Opening RDC from inside a web site
by Guest CBenac- 1 reply

We are looking to implement an option where the user could access the TS (2003) by clicking a link in our web site, that would bring up the rdc window. Does anyone have an example on how to acomplish this? Note: The web server and the TS server are different machines and in different locations/networks. Being optimistic here, and assuming that it is possible, since the user authentication is done when logging in the web site, is it possible to pass the username/password combination into the remote desktop window? Better yet would be to bypass it completely and open a TS session right after the user clicked the link. TIA -- CBenac

How to disable the logon window timeout?
by Guest shamu- 2 replies
Hello When I 'm executing this command "mstsc /v:mytsserver" it opens a connection to my terminalserver on which the logon window appears. Now if I don't log in, the logon windows close automatically after 30 seconds. I would like to configure the terminalserver that he not close the connection. He should stay with the logon screen until I give my credentials to log in? I searched for "extending logon timeout" or equal but couldn't find such a setting. The server is a 2008 Std. Server. Thanks for your help. Regards Patrick

Proxy Settings
by Guest Conley- 1 reply

We are running a MS Terminal server 2003. Group policy is applied via AD. In the past we had IE proxy settings in Group policy that were applied to users. We've taken those settings out but about every few weeks our users can't get on the internet and the settings are back when you look at their IE internet options-connections tab. Why are these settings still being applied?

ComputerName Appended to UserName - Help
by Guest DCW- 1 reply
I'm having a problem configuring RDC to connect to a corporate TS. The problem is that the UserName has somehow gotten connect as a suffix to the computer name. So then, on the "Enter your credentials" screen, I see "Computername\username". This is then passed along to the TS logon screen where I have to wait for the logon screen to time out and edit the username field to simply be "username". Any help would be appreciated.

Desktop and IE Settings etc w/roaming profiles and TS
by Guest greg gallager- 2 replies

I haven't researched this so the answer may be simple. I have a client where we use roaming profiles. When a user logs on locally they have their individual preferences in IE eg. favorites, as well as their individual desktops. When one of the users logs on remotely they all share the same desktop and IE defaults. How do we (if possible) configure so the users still get their individual settings thru TS. -- greg gallager gallid assoc inc

Terminal Services on Domain Controller
by Guest Jeff Yana- 1 reply

Dear List- I have two DCs in a root forest domain in which I have lost the ability to connect using RDP. It all started when I mistakenly choose to modify User Access Rights in the Default Domain Controller GPO. I have reset the Default Domain Controller User Access Rights back to the defaults, but with no results. I have even tried removing the DCs from their default OU, refreshing their GPOs, but again with no results. As best as I can recall, the only setting that I originally modified was adding the default Administrator user to the Deny logon using TS setting. Any suggestions on how best to troubleshoot this issue? As a non-MS user, I find Windo…

TS Printer Redirection -Printers not removed from session
by Guest IFSTORY@gmail.com- 1 reply

We run Windows 2003 Terminal Server. We have 20 Clients at 3 different sites. We have 2 users at a remote office, that connect to Terminal Server properly, and their printers connect (We see the new session printers in both the "TS, and the local TS Session). When they logoff Terminal server, their session printers remain. So for instance, Larry logs in as Session #5, and a Sessiion #5 printer is set up. Larry logs off, and the Session #5 printer remains. Now at a later time (Next day, weekend, lunchtime), he logs back in to TS, and creates a Session #6. But the Session #5 printer remains. Larry cannot print to the Sesison #5 printer, although print jobs…

RemoteApp SSO XP SP3 to a TS Farm
by Guest Noah- 2 replies

I can't seem to get SSO to work correctly with XP SP3 when accessing a TS farm. I have enabled CredSSP/tspkg, and added the registry values to enable credential delegation. SSO works perfectly with connecting to an actual hostname, but fails to work when from XP SP3 when connecting to the farm name. I added a certificate with the farm name to each server in the farm, this allows Vista Sp1 to use SSO/Kerberos, but this still doesn't work in XP SP3. I have also tried to enable NTLM via the AllowDefCredentialsWhenNTLMOnly keys , but this also fails and the user is prompted to enter their credentials within the screen. Has anyone been able to get S…

shared printer setup
by Guest lenny- 1 reply

Hi, I have a network with a shared printer that I have setup on the terminal services server. Some of the users (We all login via Remote Desktop Sessions) have the printer automatically as their default printer but others don't. What do I need to do to enable this printer to be the default for everybody? And how can I also change it so that a couple of users in another office but on the same network can have a different default printer? Cheers Lenny

Login Scripts
by Guest Kevin- 1 reply
Hi, I am using login scripts with Group Policies. When someone logs into the network from a local desktop PC the scripts work fine - drives and printers are setup. When someone logs in through terminal services the following error message is received: Script: Gives me the script path Line: 71 Char: 4 Error: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect Code: 8007007B Source: (null) Here is the code from the login script: objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\w2kus-van1-1\DP-2310" - w2kus-van1-1 is the terminal server as well as the print server where the printer resides. Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin.

Remote Desktop Client for WinCE
by Guest hoop13- 1 reply
Hello, recently I've been developing an application running on a terminal server (Win2k3) with clients connecting to it from PDAs (Win CE). PDA I've received for testing arrived with already installed Remote Desktop Client. RDC's connection screen is too wide and I cannot access some important options (i.e. saving host computer password). I wonder if there's a specific RDC that would fit my screen resolution on a PDA (320x240, PDA is Symbol's MC9060G). Or maybe an option, or a registry tweak to change appearance of that application. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Remoted Desktop to Vista through a router
by Guest Don Glover- 1 reply

Background: I have a belkin wireless router that I use to connect my myriad of machines and get out to the internet. Previously I had an XP pro machine that I forwarded RDP and HTTP requests to. This worked fine. I recently replaced the machine with one running Vista Ultimate. I updated the IP address in the router. But requests do not seem to be making it through. I can TS in from the internal machines just fine. So at the moment I suspect a configuration issue on the Vista machine. Any suggestions?

How secure is this implementation?
by Guest Chris- 3 replies

I'm working on a project for a not-for-profit organization. I've been provided with a W2K3 server at a hosting company. I'm the administrator of the server. The server is in its own workgroup (i.e., non-AD) configuration. The server is not behind any type of hardware firewall; there is no VPN in place, either. I connect to the server from the Vista PC in my home office via RDP using an extremely long and complex password. I also connect to the server from my Windows XP SP2 laptop. I believe I have the newest version of the RDP client on both clients. I installed SP2 and all of the latest updates on the server. I have the Windows Firewall on the server…

Launch an app in another active TS session?
by Guest Rob Sibarelo- 0 replies

Hi Gang. Here's what I want to do: Log on to a TS server with an administrative level account, and use a command line to start an interactive app under another *already running* session. For example, to launch an instance of notepad for someone who cannot figure out how to click the Notepad.exe icon on their desktop, but without having to shadow or remote control their session. Ideally this would be a scriptable technique. It seems possible because there are tools that can kill such apps, but I don't know of a way to launch them. I don't think RunAs or PSrun using the credentials of the target session are what I am looking for - these tools seem to st…

Using signed rdp files without RemoteApp configuration entries withrdc 6.1
by Guest Vinz Focker- 0 replies

Hi, I think we've found a bug in the RDC 6.1 client but read on ... We've successfully deployed xp sp3 in our remote locations and switched to TS Gateway instead of the previous VPN solution. On our Windows 2008 Server we've only enabled the TS Gateway Terminal Services Role Service. And via that TS Gateway our users connect to their individual virtualized XP Professional Desktops. Now with the new RDC 6.1 (installed by xp sp3) we have the issue that a warning message appears when launching the .rdp files: "The publisher of this remote connection cannot be identified ..." Allright .. wtf .. well ... RDC 6.1 now supports signed rdp files which is basi…

TS server in SBS2003 environment newbie question
by Guest Andrew Kennard- 10 replies
Hi all I've been googling for info on TS and the general concensus seems to be that if you want one on a network that has a SBS2003 server then you should install it on a separate box as the built in one is only designed for administration My question is if I do this an connect the new TS box to the local network. How am I going to be able to access it from the outside world as it is not directly connected ie it has a private IP addres ? I assume I need to do something on the SBS server to get the packet to it but where should I start Thanks in advance for your help Andrew
