolutely- 4 replies

Getting the subject message all of a sudden when logging into TS. Does not happen when logging in as administrator, but still happens when logging in as a domain admin user. Nothing I know of changed when this started. Happens whether or not wireless routers are involved, so I've ruled out the known issue with the wireless security and just in case I've waited the stated 30 seconds before logging in with no change. Users can logon to the TS box locally without issue and can logon to the domain from their workstations without issue.

Trust requirements for TS License Server in a different domain
by Guest burgessb- 7 replies

I've located most of the setup information to have terminal servers in domain forest B to acquire their TS device CALs from a License Server in domain forest A (via registry settings, a hotfix, and forest trust). My question is what is the minimum forest trust required to enable this? I would rather not have the domain B's 'name' appear as an option on the logon screen on Domain A's PCs. one-way, incoming, forest trust for one side of the trust one-way, incoming, forest trust for both sides of the trust one-way, outgoing, forest trust for one side of the trust one-way, outgoing, forest trust for both sides of the trust two-way, forest trust for one sid…
