How to run a script when a user logs onto Term Srv
by Guest pdx- 8 replies
I have a Windows 2003 SP2 server running Terminal Services. I want to run a script whenever any user logs onto the Terminal Server. The script will send an email to an administrative mailbox and is a method for actively tracking logons. The "start a program upon connection" gp setting won't work since I don't want to alter the session, I just want the script to run send the email whenever a user logs on to the Terminal Server. Anyone know how I can set up the script to run as planned? Thanks

Configuration Help needed

I'm trying to setup a TS Server to my network. The server is attached to the domain but it is not part of the DNS. We are wanting the TS Server to be stand-alone if possible. We have added the client licenses and everything looks as if it ready to go. When I attempt to login in I get our default security screen (which is normal), a login screen, and I am able to login in. However, the screen then blanks out and stays blank for approximately 45 seconds and I get the following error: Logon Message The system cannot log you on due to the following error: The RPC server is unavailable. What am I missing? Thanks, Ted

Is port redirection for USB printer bi-directional?
by Guest Justin Huang- 2 replies
Hi, I'm developing a printer driver. The printer driver needs to read status from the printer in order to do some kind of control and status reporting. The status information is read by language monitor of the printer driver. My problem is that when I work in the remote desktop session and try to make a print to my local printer via the redirected port (TSxxx), the language monitor couldn't read status information from the port. Is this normal? The local printer is connected with USB. I'm using Windows XP professional as the remote desktop server. Any suggestions? Best Regards, Justin Huang.

Word Templates Folder Ignored?
by Guest Andrew Staley- 1 reply

I have a number of users running on Terminal Server (Server 2003R2 SP2) using Word 2003, all with large amounts of autotext. A couple of days ago we had a problem with the server and needed to reboot it. Since we rebooted the server we have started to get some weird problems with Word, all the users have lost the AutoText and macro's. Word is showing as pointing to the correct template folder stored on another server but it doesn't seem to be using the normal.dot file stored there. Yet if I point my own PC to that template folder I pick it up fine and I can use the Autotext. Anyone come accross this before and know a solution? Thanks, AStaley.

Remote desktop: Problems reconnecting to an existing session.
by Guest s7b@americancentury.com- 7 replies

Good afternoon, We are having a persistent issue with Remote Desktop at our company. I have only recently been asked to help with this issue, but it has been happening for around a year. The symptoms are as follows: A user locks their machine and later tries to remote in (either from home or from within the same building/network) They put in the computer name and click OK. They reach the target machine and are prompted from their password. They put in their password and click ok. The dialogue box goes gray, as though it is about to proceed to the Desktop. The box stays gray for 10 seconds or so, and the just goes away. No error message. I see no events cre…

RE: how to communicate to client
by Guest Stephen Medford- 1 reply

RE: how to communicate to client The virtual channel has to be created before you are able to open it on the server and write to it. I am not clear as to how you are creating it. You typically have to create the channel on the client side when the terminal server session is open.

IE 7 not working in 2003 TS sessions
by Guest Jamie- 1 reply

I have a 2003 server running TS. IE worked when it was v6 but recently i did the windows update to v7 and now only admins have the ability to use the internet. When a standard user opens the interent in their session it loads http://www.msn.com but the page is blank. and it you try typing in another page or opening another tab it say that the webpage can't be found. This happens for Intranet addresses also and we are just getting ready to roll out a project server and people will need to log in to the project webpage through TS. also i turned off the enhanced security for IE and it didn't help any. hopefully someone can tell me where the permission is to f…

Problem running program on Citrix server
by Guest Bev Kaufman- 1 reply

I am customizing an accounting system called Dynamics SL (formerly Solomon). I created a VB6 executable using the Solomon subset of VB commands, which is called from one of the Solomon screens. This works correctly on my Windows XP system. It fails on the client system. The one big difference between my system and the client system is this: Theirs is a Windows Server 2003 using Citrix Presentation Server. Here is the error that is returned: System Message 5004 Unable to execute C:\Accounting\Solomon\MC00200.EXE 4 1049080 BAK5018888. Windows CreateProcess() error 2. I tried turnning Notepad instead of my program (MC00200) and it returned almost …

IE7 tabs
by Guest Robert Brown- 1 reply

I have IE7 running on a terminal server. When I open a link from Outlook, IE7 will always open a new window. I have checked my tabbed browser settings and it is set to open "A new tab in the current window" when opening links for other programs. I can remedy the problem by Resetting Internet Explorer Settings on the Advanced tab of Internet Options. However, if I log off and log back in - I'm back to the same situation. This would lead me to believe it's group policy. However, there is nothing in group policy that appears to be driving this. I've only checked what I think applies to this situation. I'm going through all of the policies and verifyin…

Is there a way (GPO, security group membership, script at login) to enable a TS user access to change the properties of their local printer? 2 situations: - user needs to access additional devices to add 2nd tray to local printer - using WYSE terminal and need access to change printer driver from 'text only' (in this examply, i tried exporting a reg key, but the TS ID changes so the key doesn't work) administrator can access and change in above situations. thanks for any suggestions.

Remote print services
by Guest sgavriel- 0 replies

In our environment we have a terminal server farm with 5 application servers. The client workstations remotely connect to any of the 5 servers in order to use the remote application and also print through it. By installing the printers' drivers both at the client workstations and at the terminal servers, users are able to print through the remote application to their local printer (a session of their printers is being created on the terminal server). Now the requirement is to be able to pass a Comment of the printer when its session is created on the remote server. So far this was managed to be done only by the administrator if the comment is setup …

Sometimes I cannot access through RDP
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 1 reply

Sometimes I cannot access a Windows Server 2003 computer through RDP (through LAN). "This computer can't connect to the remote computer Try connecting again. If this problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator." I can ping the server, and access shares still. The only thing I can do is reboot the server using a command line program from Systernals, called PSSHUTDOWN. After rebooting, I can access the server as normal through RDP. What is causing this occasional problem?? Thanks ss.

Terminal Services Ports and Protocols in Windows 2008 Server
by Guest Sergio Ricci- 1 reply

Hi, I'm looking for confirmation on whether Terminal Services in Windows 2008 Server works over commonly used ports such as SSL port 443. Although I've done some searching (admittedly I could do more), I thought someone here might know and be able to give me a quick answer. Essentially there are some office sites that block RDP port 3389 which prevents our users from accessing our Win2K3 Terminal Server and due to policies currently in place (which incidentally don't apply to all branch and office locations) we can't get this changed. I have thought of changing the RDP port on both the Terminal Server but this would also mean that the users would hav…

seeing drives on terminal
by Guest Phil Rushton- 7 replies

We have 2 networks both are simple WORKGROUPS. Both run Windows Server 2003. Both run Terminal services via RDP on Thin Clients or old PC's running Windows 2k SR4. The two networks are not connected. I need to see the CD and USB drives on the terminals so I've ticked the Drives box on the RDP. On the first network I can see the drives from each of the terminals in a terminal session but on the second network I can't see any of them on any session. The only thing that is different (as far as I can see) is that the second network has the TS CAL's activated and the first network does not yet have them activated, because I'm still building it. What ha…
